Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Dock Response
edit- Nelg,
I rarely use Wikipedia and there is no system I am aware of to alert me to messages left for me, so I just read your "talk" to me from 2015 on the subject of the definition of "Dock". Reading the current definition, I see that it mainly says what I said back then, so it must have been resolved to accuracy/my satisfaction without my participation. Good. While I appreciate your information about the policies of Wikipedia and understand the need for a set of rules which must be followed, your tone was, in my opinion, overly severe. Whether intentional or not, it came across as either a reprimand or a threat from you. Neither would have been warranted in this case.
This was my first attempt at involvement with Wikipedia and will probably be my last. I have extensive experience in matters nautical and sought only to rectify what was to me a glaring error. I certainly was not being confrontational with any other editors. Using sources that agree with ones point of view and yet are wholly inaccurate as to content would not in my opinion constitute reality or proper evidence. The person that originally submitted the definition for "Dock" seems to have done just that. I am not aware that he/they had much first hand experience in the field, so I guess it was excusable and understandable.
I am an Marine Educator by schooling and trade and only sought to educate on a topic near to me and one I am well versed in. I was frankly surprised at such an error in Wikipedia. I wasn't aware of just how much opinion was to be found in its pages.
I doubt I will submit further edits and will use Wikipedia even more sparingly than I did before. I'm not sure I trust it to be accurate.
Wishing you well and all the best.
