The National Atomic Museum was on the base when I visited it in 1996. I think the museum now has it's own building off base, which is a shame as it was a good excuse for a foreign national like me to go and check out a USAF base.

I'm not sure that copying wholesale the entire text of the Kirtland history page maintained on the Kirtland AFB webspace really qualifies as a terrific idea. Perhaps there is value in being concise and including only notable events? The Kirtland history maintained by the Air Force is quite long and when placed into the encyclopedia article, looks quite disorganized. Either we need to trim the material somewhat, or I'd say the text should be reverted. --ABQCat 17:57, 24 May 2005 (UTC)Reply

I can trim it down a bit more. It already has had some of information removed, but I agree that it doesn't look good Muj0 19:13, 24 May 2005 (UTC)Reply

The New Address for The National Atomic Museum

edit

The National Atomic Museum is now located at 1905 Mountain Road NW, Albuquerque New Mexico 87104. Located 2 blocks east of Rio Grande Boulevard and just north of Old Town, Albuquerque. The phone number is (505) 245-2137. Website - http://www.atomicmuseum.com/

Pretty sure this is a temporary location for the museum. The planes, some missiles, etc are all still located at the old museum site and the new location is significantly smaller than the old. Last I had heard, they're going to try to put the museum down near the balloon fiesta grounds. Some argument from local residents of the new site about the large, upright missile located at the new location, also. --ABQCat 06:36, 25 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
It isn't there anymore. We were at the Mountain Road location on Monday and it has been vacated and the sign removed. I believe that it is at 601 Eubank SE as of 4 April, but we were on our way out of town and didn't check. Jim (talk) 06:06, 12 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Additional units

edit

In the 2007 book Apocalypse 2012 author Lawrence E. Joseph mentions several units located at the AFB which are not mentioned in this article:

  • Inhalation Toxicology Laboratory (where Joseph's own company Aerospace Consulting Corporation leased/leases office space)
  • Electromagnetic Pulse Testing Center
  • Big Melt Laser Laboratory

This is mentioned on page 2 of this book. __meco (talk) 15:43, 19 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
