Talk:Eye examination

I was looking for a page to coordinate eye defects, as there was no easy way to navigate these, and chose this one, which I have now nominated as a Root page. Associated pages should ensure that they put a link to this page at the top of their 'See also'list. --Lindosland 14:23, 12 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

?This article has specific eye examination recommendations - "should" used a lot. Is that appropriate for an Encyclopaedia or better kept to text book/teaching course. Perhaps re-phrase is better?

) eye care professional

I think this should be merged with vision test.--76.93.42.50 (talk) 02:55, 8 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Vision test now is about only the Snellen chart. That test is just one of many tests that could be performed during an eye examination. I suggest the articles be kept separate. Robert P. O'Shea (talk) 19:23, 2 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
These articles should probably be split again. Nowadays, eye examination are about more than just testing the vision. Many retinopathies are related to diabetes, blood pressure, etc. There are even research projects studying the shape of retinal vessels to predict disease risks without relation to vision (peripheral artery disease, cardiovascular risk, dementia, etc.) A vision test is only one type of eye examination NicGambarde (talk) 11:48, 2 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

artificial eyes

edit

A rare requirement, but necessary to have one fitted to get the best results asthetically.

Article lacks information on astigmatism

edit

It would be good if someone could add details of how astigmatism is tested for, and whether it is best to include correction for low value astigmatism in a prescription or not. --Lindosland (talk) 10:59, 29 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Following the 8 point eye exam template

edit

Hi everyone, I am editing this page and hoping to structure this topic using the 8-point eye exam template.

  1. visual acuity
  2. pupils
  3. extraocular motility and alignment
  4. intraocular pressure
  5. confrontational visual field
  6. external exam
  7. slit lamp exam
  8. fundoscopic exam

As part of the WikiMed Fall 2024 course, I will provide peer review that includes the author's proposed sandbox changes. I will only comment on sections that I have direct feedback on.
Overall Thoughts
The sections of the article are well organized and the content of the article is informative and remains neutral. I thought the photos used in the article were appropriate and informative. The article is well thought through, appropriately detailed, and educational. The language used throughout the article is reader-friendly even to a non-medical audience. There are several statements throughout the article that could use citations but the current four sources that are currently cited seem to be reliable sources. It is clear the user has put a lot of thought and effort into making this article better.
Lead
The lead section is clear and easy to read. It is concise but provides sufficient detail and sets up a clear structure for the article.
Medical History
Common Chief Complaints: There are a few topics mentioned where links to other articles may be useful. For example, some of the chief complaints (blurry vision, double vision, and floaters) all have their own wikipedia pages that could be linked.
Systematic Medical Conditions: I suggest that in the Systematic Medical Conditions section "Diabetic Mellitus" be edited to "Diabetes Mellitus". The name of this section could also be simplified to just 'Medical Conditions' if the author sees fit.
8-Point Eye Exam
The user has done a wonderful job contributing this detailed account of the eye exam to this article. The contributions to this section are well organized, concise and appropriately detailed. Some of the formatting in this section should be adjusted so that subheading title sizes are consistent.
Measuring Visual Acuity: The text "(need a lot of citations)" can be removed from the 'Measuring Visual Acuity' section and citations could be added as mentioned.
Overall, wonderful job done so far by @Wendyxieyang. A few more edits will leave this page looking great. Smhm97 (talk) 03:18, 18 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

Eye exam for children

edit

I added some information for eye exam for children that is different from the adult exam with the hope that this page could give parents some valuable information on what to expect at their first visit with an eye provider Wendyxieyang (talk) 15:27, 22 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

Future work

edit

Some future work that I did not get to do:

1) Adding citations

2) Explain some of the common conditions that are diagnosed during the eye exam, such as refractive errors (myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism, etc), glaucoma, cataract, age-related macular degeneration, and link to their individual sites

3) Introduce some of the equipment used in the eye exam

4) translate this page to Chinese (or any other languages that other contributors are proficient in) Wendyxieyang (talk) 15:30, 22 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
