Common name

This article needs an explanation on the "love lies bleeding" name. Can't find one anywhere. Why is it called that? Mac Dreamstate (talk) 15:34, 25 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

The flowers look like blood droplets, and it used to represent hopeless love in the Victorian flower language. Also, Love-lies-bleeding reminds me of a virtue name, so maybe it seemed like a sensible name at the time. SapphicVixie (talk) 09:18, 17 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
The source currently links to a random gardening website. If anyone has a copy of "A Victorian flower dictionary: The language of flowers companion" by Mandy Kirkby, I would expect to find this plant in there. SapphicVixie (talk) 09:23, 17 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
