Apse mosaic in the church of St. Cecilia in Trastevere, Rome, 9th century
Left to right:
- Pope Paschal I
- St. Agatha
- St. Paul
- Jesus Christ
- St. Peter
- Cecilia's husband Valerian
- St. Cecilia
Paschal holds a model of a church to indicate his sponsorship of the reconstruction of Santa Cecilia. His square halo denotes that he was alive when the mosaic was created. Agatha wears her crown of martyrdom; Valerian and Cecilia hold theirs on their left arms. Peter holds the keys that have become his principal attribute.
