Silly claim

edit

" An exchange rate of $2.40:£1 would have allowed for accurate conversion down to the penny, with one penny becoming one cent, however the Government thought it more important that the new currency unit be more valuable than the United States dollar which it would not have been under a 2.4:1 ratio.[citation needed]"

This is nonsense. The 2:1 ratio was chosen so that all of the existing ten shilling, one pound and 5 pound banknotes in circulation, could be exhanged directly for $1, $2 and $10 new notes. The discrepancy between the value of 1 penny and 1 cent is inconsequential, particularly as the sixpence coin was directly equivalent to the new 5c coin.Eregli bob (talk) 09:25, 21 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Adelaide pound: contradiction?

edit

There seems to be a contradictory claim in the caption about the 1852 Adelaide pound. The coin itself says that it weighs 5 pennyweight 15 grains (i.e. about 8.75 grams in real units, consistent with the caption). However, this is not 0.2580 troy or avoirdupois ounces (both of which are a smaller quantity). I am inclined just to remove that part since it seems to be misleading. Any thoughts? Archon 2488- According to the cited ref (and another, written by the same author), the 0.2580 oz is in actual gold weight (AGW). But if it is misleading then it should be reworded or cut out...--Godot13 (talk) 20:07, 5 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

Currency symbol

edit

Where is the source for one Australian pound ever being written as £1AU ? A dynamic IP is going around adding "currency symbols" to multiple articles with no sources and I am dubious. I am removing this one until a source is produced, though I'm tempted to remove all of them. Zerotalk 04:58, 13 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
