Amazing job on citing Alumni

edit

Valid citations all-around. At this point, there is no need to delete the alumni list. As previously discussed, another page/section dedicated to alumni of the program/school of improv may be in order. There are many performers who studied at the Groundlings but never became official members of the main company. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Diswiz (talkcontribs) 05:57, 14 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

all living people who are uncited will be removed. non notable performers will be challenged. thanks for your help, if you can find citations. Saintstephen000 (talk)

Possible Deletion?

edit

There is no reason what-so-ever that this page be deleted. The Groundlings happens to be one of the most influential comedy troupes in the United States, responsible for a great many respected and notable alumni, including past and current cast members of SNL.

Also, who deleted the alumni section?

User:JBsupreme deleted all the alumni (rather than ask for sources for each of the individuals, as would be proper in such a case). I've replaced them, but he will in all probability delete them again, as he seems determined to reduce or eliminate this article. As soon as I have time, I will provide citations for as many of the alumni as possible. While the requirement for sourcing is at the heart of WP, there are hundreds of articles which, in an incidental manner, list alumni or members of the group under discussion without sourcing each and every one. I cannot suggest that they SHOULDN'T be sourced, of course, but I do suggest that in the case of the Groundlings article, an agenda other than mere adherence to WP guidelines seems to be in play. Please let it be known that prior to the deletion of the alumni section or any alumnus listed with proper citation, a discussion should occur. Simply deleting any content without explanation does not better wikipedia in any way. Let's keep this as positive an environment that it can be. I await your comment, User:JBsupreme -- Best. Diswiz

References

edit

I am working to find references for this and other comedy- and humor-related articles to address problems like the one mentioned above. Please help if you can. I would prefer this article's quality reflect its subject's importance. Please see WP:reliable sources for a description of the type of sources that can be used to improve this article. Thanks. --Future Fun Jumper (TIC) 09:19, 19 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

This posting in and of itself is actually a good example of the issue I've had with your edits. Despite references being made and additional links being provided, you are still insisting on a level of citation that is simply practically impossible to provide. I have said it before, but I will continue to post the concept of assuming good faith on the part of Wiki contributors and not be so quick to judge or act tempermental when someone does not aggree with your strict view of Wiki guidelines. Ultimately the Wiki is a collaborative environment, and the way you are going about these requests bellie the concept of cooperation and seem to be a tad "power hungry" more than anything else. In reference to the above notes, anyone reading this—especially those who edit comedy articles—might want to know the following and take this into consideration. Future Fun Jumper (TIC), was a 'sock puppet' of a rogue admin who took it upon themselves to slash/burn hundreds of comedy articles. For those unfamiliar with the term, a 'sock puppet' is someone who uses multiple accounts deceive others on and influence others Wikipedia. And in this case, Chris Griswold was an admin who used 'sock puppets' to taunt and bully dozens of comedy and improv related articles. —SpyMagician 00:40, 5 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Not alumni.

edit

There seems to be a problem with adding people to this list who are currently not or never were members of the Groundlings Main Company. Please keep in mind that the Goundlings maintains a comedy school. This school is comprised of multiple levels, and the student must complete or graduate one level to move into the next. The final tier of the school is being invited to join the Main Company, and only then is the person considered a Groundling. This entire process can take years, and is only attained by a small percentage of those who enter the school. Thus, many notable actors and comedians have attended the school and progressed up to certain levels, but very few have made it into the Main Company.

From my knowledge, the following people listed on the current page (as of this writing) are not or have never been in the Groundlings Main Company:

  • Adam Carolla
  • Conan O'Brien
  • Eve Plumb

GregCovey 03:58, 29 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Mr. Covey is right. Adam, Eve and Conan were never Groundling company members. Neither was Chris Jericho. We've had lots of guest stars through the years and that leads to some misconception, as well as bad intel from a lot of celebrities who confuse having taken classes here (usually in the infancy of their Hollywood careers) with being a "Groundling". We try not to take offense at it but in the interest of accuracy...
Thanks.- —22:04, 21 May 2007 The Groundlings

I think it best then to create a separate category for famous alumni who have attended Groundlings but have never reached the main company. Just because they haven't completed the program doesn't mean they haven't been heavily influenced by the Groundling's method. Of those recently mentioned, it seems clear that they were. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.170.214.210 (talk) 00:06, 12 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

That's probably wise. Right now the category is "Notable Alumni", not "Notable Main Company members". "Alumni" is defined as "graduates or former students." If someone has an agenda of making sure that only Main Company members get mentioned here, they would do well to retitle the category. Monkeyzpop (talk) 05:54, 25 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Why remove the alumni section? Personally I think removing the alumni section is idiotic to say the least, talk about reducing an organization's prestige; pathetic tiny wiki entry, might as well delete it, there's no useful info anymore. peace Aeonjoey (talk) 06:34, 13 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

I just came from checking out the new movie "Soul Men" and found a one "Affion Crockett" who after some reading found on his website that he names The Groundlings. If this is so, and I notice some of you have great knowledge in this area, then this gentleman needs to be put on that list ASAP. He is a tremendous new actor and has a great future in tv and motion pictures. That is my opinion! Thank-You!!! The Hollywood Canteen

edit

"During that time the Groundlings performed their revues at a handful of theaters all over town, including The Improv, The Matrix, The Hollywood Canteen, and the White House"

The Hollywood Canteen theater venue is not Hollywood Canteen which closed 22 November 1945. There is a green building on a north/south street off of a east/west boulevard with that marquee.
