Namesake
editIs there any source for the statement that this John Overton was named for John Overton (judge)? Smmurphy(Talk) 07:01, 12 January 2018 (UTC)
- Webster's dictionary leads with
one that has the same name as another;
. The qualifierespecially : one who is named after another or for whom another is named
is not exclusionary. Trackinfo (talk) 07:17, 12 January 2018 (UTC)- Hmm, that seems a bit of a stretch. Also, I don't know that judge Overton's middle name was Williams. I'm going to reword a bit. Also, there isn't really a connection between this Overton and Jackson, so I'm going to remove that. Smmurphy(Talk) 08:58, 12 January 2018 (UTC)
- I moved mention of the judge to a hatnote, it can be useful for navigation even if it isn't clear if their is a more direct relationship between the two. Smmurphy(Talk) 15:30, 12 January 2018 (UTC)

Infobox photo
editI know that most early photos (1900-1940s) of athletes look like "police mug shots," but still, couldn't a better one of Overton be found and used?
Just curious. 2600:8800:786:A300:C23F:D5FF:FEC4:D51D (talk) 11:37, 24 February 2018 (UTC)
- I didn't find one when I looked. I checked Yale yearbooks from that era as well as WWI PD photo databases and didn't find anything. There are better quality pictures of Overton, but the copyright on those was not clear to me. Smmurphy(Talk) 19:51, 28 February 2018 (UTC)
