Category:Catholicism. Opinions are mixed, but it looks like several of the arguments in favor of Category:Catholic Church have been answered since the beginning of the discussion, because none of the list given by Carlossuarez46 are part of Category:Catholic organizations any more, and in regards to Chicbyaccident's last question, the ones that are left include entries such as American Catholic Philosophical Association, Challoner Club, and Married Priests Now!, which are clearly not "part of or run by the Roman Catholic Church". I imagine some recategorization to the Catholic Church tree has been done as Jzsj recommended. --GRuban (talk) 21:59, 16 June 2018 (UTC)
Different views have been indicated regarding the parent categorisation of this category. Marcocapelle seems to insist it should be categorised in Category:Catholicism rather than Category:Catholic Church. Third points of view would be welcome. Chicbyaccident (talk) 11:36, 1 May 2018 (UTC)
- Yes, for example the tree contains Category:Catholic political parties and Category:Catholic trade unions which are much more appropriately categorised in Catholicism as a 'movement' in society. Note that there is also Category:Catholic Church organizations which does sit in the tree of Category:Catholic Church. Marcocapelle (talk) 18:09, 1 May 2018 (UTC)
- Please note that Catholicism redirects to Catholic Church. There is no article Catholicism (movement). So what are the arguments for following another logic in the category tree, please? Chicbyaccident (talk) 21:29, 1 May 2018 (UTC)
- Rework needed, it's good this came up. I think someone should separate all the content specific to the (Roman) Catholic Church and put it in the Catholic Church tree. "Catholicism" is unclear and best left to the general idea of catholicity as explained in the article "Catholicity". I think it more respectful to go back to the early creeds for the meaning of "catholic church" as universal. This would be in accord with most dictionaries. Jzsj (talk) 08:31, 2 May 2018 (UTC)
- @Jzsj: Well, it is indeed an ongoing discussion. Please see the hatnote at Category:Catholicism. Chicbyaccident (talk) 09:47, 2 May 2018 (UTC)
- If I understand correctly, Catholic organizations are not part of the Roman (or other) Catholic Church, but are independent organizations that identify as Catholic. Insofar as this is true, this category does not belong as a subcategory under Catholic Church. Clean Copytalk 08:32, 12 May 2018 (UTC)
- Actually, that is contrary to my understanding. Putting aside whether Catholic is and only is Roman Catholic; I assume for most purposes the Jesuits, the Daughters of Charity of Saint Vincent de Paul, the College of Cardinals, and the University of Notre Dame in Indiana are "Catholic organizations"...and are part of or run by the Roman Catholic Church. On what in the longstanding category description or in the entries listed in the category do you base that on, please? Chicbyaccident (talk) 08:53, 12 May 2018 (UTC)

Follow-up
editI can't see any conclusion on the above discussion. What is the WP:CONSENSUS please? If it is to be categorised with Category:Catholic Church, then why would this be the exception to the consensus in all other "Catholic X" categories? PPEMES (talk) 11:36, 23 July 2019 (UTC)
