editMaybe somebody would like to add a link in the proper way and place to a GoogleMaps image of the Maaslantkering; http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?ll=51.955976,4.164333&spn=0.033989,0.063343&t=k&hl=en

This entry is very minimal - I found it difficult to obtain any kinds of statistics for the Delta Works. Can anyone provide more information?
I added some information through links a few days ago and restructured the article. I hope this gives some more information. Blue Henk 12:03, 16 December 2006 (UTC)
I watched a program on this that that explained that because of global warming, they were ready to breach the dam and flood several small villages. It also showed how houses were being built nearby to float if it flooded. Can somebody add something about this? --Chickenfeed9 20:30, 23 January 2007 (UTC)

Cost
editWhat is the cost to build and maintain the dike system? Dansample 07:06, 1 October 2007 (UTC)
- It was build for 2.36 billion euro (as in 1986), it costs 17 million euro per year to operate.(see [1] in Dutch). Felsir 13:42, 1 October 2007 (UTC)
10,250 Miles of dike?
editDoes anyone have a source for this number? Seems an awful lot to me, especially considering we have just 3268km of highway and the total area of the Netherlands is about 16000 square miles. I can't find any sources in the Dutch wikipedia Omegium (talk) 23:42, 25 December 2007 (UTC)
And could we please get rid of the "miles" and use real units? 82.143.195.118 (talk) 12:35, 20 March 2008 (UTC)
I don't know where these numbers come from. This file http://www.helpdeskwater.nl/aspx/download.aspx?File=/publish/pages/13634/lrt-eng.pdf states there are 2875 km of primary water defenses (including dams, dunes, sea and riverdikes) in the Netherlands in 2006. I think the only way to come up with such a high number is to take into account all the lake, canal, ditch, river and polder dikes and all watermanagment infrastructure but I would not attribute all that to the Delta Works. It is true that most sea dikes in the Netherlands were raised in the scope of the Delta Works but mostly when people mention the Delta Works they mean the system of dams and barriers in the southwest river delta. I have removed the statement for now.Reboelje (talk) 15:02, 27 December 2009 (UTC)
Contradiction
editThis article contradicts Netherlands#Delta works, which says the project ended around 2002. This article says it ended in 1997. TheUnixGeek (talk) 18:27, 27 May 2009 (UTC)
Rewrite
editThis article is terrible. It goes straight from the lead-in to history, without at any stage describing its subject matter. It needs ground-up rewriting using verifiable sources, better flow and a focus on what people want to know about a large civil engineering project. Hint: Its political history is pretty low on the list. Wayne Hardman (talk) 00:34, 14 March 2010 (UTC)

Environmental impact and policies
editSince this project had a lot of impact on the existing ecosystems and these impacts influenced the decision making process, I think this page could definitely have at least a section with: Consequences. Anyone who disagrees? Marijnekramer (talk) 20:25, 4 April 2018 (UTC)
Is the Works going to work under 66m high (deicing of Antartida and Greenland), and 100m (posterior water expansion as oceans deep waters get warmer)?
