Awards FT
editSo, I'm probably not going to be around WT:MLB much in the next few days. I was just really offended by some comments by other users there. I haven't decided whether I'm going to continue working on the MLB awards FT or not. Depending on how I decide to move forward with Wiki now, I might defer being involved in the nomination for not-entirely-unpolitical reasons. Felt you deserved a courtesy note for your recent contributions and support. You wouldn't think that a comment by one user could chase someone else off, but it's possible. KV5 (Talk • Phils) 01:08, 24 September 2009 (UTC)
- It's nice to be needed, but apparently not needed enough. There are a lot of users out there in the Project that I respect, but one of them basically just told me my opinion doesn't matter, talk page policies be damned. Is it worth it? I don't know. I wouldn't have anywhere else to go on Wikipedia if I left the baseball project; I don't know enough about anything else but music, and the only music stuff I know is already well-covered. It is what it is. I thought I needed some time to cool down, but I'm really not angry. I'm just disappointed and feel disrespected. KV5 (Talk • Phils) 01:21, 24 September 2009 (UTC)
- I wish the debate was about content; that's what I know. Maybe I should just keep my nose, my head, and my ever-growing ass out of policy discussions... ^_^ KV5 (Talk • Phils) 01:47, 24 September 2009 (UTC)

editYou're welcome, just assuming good faith. Sure, I'd be glad to help out. With this, we can get a good topic, just like season two. I have my eyes on "Reunion", my favorite episode of the season, as well as "The Ones". -- ThinkBlue (Hit BLUE) 20:39, 24 September 2009 (UTC)
- Alright, I'll try to find some info. about the episodes, which is the only thing needed in "The Ones", as well as a plot cleanup. Yup, important episodes in their own right. If you need help, let me know and I'll see what I can do. :) Good luck on your test. :P -- ThinkBlue (Hit BLUE) 21:05, 24 September 2009 (UTC)
- The DVD was just released this week. I'll see if I can rent it or check it out from my near-by library. If I do, I'll write notes about the episodes and share them with you. :) -- ThinkBlue (Hit BLUE) 21:23, 24 September 2009 (UTC)

RE: World Series MVP
editThe MLB MVP and Cy Young are the most important regular season awards in MLB, which is why I added those two on the table. This is like a why or why not factor, but in my opinion, having more information is better than having less, though having too much isn't necessary. I think the MLB and Cy Young Awards are in between the more and too much, so ehh... -- [[SRE.K.A.L.|L.A.K.ERS]] 01:31, 25 September 2009 (UTC)
- Though you are right that remembering colors is pretty difficult, I think the actives, HOFs, losing team, and multiple winners are fairly easy to identify, as it looks pretty obvious IMO. The awards can easily be identified from the symbols, as there are only 3 left, but ehh... If you want to remove, go ahead and edit the article. -- [[SRE.K.A.L.|L.A.K.ERS]] 01:42, 25 September 2009 (UTC)

The Military history WikiProject Newsletter : XLIII (September 2009)
edit
| |||
Greetings to all members of the Military history WikiProject, and to those outside the project who receive this news letter as well! My name is TomStar81, and it with a great sense of pride that I assume the position of lead coordinator for the project. On behalf of all the coordinators, both new and returning, we wish to thank those of you who participated in the September elections, and we look forward to working to advance the goals of the project for the next six months. With the elections concluded, there are two changes. First, Roger Davies has been appointed a coordinator emeritus, joining our first coordinator emeritus Kirill Lokshin. Secondly, for the first time ever, the lead coordinator for the Military history WikiProject will be taking a lengthy wikibreak. For those who were unaware of this, I am an undergraduate student, and will be taking a leave of absence, effective end September, to focus on graduating in December. However, with fourteen coordinators, and two coordinators emeritus, I am confident the needs of the project will be well taken care of. For the VIII coordinator tranche, TomStar81 (Talk) |

Philly Baseball WOF
editFound you a ref. KV5 (Talk • Phils) 17:14, 5 October 2009 (UTC)
- I've thought about a managers topic for a while; I think it could work. We would just have to think about logistics.
- For the source: how is it tenuous? "[The] A’s Society learned in January 2003 that the Phillies new ball park would not have space to accommodate the 25 Athletics plaques or any future inductees" is what I considered to be the ref for that.
- As to the main article for the Awards topic, we can't FLC it right now. Muboshgu (whose name you did spell correctly) has an open FLC right now, as do I. He's the creator, and I'm the primary contributor, because I rebuilt the thing in my sandbox. We'll have to wait until both of ours are cleared off of there because of the current backlog. That is the main reason why I was holding off. I'd like to concentrate on reviewing and helping to clear the backlog before I nominate that, but it's almost ready at this point. KV5 (Talk • Phils) 17:32, 5 October 2009 (UTC)
- I wouldn't have any problem with that, as long as it's done properly. My problem is this: are FT reviewers going to expect, along with the team managers lists, that each manager have a GA or FA? Because that's likely an unattainable goal. KV5 (Talk • Phils) 17:41, 5 October 2009 (UTC)
- I also don't think I'm digging the table concept for this list. For a lead article, I'd like to do something more along the lines of List of MLB awards, where there is more room for images, a blurb about the manager and his record, so on and so forth. KV5 (Talk • Phils) 17:52, 5 October 2009 (UTC)
- I don't know that it's particularly "personal"; surely it's subjective, but every article has a measure of subjectivity regardless of content. If we set the standards to include the manager's name, place of birth, record, and other etc. that you would find in a standard table, it also gives us leeway to write about awards or championships that the manager has won. Honestly, I feel that those managers like Cox and Torre who have accomplished scads in baseball deserve a little more face time than A. J. Hinch (though I do like him since he's a former Phillie!). KV5 (Talk • Phils) 18:11, 5 October 2009 (UTC)
- So Drew Carpenter is just as notable as Bobby Cox? KV5 (Talk • Phils) 18:26, 5 October 2009 (UTC)
- I guess we differ in opinion there. The only major issue I see with that topic right now is that someone really needs to update List of Washington Nationals managers. I know it's a big project, so I'll lay claim to Oakland 'cuz I know no one else wants to do it. Gives me at least SOME Philadelphia connection. KV5 (Talk • Phils) 18:34, 5 October 2009 (UTC)
- Those are probably both destined for WP:PR; I don't think either is long enough to be able to pass an FLC yet. KV5 (Talk • Phils) 18:43, 5 October 2009 (UTC)
- Shit, I didn't realize they'd had 10 managers already in only 16 years! Just goes to show how much attention I pay to the Fishes. Before we dismiss the idea of a text list (above) out of hand, let me see if I can mock something up tonight and then we can talk about it later. Work? KV5 (Talk • Phils) 18:52, 5 October 2009 (UTC)
- Yo. I have a very rough mock-up (only three teams semi-done right now) in my sandbox if you'd care to comment. KV5 (Talk • Phils) 23:03, 5 October 2009 (UTC)
I just went ahead and created the article :) Gary King (talk) 23:57, 6 October 2009 (UTC)

Sets
editIs a set of four counted as one or four FPs? Should you just list the one 'lead' image in the galleries? --jjron (talk) 02:31, 25 October 2009 (UTC)
- Which is one of the many reasons sets are such a mess and one of the many things that has never been discussed or resolved (or I believe even handled consistently). I think some closers have only used a 'lead' image in the past. Surely a nom with four (six, ten, sixteen...) images that only gets four votes can't then produce four or whatever FPs? Isn't that rather unfair? Wouldn't it need 4 x 4 votes? --jjron (talk) 02:48, 25 October 2009 (UTC)
- Which doesn't resolve the set mess - copying a mistake is still a mistake :-). Refer to mikaul's comment at Wikipedia:Featured picture candidates/Tristram Shandy for example. Neither of these (the set you just closed or the one you referenced) have even been established properly according to that entirely reasonable suggestion (and per his comments here he does support sets, where he further elaborates on the comments above). And refer to File:Pin tumbler no key.svg, File:Pin tumbler bad key.svg, File:Pin tumbler with key.svg, File:Pin tumbler unlocked.svg for an example where only one (the third one) is used in galleries (FP subpage, FP thumbs), etc. --jjron (talk) 03:31, 25 October 2009 (UTC)
- I'm dropping this onto FPC:Talk for wider input (don't think I'm having a go at you, you were just trying to close it). But it's not up to us to resolve. --jjron (talk) 03:47, 25 October 2009 (UTC)

30 Rock Season 3 FLC
editHey Stax, it was a pleasure. Hope it passes soon, can't really see anything holding it back now. The Rambling Man (talk) 17:15, 27 October 2009 (UTC)
I just supported the FLC. Anyways, yeah, User:Jamie jca and I collaborated for a while and got the second season to a good topic, but both of our activity has really minimized lately. I actually haven't seen the third season, and I can't really contribute as much as I used to, but I'd definitely be up to the task if you need any help. Anything you're thinking of working on in the near future? Corn.u.co.pia • Disc.us.sion 06:07, 28 October 2009 (UTC)
- Well, I have exams for the next few weeks, so I'll be away, but after that I'll definitely help out. And the third season does sound great, so I'll try watching it soon (unfortunately they air it at like midnight here in Australia, so I've been unable to keep up). Re:30 Rock
editRambo is right, topics have 3 months to include articles from the date of their creation, but many articles (such as this one) can't be GA/FL at time of creation because of stability issues. Hence instead, the article needs to be audited by way of a completed Peer Review by the end of those 3 months, and then it can be included as an audited article until such a time as it is eligible for GA/FL, in this case once the season ends - it then gets 3 months from that date to achieve GA/FL. Notice the difference between criteria 3.a and 3.c, and how the two articles you mentioned, Degrassi: The Next Generation (season 9) and DJ Hero, both have two retentions - one for the PR, and a second for the FL/GA. 30 Rock (season 4) has two as well, and it is the first but not the second it is currently failing on - rst20xx (talk) 11:30, 28 October 2009 (UTC)

Monitor calibration
editHey Stax, your monitor may need calibration. Did you save an interim edit in TIFF format before your most recent upload? It looks like you accidentally enabled the "hard edge" setting on the clone tool. The sampling from source and destination areas that differ in brightness causes problems which jump out on a calibrated monitor. The tool size should be 8-10px for that border rather than 50-55px. If you've got an older version of the edit without the problems we could go to that, or even (don't groan) start afresh. Properly done, this is a big job. Might be better to tackle something under 100MB. Best regards, Durova348 14:34, 28 October 2009 (UTC)

2009 World Series
editYour removal here cites precedent from 2004, but 2008 World Series seems to have all the flags and alternative networks. Why are we using 2004 as a model instead of 2008? GlassCobra 14:56, 30 October 2009 (UTC)
- Okay, no problems here. Was just curious why that one was the benchmark. Should the flags/networks from 2008 be removed as well? GlassCobra 15:11, 30 October 2009 (UTC)

Hank Aaron Award
editIt should be noted that this award has little prestige associated with it. Furthermore, the award does a poor job at selecting winners. Showing that the best hitter rarely wins the award ought to be in the article. 2009 WS references
editSeems to me that we should probably try to make these consistent. For example, I've always used Major League Baseball over MLB.com when I cite references from their website, but I know that others do the opposite. Perhaps the compromise is to use MLB.com in the "work" field, and Major League Baseball in the "publisher" field? I've seen that on a couple of the citations, I believe, and that seems like a good way to go. Let me know what you think. GlassCobra 21:13, 2 November 2009 (UTC)

- Actually, Commissioner's Trophy (MLB) does show a link to the All-Star Game MVP award... right at the top. Either way, I'm ok. KV5 (Talk • Phils) 20:37, 5 November 2009 (UTC)
- I can help with that; I actually did a lot of the re-arranging and writing that was split out into the pre-World Series champs article, since Scorp and I were working on that together. When he disappeared temporarily, I kinda forgot about it. I'm actually looking at where I can scrounge some GAs from, because I want to advance to the next level of triple-crown-dom. :-D You can take a look at my next one: probably the most obscure player with a chance at GA. Anything you need/want help with, just let me know. KV5 (Talk • Phils) 20:42, 5 November 2009 (UTC)
- Don't worry, the only one I care about is already done. Sorry if you needed that one... As to managers, it's a good idea with a good head-start, and I'm raring to go on the A's. I was just waiting to try and get some of these other GAs out of the way first. Someone needs to go proofread the completed ones, though; the List of Nats managers is seriously out of date. - As an aside on both topics, the List of MLB awards FLC is going fairly smoothly, and the List of MLB managers is still progressing slowly in my sandbox.

editIt might interest you to know that User:DragonLair04 is being very uncivilized and uncooperative in the needless discussion of his changes to the lead of Mariano Rivera. At User talk:Muboshgu#Mariano Rivera, he's basically sworn off listening to you, me, or Muboshgu, and he's threatening to report us to administrators (LOL). This coming from a guy with less than 20 edits! He also posted messages on both our user talk pages asking us to "Please refrain from abusing warning or blocking templates" just because we warned him to stop disrupting the quality of a FAC article. Not sure what to do here, but it might be worth opening a discussion on WP:ANI if he keeps this up. Y2kcrazyjoker4 (talk) 05:33, 6 November 2009 (UTC)
- Yet again, he's leaving these warning templates on my talk page warning me about vandalizing pages. All because I am reverting his changes, disagree with him, and am making it well-known on talk pages. I would leave additional warnings on his talk page informing him of his own hypocrisy, but I'd rather not instigate him anymore than he already is. I'd rather just have someone with more influence deal with him. Is there anything you can do? It's getting to the point where I'm thinking he's bordering on WP:HOUND. Wikipedia:Featured_picture_candidates/Supplicating_Pilgrim_at_Masjid_Al_Haram._Mecca,_Saudi_Arabia
editTake a second look at this FP nomination, the quality is due to the rules of the Mosque, cameras are forbidden so any images inside are mostly cell phone images or cheap cameras people are not afraid to have confiscated. Technical quality issues should be ignored in such situations where the best we can get is going to be poor quality images do to restrictions. — raeky (talk | edits) 00:22, 9 November 2009 (UTC)
Re:Barnstar
editThanks for the barnstar. A lot of free images of Yankee parade are in here so I uploaded three Images. Pere Tàpies
editHi. Some years ago you deleted Pere Tàpies; the article has a couple of incoming links and I would like to add some content to it. Please undelete the article. --Una Smith (talk) 15:22, 14 November 2009 (UTC)
Undeleted
editHello I just wanted to inform you that I undeleted Huntsville (game), as it is an article on software, and therefore does not fall under the CSD policy. --Coffee // have a cup // ark // 04:24, 15 November 2009 (UTC)
DYK for The Problem Solvers (30 Rock)
editList of 30 Rock eps
editHey again. I've been thinking about how we have summaries of each episode at both the "list of episodes" page, and at each respective "season article". This creates the problem that when one summary is edited, the other remains the same, and thus we may have two totally different summaries for many episodes. I'm thinking that we should just delete all summaries from the "list of episodes" page, like I did here, and leave the summaries for each episode at the season page. I think it would make things much easier to manage. Corn.u.co.pia • Disc.us.sion 15:40, 19 November 2009 (UTC)
- Well you've been doing a good job, but you shouldn't have to waste your time. I'll delete the summaries and see how it goes from there. Corn.u.co.pia • Disc.us.sion 04:05, 20 November 2009 (UTC)
- I'd love to help out, but yeah, I haven't been able to watch the episodes. I'm not sure if you'd be able to find enough information for only one appearance or so, but you could establish notability by providing critical reception, and some development of the character. I had a quick look but couldn't find much on development. Good luck! Corn.u.co.pia • Disc.us.sion 04:45, 20 November 2009 (UTC)
- Hmm, well unfortunately I don't think I'll be able to contribute much anymore. I'm really busy in real life nowadays, but I'll still be around. The only topic I can see developing are either characters or episodes. I think episodes are much easier in any case. Other than that, most major articles of the series are developed quite well. I think it's time
editHey Stax. As much as I still dread the process as a whole, I think it might be RFA time. After all, if one man calls you crazy, ignore him. If a second man calls you crazy, start to wonder. If a third man calls you crazy, buy a straitjacket and a drool-bucket... I'll let Secret know that I've reconsidered as well. KV5 (Talk • Phils) 17:21, 1 December 2009 (UTC)
As I know you been gone for awhile (an old welcome back btw), just letting you know an RFA can't be processed without the candidate answering the questions first. I know it was a bit different when we got promoted to adminship back in 2006, but now editors are extremely worried about the answers towards questions. Thanks Secret account 18:37, 1 December 2009 (UTC)
- And regarding your recent response, very well said. KV5 (Talk • Phils) 15:43, 2 December 2009 (UTC)
Becoming an administrator
editHey Staxringold. Although I'm quite new, and I only have rollback rights of any priveleges (that isn't spelled right), are there any tips on how I might be nominated for adminship? Please don't consider this a beg, I'm not asking for an adminship nomination, simply the ways I may be able to receive one. Thank you for your time. --ҚЯĀŽΨÇÉV13 other crap 22:19, 1 December 2009 (UTC)
- Ok, thanks. Appreciate the help. On a relatively seperate note, why is it that you don't do a lot as an admin? --ҚЯĀŽΨÇÉV13 other crap 18:38, 2 December 2009 (UTC)
2009 World Series Quotes
edit- OH I'M SORRY STAX IS THIS YOUR ARTICLE? DO YOU OWN IT? A VIDEO OF THEY ACTUAL CALL IS NOT A REFERENCE??? By the way what does this mean? "Linking to a random video is not a cite and a series quotes section is NOT in the 2 FA WS articles" I don't mean to be rude, but I don't read gibberish, please spell it out 2 FA WS?????? If your trying to say series quotes are not part of any other World Series articles YOUR WRONG CHECK THE LAST THREE... UM just how is the video random??? Looks to me the FOX LOGO is clearly there, it is available on yankees.com, mlb.com, and phillies.com It does not seem to be random when you click on it, it show you what you need to see. It is as credible as any source out there, on any other wikipedia page. By the way we sure could use someone like you, I need you to troll all the other Wikipedia pages, and remove all those sources that are dead links. I nominated you for this very special job.--Subman758 (talk) 05:32, 3 December 2009 (UTC)
- Well Thank you for clearing that up. I still feel the quotes should be there, in some way, shape, or form. Having them does not take away from the article, they add to it. Imagine if we took the quotes away from say Apollo 11, Vin Scully, or Walter Cronkite. We would be taking from those articles, while making their subjects seem less important.--Subman758 (talk) 03:11, 4 December 2009 (UTC)
2010 WikiCup Signups Reconfirmation!
editTo ensure that everyone who signed up is still committed to participating in the 2010 WikiCup, it is required that you remove your name from this list! By removing your name, you are not removing yourself from the WikiCup. This is simply a way for the judges to take note of who has not yet reconfirmed their participation. If you have not removed your name from that list by December 30th, 2009 (by 23:59 (UTC)) then your name will be removed from the WikiCup.
It's worth noting the rules have changed, likely after you signed up. The changes made thus far are:
- Mainspace and/or portal edits will not be awarded points at all.
- Did you know? articles (which were worth 5 points last year) will now be worth 10 points.
- Good articles (which were worth 30 points last year) will now be worth 40 points.
- Valued pictures will be now awarded points, however the amount (5 or 10 points) is still being discussed.
- Featured lists (which were worth 30 points last year) will now be worth 40 points.
- Featured portals (which were worth 25 points last year) will now be worth 35 points.
- Featured articles (which were worth 50 points last year) will now be worth 100 points.
- Featured topics (which were worth 10 points per article last year) will now be worth 15 points per any article in the topic that you were a major contributor to.
- Good topics (which were worth 5 points per article last year) will now be worth 10 points per any article in the topic that you were a major contributor to.
- In the news will still be awarded points, however the amount (5 or 10 points) is still being discussed.
If you have any final concerns about the WikiCup's rules and regulations, please ask them now, before the Cup begins to avoid last minute problems. You may come to the WikiCup's talk page, or any of the judge's user talk pages. We're looking forwards to a great 2010 WikiCup! On behalf of the WikiCup judges, iMatthew talk at 03:47, 5 December 2009 (UTC)

RfA
editEven though you didn't explicitly support (!?), obviously your encouragement has been invaluable to me. Thanks a lot for all of your confidence in me. Spam for you!
Hello, Staxringold! This is just a note thanking you for participating in my recent Request for Adminship, which passed with a total of 93 support !votes, 1 oppose and 3 editors remaining neutral. While frankly overwhelmed by the level of support, I humbly thank the community for the trust it has placed in me, and vow to use the tools judiciously and without malice. |
Now where's the key to the executive washroom? Hahaha..... KV5 (Talk • Phils) 02:42, 9 December 2009 (UTC)
- Hey, just another question: if I want to practice with tools, am I allowed to practice on my doppelganger (like blocking User:KV5, protecting its talk page, etc.?) KV5 (Talk • Phils) 02:54, 9 December 2009 (UTC)
Orphaned non-free image File:Being digital negroponte.gif
