This page needs a lot of expansion, but I hope this is a good basis for a through description of this broad field. Please note that Nature Landscape photography is only one aspect of the Landscape genre.Ion Zone (talk) 11:05, 24 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for your efforts. Unfortunately, this is not the type of content that we can accept since it consists of your own views. Content on Wikipedia must be sourced and writing an article consists of summarising those sources. By all means go through the page and add sources but a better approach might be to rewrite the article from scratch. Sadly, as it stands most of the content would have to be removed. I've got some books out of the library that reference the techniques I describe, they're at college at the moment, so the best I can do is some websites, I hope they are enough for the moment. Could someone check the referencing on the page? I can't get the hang of all the text markup stuff. I removed the uncited and uncategorized tags, though there are still few references and I am unsure if they are good enough.

The current state is "not good enough" in both tone and content. It desperately needs:

  1. More citations to prove its claims
  2. a rewrite of its tone. Wikipedia isn't an advice-guide; it's an encyclopedia.

I'm marking the page as needing a rewrite for multiple issues. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.105.173.102 (talk) 23:01, 12 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

Major Expansion

edit

Have just completed a major expansion of this page, from little more than a stub, to (hopefully) a fairly substantial body of encyclopedic information, citing references from some of the world's leading landscape photographers, and the industry's namesake publication.

Regarding article photographs

edit

Hi everyone, A very pleasant evening spent adding photos to this article.

I think an article on photography deserves a few more photos but also I have tried to include photos that add to and reinforce the information in the article.

I'm just a very basic beginner photographer so I have just had a quick look through commons and attempted to add photos relating directly to the subject.

I have not attempted to just include pretty photos because a) this appears to be an article about the techniques used in landscape photographer and b) pretty photos could be included in a gallery at the end of the article and c) NPOV.

Have included photos showing panorama lens, no lens, long exposure time, night photography, exposure time to bring out water blurring, vista photo, diagram of tripod, landscape of man made fields (pretty mundane shot of ploughed field), etc.

Feel free to change and replace with better examples.

ta,

@Johnscotaus: While I appreciate that you've offered a reasoned explanation for attempting to include more than "pretty photos", I'm not sure you've made a very convincing case. As an article focusing explicitly on landscape photography, it makes no sense to go out of our way to stack it with photographs that could reasonably be characterized as poor by technical standards. This is especially so when, elsewhere in the article, readers are told that man-made subjects are considered landscape mostly just if they are portrayed in artistic settings or "in artistic style". Selecting photographs for this article which could broadly be acknowledged as skillful and technically sound does not really violate WP:NPOV. Anyhow, most of what I see on this page looks just fine, but I've gone ahead and supplanted a crude photo of a ploughed field with something a bit easier on the eyes (and which illustrates the concept of "artistic settings" referred to in the article). —Jgcoleman (talk) 13:19, 21 August 2017 (UTC)Reply

Who am I going to annoy by writing about genres etc ending in -scape?

edit

Genres of photography ending in -scape emphasis the whole or general appearance rather than a detail of the image. For example landscape, seascape, foodscape]] and bodyscape.

I found an absence of a landing point for links from the word bodyscape so started writing one, rapidly shoved into draft. So I've had a wander around a little bit of the structure of the project. The para above is the first one I used - etymology is an interest of mine, and I note the concept isn't in this page, the idea of landscape as a member of the generality of -scapes seems to me mildly useful, as does the analogy with landscape by which bodyscapes* get that name.

  • which may well be nude, but are not always nor obligatorily
