Proposed deletion of Car shipping

I have removed the prod tag on Car shipping, which you endorsed, as the article was discussed at AfD in 2008 and per policy is ineligible for prod. I did this only to comply with policy; it is not an endorsement for keeping the article. Feel free to open another AfD if you still wish to pursue deletion. —KuyaBriBriTalk 15:41, 12 October 2011 (UTC)

IP Vandal on Van Halen, GnR, etc.

I've just place a range block on 189.79.208.0/20 for 48 hours. This covers both of the vandal's IP addresses used so far, and only covers 4096 potential addresses. If the IP pops up on a different address within these 48 hours, let me know, and we may need to see if a wider range is feasible. If the vandalism resumes after the 48 hours, you can let me know that, too, and I can reinstate the block; if it gets longer, though, I'll have to ask a CU for potential collateral damage. Hi. We work on a principal of verifiability and I would like to ask that when you update a fact or figure that you also do the same for the reference that supports the new figure. So when we add new material we do so with a reference, or in this case, a new reference. Thanks. Dawnseeker2000 02:21, 24 October 2011 (UTC)

Oakland Police Department

I'm confused, why did you remove the entire "Controversy" section from the Oakland Police Department wikipedia link and cite only that YouTube was not a credible source. When the section contained much more than YouTube?

In late October of 2011 a large public outcry began over an attack by the Oakland police force on unarmed Occupy Oakland Protestors. The police shot rubber bullets and beanbag rounds, attacking the civilians with tear gas[1] in a series of disgraceful and brutal attacks. During the confrontation, a uniformed officer was recorded on video as they tossed a flash-like grenade onto the body of a citizen, just as others came to help.[2] The police, donning full riot gear shot tear gas as many as 5 times throughout the evening. Women, children, the disabled, and veterans were among the injured victims. Percussion grenades, flashbangs, and bullets were reported and the internet quickly filled with anger, photos, and disturbing videos. Most reporting was done by victims using social media to spread the word, as the mainstream media and local ABC and CBS affiliates shut off their cameras and refused to report on the violation of civil rights.

The section, if it stays, needs a complete rewrite. The KTVU source that was there was broken and was support for a statement that said "a large public outcry began over an attack by the Oakland police force". But when I searched KTVU for a story I found that it was reported as the other way around. I found a statement on an article about the Occupy proestors that said Police also report being attacked with rocks. So what I'm seeing on the news cite and on the article aren't matching up. That's why it was removed. Dawnseeker2000 19:24, 26 October 2011 (UTC)

Bette Davis Eyes

Why have you removed my addition from the page? I have added the following line: The italian group Bacon Popper used the bassline of "Bette Davis Eyes" in their song "Rejoice In Love" in 1998. Check this out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FdXwpmCgl-A&ob=av2e The sample used by the group is clearly taken from "Bette Davis Eyes". — Preceding unsigned comment added by 93.111.103.211 (talk) 23:52, 30 October 2011 (UTC)

Genesis song "We Can't Dance"

Regarding the music video, a change was made from the current different lighting suggests the filming was at a different time to "digitally imposed himself in the video", since it is BLATANTLY OBVIOUS it was done that way. Why would that be changed back? It's insulting to use "suggests" when it's obviously done that way. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.81.125.135 (talk) 14:43, 6 November 2011 (UTC)

Hello, regarding the edit made: The edit you made hosed the article. It was left in a broken state. Also, YouTube videos are generally poor choices for references. That YouTube channel "ALTVVideos" may or may not belong to "Weird Al" Yankovic. However, a quick look at the channel shows that at least one of the videos that was uploaded was indeed blocked by YouTube on a copyright claim made by Warner Music Group. We cannot link to copyrighted works. These are the two reasons why I reverted your edit. Dawnseeker2000 14:57, 6 November 2011 (UTC)

Hey

Long time no speak, hope you are doing good :) I have come to you for an request. Since I was unblocked in September I was told that I cannot upload images anymore, I'm pretty sure the admin also meant by not uploading anything on Wikipedia. So I was wondering if you can, and you don't have to, upload a 30sec sample of "No Debes Jugar", "La Llamada" and "Tú Robaste Mi Corazón" to be used in the Selena Live! album that I'm working on? If you need any help on anything (besides uploading lolz) I'm willing to help. Best, Jonayo! Selena 4 ever 22:25, 6 November 2011 (UTC)

Hey are you wiling to do this? If not I'll just ask the guy who unblocked me if there are exceptions for uploading music files. Best, Jonayo! Selena 4 ever 20:52, 14 November 2011 (UTC)

reverted entry on disambiguation page Airlock

--Karlomagnus (talk) 12:08, 8 December 2011 (UTC) Hi, I stumbled over this disambiguation page while editing an article about application firewalls. While I do respect WIKIPEDIA guidelines, I believe all authors should respect the need for information. More information abou a given topic including more references is better than no information at all, right? My intention was to fill in the holes. I have added: "Airlock, a Web Application Firewall developed and marketed by Switzerland's Ergon Informatik AG" quote from Reverse proxy and have included an external link cause I could not find an article about this product inside WIKI. I was not aware of the guideline you mentioned forbidding external references in disambiguation pages, sorry for that. Nevertheless I would have very much aprreciated if you double check with me or using the external reference provided why this entry has been made rather than reverting it because of a guideline. The right solution would be to write an article about it. or use the WIKI reference above. So I would suggest to change

1932 Jalisco earthquake

Hi Dawnseeker2000, I was thinking of nominating this at WP:DYK. I will need to do it this evening (UK time). My suggested hook is the (fairly obvious) ... that the 1932 Jalisco earthquake was the first of three earthquakes of magnitude 7 or greater to strike western Mexico in June that year?

Other suggestions are welcome. For DYK we will just need to make sure that every paragraph has a least one inline citation - it's nearly there already. Cheers, Mikenorton (talk) 08:00, 22 December 2011 (UTC)

Great, good hook. That'd be cool to see it work out. I have added the remaining sources into the article inline style and every paragraph is covered. Thanks, Dawnseeker2000 20:27, 22 December 2011 (UTC)
Actually I see that we need a citation for the three 7+ earthquakes in June, but I don't think that will be a problem to find. It wasn't, and it's now added. Mikenorton (talk) 22:35, 22 December 2011 (UTC)
Nominated - see Template:Did you know nominations/1932 Jalisco earthquake. I will need to do at least one review of another nomination, but I should manage that tomorrow hopefully. Mikenorton (talk) 23:12, 22 December 2011 (UTC)

Earthquake articles

Hi Dawnseeker2000, if you feel like working on any more of the missing Mexico earthquake articles I would be very happy to collaborate. Mikenorton (talk) 10:16, 27 December 2011 (UTC)

Yes, that would be great. Learning a few things about Mexico in general (Colima (volcano), Trans-Mexican Volcanic Belt) doing this and am interested in doing more. Dawnseeker2000 20:46, 27 December 2011 (UTC)
I suppose that there should be companion articles on the other two in the sequence, the 1932 Colima earthquake and the 1932 Manzanillo earthquake for which many of the same sources are probably helpful, then there's the 1892 Imperial Valley earthquake (see [1]) and the 1931 Oaxaca earthquake (see [2]). Mikenorton (talk) 22:45, 27 December 2011 (UTC)

Lets start the 1931 Oaxaca earthquake article. I've located a few new sources for it this evening. Thanks for doing the DYK nomination on the Jalisco earthquake. I see it got over 500 hits, but the counter wasn't functioning for a few days prior, so was thinking we'd miss the count. Also, I've been scouring commons for images of the lay of the land or something that might add some color to the article(s) but have come up short. A nice close up diagram of the plate boundaries off the coast of Manzanillo would be sweet too. Dawnseeker2000 04:42, 28 December 2011 (UTC)

I may go ahead and set to work on the 1892 Imperial Valley earthquake anyway at some point but I would be happy to help out with the 1931 Oaxaca event as well. I'll look at producing a tectonic map for the plate boundaries off Manzanillo. Mikenorton (talk) 13:22, 28 December 2011 (UTC)

Alright, got a start on the Oaxaca article. Just using my LA Times sources for the local accounts of damage. Oh, and I didn't realize the location of the older earthquake up north near Mexicali. That will be an interesting one to work on. Aren't there differing views on where the San Andreas "ends"? I remember seeing something about the Salton Sea area being an end point of sorts. I shouldn't get too ahead of myself, I have plenty to learn. Anyway, I'm looking forward to that. Dawnseeker2000 05:14, 29 December 2011 (UTC)

Wireless site survey

You wrote: "The links are commercial and do not comply with WP:EL. In light of that, please stop adding them back into the article."

With all due respect, may I ask you to read WP:EL again? Specifically, this part:

"Wikipedia uses the same standards for evaluating links to websites owned by for-profit and (real or purported) non-profit organizations. Links to potentially revenue-generating web pages are not prohibited, even though the website owner might earn money through advertisements, sales, or (in the case of non-profit organizations) donations. Choose which pages to link based on the immediate benefit to Wikipedia readers that click on the link, not based on the organization's tax status or your guess at whether the website's owner might earn money from the link."

I believe that the immediate benefit to Wikipedia readers is to be able to quickly find the leading "big three" wireless site survey tools, namely AirMagnet, Ekahau Site Survey, and TamoGraph Site Survey. So rather than removing the links to Ekahau and TamoGraph, I believe we should restore them and add a link to AirMagnet. The fact that all of the above mentioned software tools are commercial is irrelevant as per the policies outlined in WP:EL.

I think we're going to disagree on this. Links to popular software isn't what the article needs. This is an encyclopedia and first and foremost comes reliable sources. That is what should be a priority in the article. The one source that's in it should come out as well as it has a stake in being there. It too is a commercial site offering consulting services. The article should be as neutral as possible and that's why I have removed the links. Dawnseeker2000 23:05, 28 December 2011 (UTC)

1940 El Centro earthquake

Hi again, this article is ready to go to DYK I think. Would you mind doing the nomination on this occasion, as I will be going on a trip in just over a week and will have little or no access to the internet for a while? There are several potential hooks, about: the restoration of the irrigation system in less than four days, the use of the strong motion seismograph record in building design, strongest recorded earthquake for the Imperial Valley etc. Mikenorton (talk) 12:48, 21 January 2012 (UTC)

And now that I've created the 1979 Imperial Valley earthquake we could go for a double nomination, with a hook relating to the rupture patterns of the two quakes (but I need to check again with Kerry Sieh's paper to make sure that I've understood it properly.Mikenorton (talk) 15:47, 21 January 2012 (UTC)

Yeah, I can do this one. Let me know what you find with the relationship. I have yet to add to the damage section; will do that today & tomorrow. Dawnseeker2000 16:28, 21 January 2012 (UTC)
My suggested hook is as follows
... that comparison between the displacement patterns along the Imperial Fault during the 1940 El Centro and 1979 Imperial Valley earthquakes show that the fault slips in at least two discrete 'patches'?
This is I think well-supported by the Sieh reference and just creeps in under the hook length rule (note that you get extra characters if you nominate more than one article, so 203 should be fine). If you could nominate this by the end of today (or tomorrow at the latest - we get an extra day because of the blackout) that would be really good. Cheers, Mikenorton (talk) 15:36, 22 January 2012 (UTC)

OK, I've done the nomination. I have more to add to the 1940 article. The first 5 to six minutes after the main shock during that event were extraordinary. Dawnseeker2000 18:46, 22 January 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for doing that. By the way, you didn't have to do a review this time - that's only required after you've got five DYK credits, but nothing to stop you either :). There's more to add to both earthquakes - I'll try to do a bit more over the next few days. I think that the extraordinary nature of that earthquake had a lot to do with the instrumentation available - many earthquakes consist of sub-events involving the rupture of a series of fault patches, but they are rarely that well recorded. Mikenorton (talk) 19:47, 22 January 2012 (UTC)
The 1940 quake is looking better still thanks to your efforts. I will have only intermittent internet access for the next week or so, so I hope that no serious issues turn up regarding the nomination - although I'm sure that you're more than capable of sorting them out. Mikenorton (talk) 18:00, 29 January 2012 (UTC)

I'll keep an eye out for anything that comes up, but I can only imagine it would related to the timing of the expansion. Otherwise the articles are great. I wasn't aware of the five day period until I looked at the nomination process. Anyway, there's plenty more opportunities for new & expanding articles and I will tag you next time I see something that looks interesting. Dawnseeker2000 01:59, 30 January 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for that and your continued additions to both articles, which are looking really good. I'm now back from my Vietnam trip, so will be back to editing normally (jetlag permitting). Mikenorton (talk) 16:12, 18 February 2012 (UTC)

Hey, welcome back :)
Working on these earthquake articles has been some of the most satisfying work I've done on WP. The 1940 article is simmering down, but I still have unused sources for the 1979 article, so there will still be additions coming in there, probably in the Earthquake section (surface faulting and sand boil details). Get some rest and I'll be available for more expansions, Dawnseeker2000 16:44, 18 February 2012 (UTC)

Thx

... for this! Cheers - DVdm (talk) 22:44, 22 January 2012 (UTC)

Earthquake DYK nominations

There seems to be a bit of a backlog in reviewing DYK nominations. I have reviewed yours here. The articles are fine and I have approved them for DYK but I have left a couple of comments that you might like to consider. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 10:50, 1 February 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for the close look at the nomination. I have made changes in response to both items needing attention. Dawnseeker2000 04:02, 2 February 2012 (UTC)

A cup of coffee for you!

Thank you for reverting vandalism on my userpage on 4 February. Joydeep (talk) 18:02, 6 February 2012 (UTC)

A favour?

Hey there,

I have noticed your OGG sample features the GA-class song article for Australian singer Jessica Mauboy's "Running Back".

I am currently re-constructing a fellow Australian singer, Gabriella Cilmi's song article for "Sweet About Me". I am aiming to reconstruct it to GA-class status and I was wondering if you could help me out with an OGG music sample for the song's article. I would highly appreciate it! Please let me know! Thanks :) - User:Marky01 (talk) 23:27, 9 February 2012 (UTC)

Sure, wouldn't have minded, but someone already beat me to it. Take it easy, Dawnseeker2000 02:50, 10 February 2012 (UTC)

Emeli Sande

Hi Dawnseeker, it's me again.

If you don't remember, we worked together on getting clips of The Saturdays music. I was just wondering, if I email you some more music, you would do it again but for Emeli Sande's music? Thanks --ƒɾɛɛᴅᴑᴍºᵀᴬᴸᴷ 10:11, 18 February 2012 (UTC)

1979 Imperial Valley earthquake

Hi Mike,

In my most recent edit there I've added a new source, Ground Failure Along the New River Caused by the October 1979 Imperial Valley Earthquake Sequence, but am pausing before actually write anything based on it. The reason is because the report seems to minimize the effects the initial event and the largest aftershock (what they refer to as the October 16 Brawley earthquake) had on the land in that area saying "No evidence of tectonic surface faulting could be found." They acknowledge the liquefaction and sand boils, but refer to the surface cracks as "ground failures", but clarify that there's no direct evidence that they were caused by surface faulting. I can add from this new source like I've done with the others, but wanted your interpretation first, since there is already discussion (sourced to Surface faulting in the central Imperial Valley) about surface faulting in the article already. Dawnseeker2000 21:00, 19 February 2012 (UTC)

Still trying to stay awake long enough to go to bed at a normal time (7 hours time difference takes a few days to get over I find). I will take a look at this, but not today - give me a nudge if I don't respond soon. Mikenorton (talk) 22:38, 19 February 2012 (UTC)
I can sort it out. It did seem a little contradictory at first, but the folks that looked in and did the report on the area near the New river just seem to not want to label the "ground failures" as surface faulting. Paraphrasing these reports is what I've been doing my best to do and so will just keep on keeping on. Talk later, Dawnseeker2000 03:16, 22 February 2012 (UTC)
Finally got around to looking at these. The New River zone does not follow a known fault zone, whereas the recognised surface faulting was along the Imperial and Brawley faults. The ground failures really don't look like surface faulting. Mikenorton (talk) 22:00, 22 February 2012 (UTC)

OK, will once again get some new material added there this weekend. Thanks! Dawnseeker2000 04:25, 24 February 2012 (UTC)

Fake Uzbek Wikipedia

Hi! The Uzbek wiki has been blocked by the repressive Uzbek government in Uzbekistan. I recently wrote an article (in Uzbek) in RFE/RL about it. Today I noticed that there's a fake Uzbek Wikipedia which is obviously supported by authorities and doesn't have any material critical of the despotic government of Islam Karimov. Instead, it's full of biased material. On its main page it is written that this fake Wiki is a "mirror" of the Uzbek Wikipedia. Do you think the Wiki community should somehow be told about this fake Wiki? Nataev (talk) 22:20, 20 February 2012 (UTC)

Thank you! Hopefully people know the difference between the genuine Uzbek Wikipedia and the biased state-owned Wiki. I have started an article in the English Wiki about the Uzbek Wiki. I plan to expand and improve it. Nataev (talk) 14:10, 22 February 2012 (UTC)

Nomination for Speedy deletion

A user proposed my recent article on Shuhrat Abbosov for speedy deletion. I wonder if he actually read the entry. The article should not be speedily deleted for lack of asserted importance because Abbosov has received many honorary titles and awards, including a People's Artist of the Uzbek SSR, a People's Artist of the USSR, and an Order of the Red Banner of Labour. He is considered to one of the most influential Uzbek filmmakers and is celebrated as one of the founders of the Uzbek film making industry. I've added many reliable sources to the article. Can you visit the page's talk page directly to tell us what you think about the issue? Nataev (talk) 09:28, 26 February 2012 (UTC)

DYK nomination of 1663 Charlevoix earthquake

Hello! Your submission of 1663 Charlevoix earthquake at the Did You Know nominations page has been reviewed, and there still are some issues that may need to be clarified. Please review the comment(s) underneath your nomination's entry and respond there as soon as possible. Thank you for contributing to Did You Know! Ishtar456 (talk) 20:34, 3 March 2012 (UTC)

I've already replied there - I don't think that there's a problem with the expansion. Mikenorton (talk) 20:45, 3 March 2012 (UTC)
I have yielded the review to someone else. This is the second time that my history has given me different dates than others. I do not even see an edit on the 27th. It looks (to me) like the expansion began on the 25th. It is probably 5X from the 26th, but there is nothing at all on the 27th. So I will leave it alone. Take Care, --Ishtar456 (talk) 21:09, 3 March 2012 (UTC)

Templating fellow editors

Now where is the template for User:McSly?? He is the one avoiding useful edit comments. --91.10.23.179 (talk) 03:25, 4 March 2012 (UTC)

You explained why you templated me, now what is your explanation why you haven't templated (or otherwise warned) McSly for participation in an edit war? --91.10.23.179 (talk) 03:33, 4 March 2012 (UTC)
