Also, it is a good idea to blend/blur the background over, so it isn't such a hard transition between a block of black and the text. Imagine how they do it in TV when showing smartphone vids and they need to put something to the left and right to make it fit the screen.
I know you have done quite a few of these manips and when I looked at a couple of them, I didn't see anyone mentioning this, so here are my 2 cents for this.

I uhhh... don't know how to do this. How do?
I use GIMP by the way

2. Create a new picture with 1px width and the height of your picture. Paste.
3. Export the file with the extension .pat into your gimp pattern folder (usually C:\Program Files\GIMP 2\share\gimp\2.0\patterns\Wood for example if you want to put it into the wood subcathegory)
4. Back to your picture, select the black area on the picture, then on the top right side, chose "pattern" and select your previously saved pattern (you can refresh the pattern window and it should appear).
5. Select Edit -> Fill with pattern.
6. Go to Filter -> Blur -> Gaussian Blur and then Blur the area so you have a glossy look to it. Chose anything between 8-15, depending on how much Blur you like.
7. Repeat the same with the other side if you have both sides with text.
This is all for GIMP. Most steps are identical for Photoshop, but you might look up how you create patterns and fill areas with patterns if you use another Image software.
