This is a list of members of the second Gauteng Provincial Legislature as elected in the election of 2 June 1999. In that election, the African National Congress (ANC) retained the majority it had won in South Africa's first post-apartheid elections in 1994; it held all 50 of its 73 seats in the legislature.[1] The Democratic Party was the official opposition, from 2000 as part of the Democratic Alliance. The ANC's Mbhazima Shilowa was elected Premier of Gauteng and Firoz Cachalia served as Speaker.[2]
