Early assessment of the article
editOne of my ancestors was at this battle and so I've read numerous accounts of it. The description of the battle is bad and incomplete and I'm fighting errors that are getting inserted.
This web article gives a good idea of what went on but I would not use it for citation purposes http://mikenh.wordpress.com/2010/03/29/20-captain-lovewells-war/
I'm likely to add broad descriptions to the article over time to tell the story and then later get more specific with cited details to get more encyclopedic. WikiParker (talk) 12:44, 8 December 2011 (UTC)
Date of battle
editOne of the earliest writer's of the battle changed the date of the battle so it would not appear that chaplain Frye scalped the Abenaki on the sabbath. Thus we are constantly changing the date of the battle in this article from the one he gave (and others cite) to the real date. WikiParker (talk) 14:23, 8 December 2011 (UTC)
Appreciation
editGreat additions. Do you think the commemorations of the battle you deleted from the intro might go into a legacy section? I also have not been able to find any information on Chief Paugus - do you have any? The only accounts I have to draw on are from Grenier's work. I look forward to reading the details you can provide. --Hantsheroes (talk) 01:11, 9 December 2011 (UTC)
- Legacy: Good title. I'm going to change the section name from other the next time I edit that section. Paugus: His biography is supplied on pages 121-26 in the book The scalp hunters: Abenaki ambush at Lovewell Pond, 1725 http://books.google.com/books?id=uQGMtb6A8a4C&pg=PA121 That information seems to come from the work of Fanny Hardy Eckstrom. I have not found free copies of her work on the web. WikiParker (talk) 03:50, 9 December 2011 (UTC)
Grenier citation
editCitation 5 is to Grenier 2008 but #6 is to Grenier 2003. Should Grenier 2003 really be Grenier 2008? If not then we need a fuller citation for Grenier 2003. WikiParker (talk) 00:47, 15 December 2011 (UTC)
