recent change in naming?

I see a lot of different names for the same argyrosomus fish in popular usage, and possibly different fish called by the same name (e.g. do a google search for kabeljou). Possibly it is because classifications changed in the 1990's?? I am no expert, but the http://fishsa.co.za/species/kob-argyrosomus-japonicus/ website says:

Dusky Kob or Kabeljous (argyrosomus japonicus)

The common dusky kob (Argyrosomus japonicus) is found along the entire coastline of South Africa, Kabeljou is a popular recreational angling fish as well as an important commercial species. Commonly known in South Africa as Kob, Giant kob, Kabeljou and Daga Salmon in KwaZulu Natal.

One of ten Scieanid species known to occur along our shorelines, the dusky kob was originally classified as Argyrosomus hololepidotus. However, in the 1990′s it became apparent at least 2 species were being confused with this fish; argyrosomus japonicus and argyrosomus thorpei (Squaretail Kob – a similar but smaller fish). Further research conducted at the J.L.B. Smith Institute of Ichthyology led to the current classification.
