Spelling of the name
editAs far as I can tell there is absolutely no consistency of spelling of the name and all three versions "Rooiels", "Rooi-Els" and "Rooi Els" are in common use. By way of examples:
- The 2011 census calls it Rooiels.
- The 2001 census calls it Rooi Els.
- The original township plan says "Rooi Els" but subsequent annotations on the same sheet say "Rooi-Els" (contra to what the article currently claims).
- The official topo maps call it Rooiels.
- The latest annual report of the Overstrand Municipality uses all three versions in different places!
- The Dictionary of SA Place Names says Rooiels.
- Articles on News24 seem to have used all three versions variously.
- Google Maps calls it Rooi-Els.
- The road sign at the entrance to the village says Rooiels.
I am going to make some edits to the article to reflect this lack of consistency. htonl (talk) 18:28, 23 December 2023 (UTC)
- In fact, given that "Rooiels" is on the road sign and official maps, and in DSAPN, I think the article should be renamed to that. htonl (talk) 18:35, 23 December 2023 (UTC)
