Saturday Night Wrist

edit

Hey FMSky, just wanted to let you know that the user was correct in removing the genres and was not a vandal. Ultimate Guitar is inadmissible as a source unless the genre was described in the context of a staff review, as opposed to a sidebar (this was the case) or user review. I know you meant well, and I watch all of Deftones' album pages, so I wanted to kindly clear that up. dannymusiceditor oops 03:00, 30 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

DABRL

edit

Hi, you made this revert citing MOS:DABRL. However, MOS:DABRL specifically states: "Red links should not be the only link in a given entry; link also to an existing article, so that a reader (as opposed to a contributing editor) will have somewhere to navigate to for additional information. The example given in DABRL also goes on to state: "If "flibbygibby" is not mentioned in the noodle article, or there is no linked article at all, as in the toy example, it is not a valid entry". In this case, the red link (Settle the Score (band)) is the only link in the entry, and there is no link to an existing article (blue link), contrary to MOS:DABRL. WP:Reliable sources/Noticeboard#Sputnikmusic.com

edit

Hello, I see you reverted my edits at We Are Chaos again due to this source's presence under the reliable sources listed at Wikipedia:WikiProject Albums/Sources. I wanted to let you know that I have just started a discussion here questioning whether or not Sputnikmusic is a reliable source, if you would like to make any arguments for or against its use going forward. JeffSpaceman (talk) 20:47, 11 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

It literally says it is reliable https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_Albums/Sources --FMSky (talk) 21:52, 11 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
I know that, and I am questioning its validity at the link I have provided. It is a self-published source that hosts a lot of user-generated content, so I don't see why it holds this status, which is exactly why I have opened up discussion here. If you have anything to argue for its continued inclusion, feel free to comment there. JeffSpaceman (talk) 21:56, 11 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hi, I saw that you reverted my edit in the Danny Masterson Request For Comments, but you didn't say why you reverted it: can you please explain? Thanks, Chillowack (talk) 17:12, 14 September 2023 (UTC) This one? https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?diff=1175316857&oldid=1175292933&title=Talk:Danny_MastersonReply

Cause that looked like vandalism tbh, why did you remove all this stuff lol --FMSky (talk) 17:50, 14 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
Sorry: you're saying my comment that I would omit the word "rapist" from the lede looked like "vandalism"? Remove what stuff? I didn't "remove" anything, I just added my vote. Why did you delete it?Chillowack (talk) 18:22, 14 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

Candace Owens

edit

Hello FMSky. I moved the info on Candace Owens blog back up to the "Degree180 and anti-conservative blog" section (she did not write the article about Trump's penis which seems to be implied in the language used) and added some language to the "Donald Trump" section noting her shift in attitude. I also restored the copy of the actual article which is useful. Per the archives, there is not record she wrote any articles about Trump.Patapsco913 (talk) 11:42, 16 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

edit

Saw your re-addition of the "vents" blog/"magazine"/whatever again. Prior discussions are here: 2016, February of this year and this month. Each evaluation was clearly that it is not reliable. This site is almost exclusively paid placement and spam, there are hundreds of ads on the usual sites for blackhat placement, and there is absolutely no indication of competent editorial control or disclosure of advertorials. Utter spam like this is common; I've removed the source hundreds of times. If you're seeing something that was missed by everyone else, let me know and we can start another conversation at WP:RSN with the alternate view. Sam Kuru (talk) 01:21, 17 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

RFC sig

edit

Hi FMSky. I think you need to add a signature to the RFC proposal at Talk:What Is a Woman?. The bot that copies it over to the central listings tries to grab everything before the first sig, and right now it's including your !vote. I'd recommend putting one right after "(or similar wording)". Firefangledfeathers (talk / contribs) 12:50, 17 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

MrBeast AI upscale

edit

Replacement here wasn't a question of whether I'm a fan of AI upscaling, there was a small but strongly expressed consensus to add AI upscaling software should generally not be used to increase the resolution or quality of an old or low-resolution image. Original historical images should always be used in place of AI upscaled versions. If an AI-upscaled image is used in an article, this fact should be noted in its caption. to MOS:IMAGES last month.

That might benefit from another iteration or exception or a wider discussion, but that's what the MOS is saying right now. Belbury (talk) 17:19, 19 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hi, how do you mean it sounded better before? It said approval rating of 91% before. Nowhere on the rotten tomatoes site is it given approval rating. It is called tomatometer, which is the percentage of critics who have given a positive review for the film. Also, the number of critics has risen now, check the site. Plus I have added the percentage of critics who have given the film a positive review on metacritic site, which was missing before. Cinephile4ever 14:02, 27 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

Your Understanding of WP:FOX

Watch carefully for reference removal

edit

Respect your efforts to keep Wikipedia's infoboxes pristine, but in this case, it broke a reference elsewhere on the page. Just have a look to see if there's any cite errors in the preview before you cut a Cite error: A <ref> tag is missing the closing </ref> (see the help page). is fairly lengthy, and I read it again, but found no mention of a year in 1970's. To find the birth year, is it a matter of doing some math among the varous timelines reported on? Or was there another reason the birth year should be in there? Or has my editing there just been confusing. Thanks. signed, Willondon (talk) 15:04, 29 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

The article says he was 40 as of 10 December 2018, so I used the template "age as of date" in the infobox FMSky (talk) 17:01, 29 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

Isis

edit

Objection. I cited multiple sources to put progressive metal there. That was me who put them there in the first place. How is that insufficient? I understand we're not to put everything in there at risk of overcrowding, but there was extra support offered. I'd like a more thorough discussion than "only most common genres for the infobox", because, well, I'd argue that it is. dannymusiceditor oops 04:33, 31 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

Alright, I just feel they are almost exclusively described as post-metal, and that progressive metal and the others cited (metalcore, wtf?) are needlessly missleading, especially since they're just thrown in without any context --FMSky (talk) 04:35, 31 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
Though it matters not in the end, you wouldn't agree that Isis' sound owes a debt to Tool, groundbreakers in progressive rock and progressive metal? In any case, I'm glad we could come to a resolution. dannymusiceditor oops 04:42, 31 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

WP:FALSETITLE

edit

Hello, I see you have reverted my edits to Dirt (Alice in Chains album). Would it be alright if the definite articles get added back in without the commas? I think a lot of people would say, "Do you know the singer Layne Staley?," not, "Do you know singer Layne Staley?" To me, it's ordinary English. But what's your issue with this wording? Please let me know, I would like to hear your thoughts before I make any further edits of that sort to the page. JeffSpaceman (talk) 22:14, 29 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

Tbh, I think it sounds incredibly stupid and unnatural, and I dont think someone would talk like this in real life: "He admired the singer Layne Staley's lyrics and voice, and the lead guitarist Jerry Cantrell's guitar riffs." -- as opposed to "He admired vocalist Layne Staley's lyrics and voice and lead guitarist Jerry Cantrell's guitar riffs" --FMSky (talk) 07:46, 30 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
I disagree, to me it's perfectly normal, natural English -- a lot of people in real life would say, "The singer Layne Staley/the guitarist Jerry Cantrell," not, "Singer Layne Staley/guitarist Jerry Cantrell." This is why I add definite articles, because it is standard English. It's removing the definite article that sounds clunky, as it is a type of journalese known as a false title.
I know it says this on the page I linked in the subject line, but do these sentences that use the definite article feel stupid or unnatural to you? And if so, why?:
The dog, Rex, was a golden retriever.
The sister, Jessica, arrived by car.
The newest restaurant, the Golden Duck, opened last year. JeffSpaceman (talk) 14:43, 30 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
Well yes it depends obviously, in these cases it sounds perfectly normal. In the ones I mentioned though it comes across as awkward. Imo these changes would have to be evaluated on a case by case basis FMSky (talk) 00:48, 31 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
Just so you know, I have removed the descriptions of Staley and Cantrell from that section of the article, due to the fact that it points out that Jerden admired Staley's lyrics and voice and Cantrell's guitar riffs. Personally, I think that their roles in the band should not have to be pointed out when they are explained immediately afterwards -- "He admired the vocalist's lyrics and voice and the lead guitarist's guitar riffs" seems kind of redundant, when it could just be written as, "He admired Staley's lyrics and voice and Cantrell's guitar riffs." To me, that sentence works better. But how do you feel? I wanted to bring this here as we are discussing the article in question. JeffSpaceman (talk) 02:54, 31 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
Yes i agree, that definitely seems like a sensible change --FMSky (talk) 04:47, 31 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

Yitzchak Mirilashvili

edit

Hello FMSky. Would you be willing to look at the pending edit request on Yitzchak Mirilashvili's Talk page? The language of the Philanthropy section, specifically the first paragraph of that section, includes excessive detail most of which has nothing to do with Mirilashvili himself. Furthermore, the language is not-NPOV (suggesting that making charitable donations is a crime), and the resolution of the investigation- that Mirilashvili was found to have done nothing wrong- is not included. I have posted my suggested language on the Talk page. I'd be grateful for your time and assistance in implementing these changes. Thank you, January2424 (talk) 13:40, 13 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

Dirt (Alice in Chains album)

edit

Sorry about removing the false titles, I admit I shouldn't have per WP:STATUSQUO. I'm sorry for any inconvenience I may have caused. I will state here though that I have changed "5x" to "quintuple," and removed Koontz's occupation (as well as an unnecessary comma), due to the fact that I find "quintuple" to be more encyclopedic than the abbreviated "5x," while the description of Koontz as a horror novelist is unnecessary (the fact that he is an author is established by the fact that it mentions Staley was reading the book -- what kind of an author Koontz is and what genre he writes within is unnecessary to the article as a whole, especially when the link to Koontz's article is right there to verify this).

Do you believe these two changes are alright? I'll refrain from adding "the," since I understand your reasoning, but are you OK with these? JeffSpaceman (talk) 23:03, 16 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

Undid revision on Mimi Mariani

edit

What's up. I undid your revision that changed the short description of Mimi Mariani, as I felt that the information you deleted was essential-enough to be included in the short description. Plus, with it included, it's still pretty short, so that would fit and look nice in the shortness of the short description.

Mathcore

edit

The edit you made on the article about mathcore needs to be undone because you took out genres such as hardcore punk, avant-garde metal, and replaced them with industrial and death metal. You also put that the genre was coming from post-hardcore which is just not true. Mathcore is a direct offshoot of metalcore and its #1 stylistic origin, not post-hardcore. That being said, mathcore is not influenced primarily by post-hardcore. Death metal makes no sense whatsoever. Your source is unreliable. Figurila (talk) 00:42, 22 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

the edits were sourced. Go ahead and change it if you can find a better source.
I've reverted it for now but the article isn't adequately sourced rn
Sorry if I came off a bit rough with that, I just couldn’t view the source on my device for some reason, so I thought it just was some biased edit hence why I made the talk page post calling the site unreliable. I can find the correct sources for the metalcore genres. Sorry abt that! Figurila (talk) 01:20, 22 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
