The Legal Matter Standard Specification (LMSS) is a taxonomy for the uniform description of legal proceedings and related processes and entities.

LMSS has been accepted by legal matter management and legal case management software vendors to facilitate the interoperability of fragmented information systems.[1][2] Portions of the taxonomy stem from a major legacy legal information services vendor, Bloomberg Law,[3] and the standard was later adopted by Bloomberg's top competitor, Thompson Reuters.[4]
