Regarding Jerry's Voice Actors and Singers:

This nonsense code makes the article barely readable when editing. I am going to put it all back, with "citation needed" information...this process occurs EVERYWHERE on wikipedia, so I still don't see why people have edited it as "unreferenced". A simple review of the theatrical credits (and common sense--most animated features did not credit each actor to a character, until the 1990s) indicates the voice actors of Jerry. I will add more references. The completely uncredited actors, I will put "citation needed", and perhaps delete later until references can be found. Whoever read BOOKS and put them as references, can simply include the remaining voice actors as part of this article!! In-Correct (talk) 21:23, 12 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

Jasper and Jinx

edit

In the forties, the name, “Jasper” was used for mischievous domestic shorthair cats, which Tom is apart of.

However, “Jinx” (also jynx) was most likely an indication to popular superstition and folklore; a curse, or the attribute of attracting bad, or negative luck.

The word “jynx” meaning, the bird wryneck and sometimes a charm or spell has been in use in English since the seventeenth century - was perhaps placed to describe Jerry as attracting bad luck (or a curse) upon Tom, since whenever he is seen, something bad befalls on Tom.

That’s my made-up theory for this superfluous superstition that our friend uttered, and even then, I see no good in transcribing these old, rashy names on these two great historical (and chronical) characters that drew the image of our outside world, which is full of likes of their story.

Mouse A fights with cat B, and their fight results in strife all across the continentals of catness. And I said then, Ah! it must’ve been my old raggy neighbor that always likes to attract mouseness. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Winston19456 (talkcontribs) 13:30, 1 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

Jinx?

edit

Were Tom & Jerry originally called Jasper & Jinx? If so, shouldn't there be some mention of this in the article? VenomousConcept (talk) 16:45, 29 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Personality

edit

As there's a section that lists personality traits on the page for Tom, it's only fair to have a section that lists personality traits on the page for Jerry.--Trisha Gaurav (talk) 23:28, 11 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

My apologies for being unfair to the fictional character. I hope it is not too upset. :)
The list included numerous supposed "personality" traits. If "hungry" is a personality trait, it is one common to every vertebrate on the planet. I've never met you, but I'm willing to bet you've been hungry, love fun, etc. In fact, I am curious right now: how can he be "brave" and a "coward"?
Long story short, the list is a random collection of behaviors/labels (some are adjectives/adverbs; others are nouns) that are vague and POV.
To be fair, I'll remove the similar list on the Tom Cat article, the one about the nice sadist who is a lazy hard-worker. - SummerPhDv2.0 00:39, 12 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

Jerry (Tom and Jerry)Jerry (fictional mouse) – The dab seems a bit weird with the article title. Since there is no other notable fictional mouse other than Jerry, I think this should be moved. Also nominating Tom (Tom and Jerry) for moving. King Prithviraj II (talk) 20:19, 5 October 2017 (UTC)Reply

Name of the mouse

Neither "full" name is authoritative, and even if they were, they cancel each other out. Until the studio itself goes on the record, Jerry is Jerry is Jerry. -- Zanimum (talk) 20:16, 29 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

Relationship of Jerry and Nibbles

edit

There seems to be a contradiction in the article as it currently stands. @LordBossMaster100 has recently changed the Nibbles-to-Jerry relationship in the infobox to "nephew" and added a hidden note "Jerry has been portrayed as Nibble’s uncle throughout the shows history". However the text in the History section states that Nibbles first appeared as a foundling baby on Jerry's doorstep. I don't know which of these is correct, or perhaps they both are because of some plot twist where the foundling turned out to be Jerry's actual nephew (I'm just guessing; I don't know much about the show). But as it stands, there certainly seems to be an inconsistency between the infobox and the text of the article. CodeTalker (talk) 21:35, 22 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

I know the show very well. I grew up with it. Nibbles has always been jerrys nephew. In one episode on the Tom and Jerry show, when Tyke gets a splinter, Nibbles said and I quote “UNCLE Jer”. The IPs are just removing this without a summary, or any source saying that he’s ward etc in the matter LordBossMaster100 (talk) 21:37, 22 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

And that behaviour is not surprising because I personally believe IMO that IPs are troublemakers. LordBossMaster100 (talk) 21:38, 22 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

You’re right about the start with Jerry seeing him at the front door, that was in the comics. But as the shows history progressed, they made Nibbles’s Jerry’s nephew in the episode “Life With Tom”. LordBossMaster100 (talk) 21:40, 22 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

I'm afraid I don't understand. If the character was introduced as an unrelated foundling, and then later changed to be Jerry's nephew, then it's not true that Nibbles has always been portrayed as Jerry's nephew, correct? And the article says that Nibbles's introduction was in a short called The Milky Waif, not in a comic book. CodeTalker (talk) 21:57, 22 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

I dunno dude. It’s just what I found. But the fact is the producers made him his nephew LordBossMaster100 (talk) 23:19, 22 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

It was never specified in the Milky Waif because it was the first time he showed up I believe. until “Life With Tom” when it’s now then mentioned. LordBossMaster100 (talk) 23:20, 22 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

I’ve now found what it said in the book in life with Tom. It said and I quote “On thanksgiving day, my little nephew and I dressed up as pilgrims”. That is the specification it needed LordBossMaster100 (talk) 23:24, 22 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

I'm not sure you're understanding my point. Yes, it is clear that there were episodes in which Nibbles was unambiguously Jerry's nephew. But it appears to also be true that the series was not consistent on this point, and there was also at least one episode when he was not Jerry's nephew (his nephew wouldn't show up on his doorstep as a foundling). In that case this article should mention both relationships and report the inconsistency. Wikipedia should not try to impose an artificial consistency that does not exist in the subject material. CodeTalker (talk) 03:42, 23 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

He was never given a brotherly relationship. Never once. LordBossMaster100 (talk) 09:26, 23 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

I haven't mentioned "brotherly relationship", so I'm not sure what you're responding to here. I guess this is related to the text in the article as of 9 July 2022? So you would be ok with the relationship specified as "nephew/ward" and omitting "brother"? CodeTalker (talk) 18:59, 24 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

What’s up with her? Her date of voice acting Jerry (in the section with voice actors in the table) hasn’t happened yet and the designated voice actor segment on the page doesn’t mention her. 162.83.251.154 (talk) 21:53, 16 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
