Moataz Al Junaidi → Mootaz El Jounaidi – official name per the AFC (http://www.the-afc.com/afc/documents/PdfFiles/afc-asian-cup-uae-2019-complete-squad-lists). Nehme1499 (talk) 16:37, 1 January 2019 (UTC)
- This is a contested technical request (permalink). -- /Alex/21 19:43, 1 January 2019 (UTC)
- DBigXray, @Alex 21: Just by doing a simple Google search, "Moataz Al Junaidi" gives 6260 results while "Mootaz El Jounaidi" 10400 results. Also, the only reference in the article (NFT.com) calls him "Mootaz Jounaidi". Given that there are many sources that call him Mootaz and Moataz, I think that the AFC's naming should be given the most importance. Nehme1499 (talk) 20:38, 1 January 2019 (UTC)
- Nehme1499, I didn't contest it, DBigXray contested it here. As a page mover, I then moved it to discussion due to its contested nature. Discuss it with them. -- /Alex/21 23:23, 1 January 2019 (UTC)
- @Alex 21: Ok I see, should I discuss it here? Nehme1499 (talk) 23:28, 1 January 2019 (UTC)
- Yes, with the above pinged editor. -- /Alex/21 23:30, 1 January 2019 (UTC)

- Nehme1499 thanks for the ping, yes, it appears that football clubs use the existing name [1][2][3], So I am not entirely sure if renaming will be a good Idea in this case. WP:GOOGLEHITS by itself is not a strong argument for a rename. I see that you have already explained your point, since the RM discussion thread has been started, more contributors will join this discussion and share their own opinion and the page will be renamed or left at this location based on the consensus of that discussion. regards. --DBigXrayᗙ 23:34, 1 January 2019 (UTC)

- Strong Oppose AFC are wrong. No such Arabic name as "Mootaz". Name is Moataz In ictu oculi (talk) 08:26, 2 January 2019 (UTC)
- @In ictu oculi: while this is true, there are many instances of "incorrect" latinized names, such as Medhi Benatia who's name should me Mehdi/Mahdi and not Medhi. Nehme1499 (talk) 12:57, 2 January 2019 (UTC)
- Not really. Sports sources In ictu oculi (talk) 20:43, 2 January 2019 (UTC)
- @In ictu oculi: sorry, I don't understand what you mean. If you are asking me to link to more sports sources these are some:

- No, I'm just saying that these kind of databases are notoriously unreliable. We need newspaper articles. But in this case the name is simply Moataz, this is a mistake. It's written Moataz. In ictu oculi (talk) 09:38, 3 January 2019 (UTC)
- @In ictu oculi: as we are talking about a not so notorious Lebanese football player, English newspaper articles about him are practically non-existent. As I said before, Medhi Benatia's name is also technically misspelled, but it's still written as "Medhi" and not "Mehdi" (which is how it's "written"). Nehme1499 (talk) 14:38, 3 January 2019 (UTC)
- The French player isn't misspelled, he's French, Medhi is what's on his birth certificate and website. This is a Lebanese player whose name is Moataz. Why would one (incorrectly) argue that a French player's name is misspelled in order to misspell a very minor Lebanese bio stub? In ictu oculi (talk) 16:34, 3 January 2019 (UTC)

Moataz Al Junaidi → Mootaz Jounaidi – I'm bringing this discussion back because I'm not convinced that Moataz is his common name in English. While yes, I agree that "Mootaz" isn't the correct spelling of the name, most reliable sources refer to him as such. See Fox Sports, The Roar, L'Orient-Le Jour, CNN ecc...). While there are some (10) articles that call him Moataz, more than 60 call him Mootaz. Nehme1499 (talk) 13:37, 17 March 2019 (UTC)
Edit: Mootaz Jounaidi is more common than Mootaz El Jounaidi. The former has 39 results on Google, while the latter has 8 results. Nehme1499 (talk) 14:07, 19 March 2019 (UTC)
