Is it just me, or do election years almost always turn up the national debt?

actually it usually doesnt. Generally you have the other party to prevent things like that. We start with truman who had a near 100% of debt = GNP due to us fueling the economy during WW2. Then it declines till reagan who ran up it rebuilding the military and spending to grow the economy which caused the decline during the clinton era even when he increased spending. It went up for bush due to the static economy over 10 years and him cutting taxes

I'm talking about the tiny spikes on the party-crossing lines and between those lines where you'd expect each election year to be. Tiny spikes leading up to each election. As though being close to an election increases national debt directly.

Or maybe each president "debts it up" buying golden icecream sundaes near the end of their term just in case they won't get another...

Just weird to see that little spike almost every four years.
