Common saying?!
editI nearly choked when I read this sentence.
"thus the common saying "from soup to nuts", meaning from beginning to end"
I have never once heard this saying in my life, was this a common saying in the 15th century or something?!

I have. So has a web search. It's in a bunch of dictionaries. There are many uses in news sources. I think that, when describing a somewhat old-fashioned and obscure subject, it's usual to find old-fashioned expressions. I have heard--and used--the phrase as a common expression, amongst people of all ages and on tv. Possibly there is a cultural/regional aspect. ~~

Limited geography
editThe articles as-is is very much centered on the US/UK dining habits, starting with the title. Multicourse meals in many cultures are not limited to dinner. The full-course menus are also very French-US-centric. In the European domain, the arguably most prolific multicourse eaters are Italians (see Italian meal structure), but there is no mention here of primi or secondi (although antipasti had made it). - Thank you! Struck out the UK in my comment. It seems that at least the multicourse lunch needs to be covered somewhere. A discussion on single-course meals being an American habit can be found, for example, in The Oxford Encyclopedia of Food and Drink in America, Volume 1, p 350 (in the context of ethnic food traditions among immigrants being Americanized "to suit more organized workdays" in the US). Formal dining
editRedirects here. However, although formal dining implies a multicourse menu, it is a much bigger thing with its own etiquette rules, and does not necessarily even have to involve a dinner per se (formal luncheons used to be very popular). Викидим (talk) 08:33, 13 October 2023 (UTC)
