Edison picture

edit

I noticed you removed the Edison picture. I know the pictures in electrical engineering aren't great. I especially would like to replace the iron ring picture (perhaps with one of students working in a lab) but I liked the Edison picture. It was relevant to the history, was a good picture and opened the article with a picture (right now the first screen of the article is devoid of pictures). I might add it back later, but I welcome your thoughts before I do. Cedars 06:32, 30 September 2005 (UTC)Reply

I've readded the Edison picture, but removed the MEMs picture that was under a non-standard license and more likely to run in to the next section than the Edison picture. The iron ring picture has also been replaced with a picture of a maths lecture (it looks far better). I am also thinking of shifting out the radomes picture in favour for something more relevant. I still welcome your ideas on either the article or its pictures. Cedars 07:17, 30 September 2005 (UTC)Reply

Vote Templates

edit

I left the following comment at RFA talk, but I wanted to make sure you saw it:

Phroziac and whoever else may be using a template in voting, please use it only with "subst:". Templates in voting contexts have been discussed before and strongly discouraged because they allow someone trollish to transparently change your vote after the fact, without having to edit the actual page you voted on. Also, it is generally considered a bad idea even for you to change your vote phrase after the fact. I have an impression based on previous discussions that vote templates have actually been banned from AFD, though I don't know where to find a reference for that. Mechanics of Deletion Review

edit

Hi. You were involved in the discussion at Wikipedia talk:Votes for undeletion#The scope of VfU which looked to establish a Deletion Review process in place of VfU. There is now a discussion about how we might construct the mechanics of such a process. The current proposal suggests that debates be relisted on AfD if there is a majority of editors wanting to overturn the debate (usually on procedural grounds) and that the alternative result be implemented if it is supported by three-quarters of editors. Please call by Wikipedia talk:Votes for undeletion/Deletion review proposal when you can to discuss. Thanks, and apologies for pinging your talk page again! -Splashtalk 02:01, 4 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

I-268

edit

WTF? It was moved without discussion. I created it from information from a meeting in Paul Mattox (WVDOH Commersionors) office. I was repairing the improper move. It was moved with out discussion, which is wrong. All I did was fix it. Why is there a double standard? --71Demon 00:03, 5 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

    • I never reverted it! Look at the history. The Entry is still in what I think is the wrong location West Run Expressway and the correct place for the info Interstate 268(Proposed) still has the redirect. I did correct some of the content, but I never reverted anything back to the way I think it should be as you requested. So I get banned for following your request? I will also not edit anything following your request for 24 hours. --71Demon 00:34, 5 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

I can't see the revert that you blocked him for. Check his user contributions from after your warning not to revert. Theresa Knott (a tenth stroke) 05:52, 5 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

    • Phorziac, the original entry was Interstate 268(Proposed) please check that. User:SPUI moved it without any discussion to West Run Expressway. His own source information he external linked states the West Run Expressway project was cancled on 2 March 2001 over 4 years ago. That was during Bob Wise's governorship. I'm a member of the US 50 Association and the Mineral County, West Virginia planning commission, and I deal with WVDOH on a semi regular basis. In meetings with Paul Mattox, WVDOH Commission I learned of the currect Interstate 268 project. I did site that in the reason for reversion to the orginal Interstate 268(Proposed). I believe that they moved to the Interstate 268 to get support from PA, because the proposed route now takes the highway into PA. I did not put that info in my orginal entry because I could not varify it was for PA support, but it would be logical to assume. However I don't put assumptions on Wiki. Based on this information I request that you move the entry back to Interstate 268(Proposed), if my logic is flawed please point it out to me. Thank YOu --71Demon 14:34, 5 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

ArbCom election

edit

Phroziac, I noticed on the mailing list you were wondering where to run for the ArbCom in the December elections. See Wikipedia:Arbitration Committee Elections December 2005, where you can list yourself on the candidate sub-page. Also, (can't miss this promo opportunity) make sure you turn to The Wikipedia Signpost for your latest news on the ArbCom election — we're doing a special series on the election, and we will have our fourth in the series out on Monday. Dear Phroziac: EXTREME LESBIAN THANKS FOR SUPPORTING MY RFA! I promise to be a well-behaved admin, and to always do the best I possibly can to serve the community rather than my own interests. I am also immensely pleased that the community appears to be in a temporary state of respite from editcountitis, and may even be on the road to recovery. :-) It has been a pleasure working with you, both on Wikipedia and on our new project, and I look forward to working with you in the future. Fair use images on your user page.

edit

These images on your user page: Image:AIM-logo2.gif, Image:Edwood1.jpg, and Image:AckbarStanding.jpg are all fair use images. While one could argue that the AIM logo might be fair use in that you're publicizing your AIM account, I would tend to lean toward this being against fair use provisions. And the Ed Wood and Ackbar photos certainly are. I would suggest that you remove these. Ral315 WS 05:57, 8 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

Accidental blocking

edit

Hi Phroziac - seem that when you were blocking an anon earlier today you accidentally blocked a hard-working stub sorter. Have a look on User talk:Mindmatrix. Anything you can do about it? Grutness...wha? 00:42, 11 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

Hmm, I don't think there's anything wrong with people working fast. The objective is to write an encyclopedia, after all. I think we should let Mindmatrix work as fast as (s)he likes, as long as (s)he does it concientiously and knows what (s)he's doing. Worst case, somewhere the costs will show up as maybe a couple of dollars well spent in the purchase price of a new server. ;-) Kim Bruning 10:36, 11 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

That's $12,000 approx. depending upon the role of the server, and we only have one database master, so a new server wouldn't fix that particular load problem. But I do agree with Kim; users working fast are to be encouraged, and directed towards our articles on cyborgs and repetitive strain injury etc.. Rob Church Talk | FAD 22:52, 13 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

Hi there. First, let me state that I understand why you blocked me; being mistaken for a bot tells me that perhaps I need a new hobby. Thanks for your message on my talk page. I've decided that, when servers are busy, I will slow down my editing. (BTW: I am writing a bot, and when its ready, I will certainly clear its use and observe all rules on WP:BOT. I'll also be registering a separate account for auditing purposes.) If I came across as irate in the message on my talk page, I apologize - getting an indefinite ban was a bit of a surprise to me! I think I've set a new standard for Wikipediholia :-) Mindmatrix 21:37, 11 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

Advice/help needed

edit

Hi Phroziac - I see you've been dragged into the bike-stub fiasco :(, and was wondering if you could suggest what to do about SPUI. I've never handled an RfC, and don't know how to go about it, but he's being a menace and continually disrupting WP:SFD. First he voted against the deletion of a redirected template that was named contrary to naming guidelines (fair enough, that's his prerogative). When he saw that the vote was going against him, he unilaterally decided to remove all nominations for deletion of stub redirects from the page (e.g., here, claiming that they were not within the parameters of the page (despite stub redirects having been voted on there since the first day the page went live, with the full knowledge of RFD). Next, he decided to continuously re-create deleted stub redirects. Now, he's descended to insulting both me and Mairi on our talk pages (see User_talk:Mairi#Your deletion of {{bike-stub}}). I'm very tempted to block him, but that seems pretty heavy handed, so RfC seems the best cause, but I'd like to know whether you can think of any possible alternatives. Grutness...wha? 07:47, 25 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for that. He's quietened down a bit now, but if things heat up again I think I'll summon my courage and rfc him. Grutness...wha? 02:02, 26 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

Hey Phroziac. Just a reminder to check whatlinkshere when you delete an article from AfD to see if it will leave broken redirects and to delete them if that's the case. The article may also need unlinking if it is linked to from places as well. -Splashtalk 11:37, 27 October 2005 (UTC)Reply
