Edits
editI removed the VPW garbage. Kip has wreslted thousands of times overseas. Not every promotion he wrestles for deserves a separate section. I also removed the stuff about the TNA CT house show that was cancelled as it doesn't relate to Kip.BooyakaDell 04:54, 19 November 2006 (UTC)
About his finishing moves
editThere is a finsihing move called "The Missouri Boat Ride" but isn't it "The Mississippi Boat Ride"?

- It's from the film Outlaw Joesy Wales, '...we got sum'than here called a Missouri boat ride.'(Halbared 15:00, 25 June 2006 (UTC))
- No.

That was a typo which as of now has been fixed, his TNA bio says its the Missouri Boat Ride Sepulwiki 23:04, 28 May 2008 (UTC)
Finishing moves and accomplishmenats
editRe added his finishing moves and accomplishmenents from a earlier version as nearly all other wiki articles about wrestlers have them. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 222.153.1.126 (talk • contribs) 10:15, 4 December 2006 (UTC).
Picture
editCan anyone edit the picture, its absolutely horrible, if I knew how I would
- Editing wont do much... what we need is someone to meet Sopp and get a decent photo... it has to be a fan photo which a user has given full rights for us to use as a free image.. untl then we are stuck with that image --- Paulley 13:56, 10 March 2007 (UTC)
Jobbing to Sabrina
editI think it should be mentioned that in that episode of Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Billy Gun did the j-o-b to Sabrina!! He put her over big time! --212.84.125.251 (talk) 23:14, 15 January 2008 (UTC)

Personal Life
editit mentions he married his first wife, and then got divorced. Did he get remarried, or is that statement just really misleading? ♥Nici♥Vampire♥Heart♥ 01:03, 1 March 2008 (UTC)
Back to WWE?
editAccording to PWMania. WWE have showed some interested in bringing back former superstar Bob Hardcore Holly and former DX member Badass Billy Gunn as just a tag team. They want former superstars they can get over and bill as tough old veterans aganist some of the new younger talent. Both are real-life good friends. As apparently Sopp pitched the idea to John Laurinaitis.
I got it from lordsofpain. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.48.114.20 (talk) 21:30, 9 October 2009 (UTC)
- Neither lordsofpain nor PWMania are reliable sources, so it won't be added to the article. ♥Nici♥Vampire♥Heart♥ 23:18, 9 October 2009 (UTC)
Yeah neither sites are reliable sources for wikipedia however for the rest of the world it is reliable who know that wikipedia itself is unreliable. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 91.107.141.228 (talk) 03:15, 30 December 2009 (UTC)
Rumors of affair
editThis in my opinion should not be included in the personal life section because it hasn't been verified and WP is no place for rumors. I tried to remove it but someone put it back. Can someone do something about this? (MgTurtle (talk) 01:49, 24 August 2010 (UTC))
WPW Title/World Champion
editBilly Gunn is not a former World Heavyweight Champion. The WPW World Heavyweight Championship is not considered by any major wrestling publications to be a World Heavyweight Championship. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.231.134.145 (talk) 00:21, 6 February 2011 (UTC)
The New Age Outlaw?
editHe never used that name in TNA. He just went by The Outlaw. Once again another mistake on OWW. TheGary (talk) 02:16, 2 August 2011 (UTC)
Requested move to Billy Gunn
edit- The following discussion is an archived discussion of the proposal. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the proposal was move per request.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 13:02, 20 December 2012 (UTC)
Monty Sopp → Billy Gunn – Sopp is best known by the performing name "Billy Gunn" (688,000 Google search results for "Billy Gunn" compared to 70,100 for "Monty Sopp"). This will allow more direct linking. Sopp is currently working for the company for who he performed as "Billy Gunn" and is now semi-retired, meaning he is unlikely to achieve greater notability under a different name. - Support as nominator. McPhail (talk) 23:53, 13 December 2012 (UTC)
- Support - Monty Sopp is clearly not the common name. I believe he has used this name (and variations thereof) enough to make this his common name (likewise with Mike Plotcheck->Bart Gunn). GaryColemanFan (talk) 03:55, 14 December 2012 (UTC)
- Support McPhail, you should site Google News instead of Google search. Google news - "Billy Gunn" 324, "Kip James" 2, "Monty Sopp" 1. Starship.paint (talk) 04:38, 14 December 2012 (UTC)
- Support He's had other names, but relatively little fame or coverage under them. His "brother", on the other hand, is about equally famous as Bart Gunn and Mike Barton, so using his real name makes more sense. InedibleHulk (talk) 10:22, 14 December 2012 (UTC)

His Birthday
editSeveral anonymous IPs have tried to correct his birthday without a reliable source and with no citation. It got so bad last night that I requested temporary protection just so I could work through the matter with some peace. They insist on using a Facebook page. There are about six Facebook pages that claim to be his Facebook page. I quoted them two policies about using Facebook, Twitter, and social media in general as sources - in general not good sources.
I did some digging on the Internet today. I found many sources, reliable and not, that have both of the birthdates on them. It's highly difficult to determine. You could rely on his Twitter account since it's verified but citing that is problematic. So, since I'm lucky enough to have a Newspapers.com account. I found 4 newspaper articles there that verify his correct birthdate, which is the one that Gunn is saying on his Twitter and these IPs are asking to update. I will make the updates tomorrow. The IPs don't know how to update the page correctly or even what a citation is so I will take care of all of that. Nothing wrong with anon IPs wanting to make corrections, but they need to follow policies same as all of us. Will write more later. dawnleelynn(talk) 01:58, 13 November 2018 (UTC)
I changed his birthdate from November 11, 1963, to November 1, 1963, in two places: the beginning of the article (the leadin) and the infobox. I also added it to this Personal life section. I removed the old citation and added a new citation to these birthdates with the URL of the newspaper clipping I created, which is : [1].
I could also mention that one of the many anonymous IPs that were trying to change the birthdate found me on Twitter and tweeted my address to his wife, who then tweeted me directly. She said she had been trying to get the date corrected for years. So this date change obviously needed doing. Perhaps I should have relied on his Twitter account from the beginning since it is verified. My mentor mentioned she would for something like this. Anyway, I would keep the citation on all three birthdate occurrences to keep the date from being changed again. His wife said a change of this nature shouldn't have become this big of deal, and she's right. I just came along a few days ago; this has gone on for years; his article is over 10 years old. dawnleelynn(talk) 21:09, 14 November 2018 (UTC) Since I forgotto say earlier, the wrong birthday that has been here for some time was November 11; his correct birthday is November 1. dawnleelynn(talk) 04:22, 24 December 2018 (UTC)
Fylindfotberserk Hi, this editor is obviously becoming a nuisance, with all his sockpuppets changing Gunn's birthday to the wrong date. It is so ironic that many IPs were all angry with me for protecting his birthdate of the 11th earlier. Then after I found out from his wife it was really the 1st, now an editor is trying to change it back to the 11th. I just wanted to let you know I filed for semi-protection on the article. Below is a weird attempt of an IP user to file for it. Oh, and I used the account I have at newspapers.com for the birthday source, free through Wikipedia, thinking that would be a solid source for his birthday. But there are still several sources out there that have his birthdate wrong. Anyway, happy holidays. dawnleelynn(talk) 17:49, 23 December 2018 (UTC)
@Dawnleelynn: Yeah, some people never learn. They are just here to vandalize Wikipedia. It is good that the page got protected. Happy Holidays. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 10:25, 24 December 2018 (UTC)
- Fylindfotberserk Just letting you know I got pending changes protection on the page until July. That's a nice long time not to have to worry about the sock puppet changing Sopp's birthdate. I also got the permission too, out of the blue an admin asked me on my talk page. I think it may have something to do with the vandalism I was dealing with on some bull riding articles. Anyway, it means I can approve or reject the pending changes to this page. Happy Trails! dawnleelynn(talk) 00:27, 31 January 2019 (UTC)
- @Dawnleelynn:Until July, that's awesome. Congratulations man for being a Pending Changes Reviewer. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 10:03, 31 January 2019 (UTC)
- @Fylindfotberserk: I appreciate that. But I am mainly glad I could get the protection. The sock puppet will probably give up for good after that long. dawnleelynn(talk) 16:35, 31 January 2019 (UTC)
- @Dawnleelynn:, Let's hope so. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 10:29, 1 February 2019 (UTC)
