Trains of the Yallourn 900mm Railway pulled by electric locomotives pass under the overburden dredge on the former 900 mm (2 ft 11+7⁄16 in) gauge railway in the open cut coal mine at Yallourn, Victoria, Australia. The trains used the two inner rails of the purpose built four-rail track while the dredge used the outer rails.

British Rail class 55 "Deltic" locomotive 55008 The Green Howards passes Peterborough with a Kings Cross-Newcastle working in July 1974 while other diesel locomotives look on from the stabling point. One of 55008's cabs has been preserved as the basis for a locomotive simulator.

The world's first AC locomotive, powered by 3 phase AC at 3600 V, is posed for a photograph in 1902. The locomotive was designed by Kálmán Kandó in Ganz Company, Hungary, and used on Valtellina railway in Italy.

A special charter train pulled by SNCB/NMBS 5307 and 202.020 (CFL 1602) crosses a bridge on line 42, Rivage - Gouvy, in Roanne-Coo, Wallonia, Belgium in 2004. The bridge is 186 metres (610 ft) long, 23 metres (75 ft) high and was opened in 1885.

A passenger train stops at the Brazzaville station on the Congo-Ocean Railway in 1932. It has been estimated that 17,000 of the construction workers, who were mainly recruited from what is now southern Chad and the Central African Republic, died during the construction of the railway, which was completed in 1934

The Anghel Saligny Bridge, originally built in the 1890s to cross the Danube and Borcea branch of the Danube and known as the King Carol I Bridge, was depicted on a Romanian postage stamp in 1972. The bridge was opened in 1895 with a convoy of 15 whistling locomotives crossing it at 60 km/h (37 mph), followed by a train reserved for 'guests', at 80 km/h (50 mph).

A Deutsche Reichsbahn-Gesellschaft class ET 165 electric multiple unit, originally built in the late 1920s, of which many units were transferred to PKP class EW90, was preserved and is periodically used on the Berlin S-Bahn as the Christmas Train.
