Español: Esta aeronave de tipo convertible, además de su rotor de elevación de tres palas, tenía dos hélices de paso variable montadas en ambos lados en estabilizadores laterales, con empuje en direcciones opuestas para contrarrestar el par del rotor.

El motor, situado en la nariz, se enfrió con un ventilador ajustable de tres palas que consumía aproximadamente 14 hp, y en vuelo horizontal, la potencia restante se usó para impulsar las hélices exteriores, mientras que el rotor de elevación giró por auto rotación. La caja de cambios principal estaba en la parte delantera de la cabina.

Al Fl.185 , que tenía un tren de rodaje de tres ruedas, se le dieron solo unas pocas pruebas cerca del suelo, y luego se abandonó a favor del Fl.265 , que incorporaba el sistema de rotor engranado en el que Flettner había comenzado a trabajar.
