Welcome to the assessment department of the Cities WikiProject! This department focuses on assessing the quality of Wikipedia's articles related to cities. While much of the work is done in conjunction with the WP:1.0 program, the article ratings are also used within the project itself to aid in recognizing excellent contributions and identifying topics in need of further work.

The ratings are done in a distributed fashion through parameters in the {{WPCities}} project banner; this causes the articles to be placed in the appropriate sub-categories of Category:WikiProject Cities articles by quality and Category:WikiProject Cities articles by importance, which serves as the foundation for an automatically generated worklist.

Frequently asked questions

edit
How can I get my article rated?
Please list it in the section for assessment requests below. Also, feel free to contact someone from the Peer Review Volunteer listing.
Who can assess articles?
Any member of the Cities WikiProject is free to add or change the rating of an article.
Why didn't the reviewer leave any comments?
Unfortunately, due to the volume of articles that need to be assessed, we are unable to leave detailed comments in most cases. If you have particular questions, you might ask the person who assessed the article; they will usually be happy to provide you with their reasoning.
What if I don't agree with a rating?
You can list it in the section for assessment requests below, and someone will take a look at it. Alternately, you can ask any member of the project to rate the article again.
Aren't the ratings subjective?
Yes, they are, but it's the best system we've been able to devise; if you have a better idea, please don't hesitate to let us know!

If you have any other questions not listed here, please feel free to ask them on the discussion page for this department.

Quality assessments

edit

An article's quality assessment is generated from the class parameter in the {{WikiProject Banner Shell}}. Articles that have the {{WPCities}} project banner on their talk page will be added to the appropriate categories by quality.

The following values may be used for the class parameter to describe the quality of the article (see Wikipedia:Content assessment for assessment criteria):

Stub (adds articles to Category:Stub-Class WikiProject Cities articles) Stub
FL (for featured lists only; adds articles to Category:FL-Class WikiProject Cities articles)   FL
List (adds articles to Category:List-Class WikiProject Cities articles) List

For non-standard grades and non-mainspace content, the following values may be used for the class parameter:

Category (for categories; adds pages to Category:Category-Class WikiProject Cities articles) Category
Disambig (for disambiguation pages; adds pages to Category:Disambig-Class WikiProject Cities articles) Disambig
Draft (for drafts; adds pages to Category:Draft-Class WikiProject Cities articles) Draft
FM (for featured media only; adds pages to Category:FM-Class WikiProject Cities articles)   FM
File (for files and timed text; adds pages to Category:File-Class WikiProject Cities articles) File
Portal (for portal pages; adds pages to Category:Portal-Class WikiProject Cities articles) Portal
Project (for project pages; adds pages to Category:Project-Class WikiProject Cities articles) Project
Redirect (for redirect pages; adds pages to Category:Redirect-Class WikiProject Cities articles) Redirect
Template (for templates and modules; adds pages to Category:Template-Class WikiProject Cities articles) Template
NA (for any other pages where assessment is unnecessary; adds pages to Category:NA-Class WikiProject Cities articles) NA
??? (articles for which a valid class has not yet been provided are listed in Category:Unassessed WikiProject Cities articles) ???

After assessing an article's quality, any comments on the assessment can be added to the article's talk page.

Requesting an assessment

edit

If you have made significant changes to an article and would like an outside opinion on a new rating for it (Stub, Start, C-class, B-class, or A-class), please list it below. If you would like your article reviewed for Good or Featured status, please nominate the article at WP:GAN or WP:FAC, respectively. If you would like comments by more than one individual on improving your article, without an explicit rating, nominate your article for Peer Review.

Requested assessments

edit
  • Zaprešić (GA-class trying to progress to A-class; failed FA two months ago)
  • Template:Kollam (Made Significant changes, requesting an assessment)
  • Tiburon (This page has quite a bit of info, and is deserving of an assessment based on what is already in the article.
  • Milan Township, Allen County, Indiana (Made Significant changes, requesting an assessment)
  • Keyser, West Virginia (Dramatically expanded history section and meticulously added citations, among other things)
  • Hawthorne, Florida This is a low-importance article but I have expanded and updated it. I would like some feedback and to get it out of start-class. Should try to push it through to GAN? (added 2018-11-03)
  • Apex, North Carolina (Did a bunch of cleanup and expanded content. requesting assessment)
  • Stone Mountain, Georgia (Expanded article, including richer history content, organizations, and film references. Cleaned up content with warning boxes.) Added 9 Dec 2018
  • Plantation, Florida (Significantly re-written since Start class was received)
  • Yekaterinburg (Significantly re-written since C Class, would like a change from C class to B class) Added 07-04-2019
  • Lohne, Germany (Made Significant changes, requesting an assessment)
  • Zenica (Completely rewritten i.e. translated article nominated for GA status on Serbian Wikipedia, requesting reassessment; I think B class would be fair now and Mid importance [I am more sure for Mid importance])
  • Appleton, Wisconsin (This should be low importance, as it has a population much less than 200,000, and has no international news coverage)
  • Kingsville, Texas (made significant changes, requesting upgrade from stub status...still working on article and would like feedback thus far)
  • Rocky Mount, North Carolina (Rewritten and reorganized since given start class. Would appreciate an assessment and any feedback. Thanks!)
  • Dundalk, Ireland. (Rewritten and reorganized since given start class. Would appreciate an assessment and any feedback. Thanks!)
