Population of Sheffield from 1700 through to 2011. From 1700 to 1843 the area covered is the Parish of Sheffield. After 1843 the area covered is that of the Borough of Sheffield, which gained City status in 1893. This was equivalent to the area of the former Parish of Sheffield until 1900. Arrowheads indicate the dates at which the boundaries of the city were significantly extended.
