Date of birth
editThe date of birth is in question, some sources, also other language Wikipedia pages, have 22 December. If somebody has access to the birth certificate, please post it. --Aloist (talk) 14:44, 30 August 2013 (UTC)
Improprieties with young models
editHi! Have you read this?
While the article is directed at Trump, it contains plenty of allegations about Casablancas. 168.88.65.6 (talk) 14:23, 28 October 2016 (UTC)
for example: after "60 minutes aired a prime-time special on the abuses of underage girls in the modeling industry...Casablancas was removed from his official role as head of the “New Faces” division of Elite, where he had unrestrained access and influence over the youngest and most impressionable girls represented by his agency" — Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.201.249.66 (talk) 22:45, 23 April 2024 (UTC)
The allegations are written in the New York Magazine here: https://books.google.com/books?id=VeUCAAAAMBAJ&pg=PA32&lpg=PA32&dq=john+casablancas+girl+crazy&source=bl&ots=UFvNFKwwSJ&sig=NMt24z8tHl-02wav2GHxtWoZkiI&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjD3IL-gcfPAhWE4D4KHYwNARQQ6AEIHjAA#v=onepage&q=john%20casablancas%20girl%20crazy&f=false He was "dating" 16-year-old Stephanie Seymour in 1984. 168.88.65.6 (talk) 14:32, 28 October 2016 (UTC)
- 16 is "of age" in most states.
- perhaps not in NY where they were based (i think), but it is still a lousy example for claims of his involvement with "underage" girls. pls switch to someone actually "underage" (i.e. 15 or below). 2601:18A:8080:EA60:928D:27CB:977D:2F51 (talk) 05:44, 4 August 2024 (UTC)
Proposed merge with Starsystem
editNo sign has been given of notability of Starsystem; sources are generally passing mentions in the coverage of Casablancas' life. As such, that's where our coverage (if any) should be. Nat Gertler (talk) 13:45, 1 September 2017 (UTC)
- I just went ahead and merged after encountering the Starsystem article and determining that it was clearly not notable, and seeing there wasn't much appetite for a discussion on the matter. --Pontificalibus (talk) 14:58, 8 November 2017 (UTC)
- Right move. Thanks! I forgot to check back here, or I'd have done it myself. --Nat Gertler (talk) 16:41, 8 November 2017 (UTC)
red herring
editGrace Jones, in her autobiography, exposes Casablancas' racism and sexual harassment. He is quoted telling her "Trying to sell a black model in Paris, is like trying to sell an old car no one wants to buy."
she may have indeed exposed racism and sexual harassment by him in her book, but the quote given here is an example of neither. it is pointing out, rather, the racism of the FRENCH, and, in doing so, implies casablancas had a problem with it! 2601:18A:8080:EA60:928D:27CB:977D:2F51 (talk) 05:51, 4 August 2024 (UTC)
- Fair concern. That interpretation was at least not in the text source. I've deleted it. -- Nat Gertler (talk) 13:31, 4 August 2024 (UTC)
