Relation to Platinum group?

edit

The non-similarity of the iron group metals (meaning iron, cobalt and nickel in this case) to the platinum group and its causes should be explained. Normally you'd expect them to be chemically similar, since they are located in the same columns in the periodic system. -- 77.7.149.205 (talk) 13:32, 10 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

What are the chemical similarities?

edit

Many sources claim that the "iron triad" elements have "obviously" similar chemical properties; but I could not find a source that listed them. Help, please?
(A couple sources say that they are ferromagnetic, and the only other element that is similar in that respect is the rare earth gadolinium. That is significant, but not really a chemical property...)
