Astyages and Esther - historical accuracy of using the year 454 BC for this event.
editHow was it determined that this entry should go into this particular year??
According to Wikipedia, Astyages, the great King of Persia, ruled between 585 BC and 550 BC. The entry on the Book of Esther in Wikipedia says that she was the queen-consort of either Xerxes I (ruled 486 BC - 465 BC) or possibly Artaxerxes II (ruled 405 BC - 359 BC). So using Wikipedia, it seems unlikely that this event occurred in 454 BC. Clarification of the basis for the year timing of this entry (not the entry itself) would be appreciated. --Chaleyer61 10:37, 25 October 2006 (UTC).
- I agree with you. I only reformulated the text and fixed minor details, but now that you mention this, I also start to wonder. /Ludde23 Talk Contrib 00:01, 26 October 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks. I will wait for a response from Malone before seeking to amend the entry. --Chaleyer61 03:16, 26 October 2006 (UTC)
- How is anything in Esther relevant to dating the Decree? And Wikipedia is often wrong, why have these talk page discussions. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.25.176.92 (talk) 07:21, 29 March 2014 (UTC)
Removed Anonymous Edit
editAn Anonymous editor (24.119.213.30) added information only accepted by Jehovah's Witnesses (i.e. the decree to rebuild Jerusalem being in 454 BC instead of 445/4). I removed it since this is incorrect. If we ought to keep it, perhaps we ought to add that it is the date according to Jehovah's Witnesses. In the case that we do this, I have only commented out (wrapping the text in <!--...-->
) the questionable text. AChildOfGod (talk) 15:44, 5 April 2017 (UTC)
