English: Misawa Air Base Japan (Sept. 15, 2003) -- A Sailor lowers a tattered ensign into a barrel of fire during a flag burning ceremony. The ceremony, other than burial, is the only approved way to dispose of U.S. flags. The solemn event was conducted by Chief Petty Officer selectees at Misawa as part of their pre-advancement training. U.S. Navy photo by Photographer’s Mate 1st Class John Collins. (RELEASED)
