Intro

This is Mathew Louis Schlueter, the son of Louis Schlueter. I have a great deal of history and experience concerning MAPPER. I have access to much on various levels...history, developers, run scripts, etc. My Father is 91 and is still desiring to expand MAPPER. He could never understand why it didnt get more exposure. I have many insiders due to my background with various intelligence agencies, which he never wanted to believe. He continues to write UNISYS and others, such as TRUMP and Elon Musk in an attempt to get attention for the greatest killer APP and the best kept secret in the industry! I am 60 and still use MAPPER on my PC, helping small business use it and other smaller efforts to keep the story alive. My Father has always said, there are two types of people in the world, "Those that know MAPPER and those the do not!" I have one last remark and we will see where all this goes. I worked at NIKE when they said we are getting off MAPPER and I was brought in for the migration process. I looked at everything. I mean everything, as it ran the entire operation, designed by USERS... I told them it would take about 5 years to rework EVERYTHING into something else. It took 10 YEARS and 100 million dollars. There was nothing wrong, they simply had a new CTO who didnt know MAPPER!!!!

While I understand there are a lot of guidelines and etiquette here, I am seeing what level of interest may exist for "the greatest story NEVER told" that is actually all FACTS. MathewSchlueter (talk) 20:04, 15 March 2023 (UTC)

An unsigned comment on 5/11/2007 (MAPPER page difference, with comment) was removed for several reasons. If the comment is legit, it could be introduced as another section or page. Note to GreyGeek, Wiki has this emphasis on notable, however you describe an interesting situation that could deserve it own page. Not so. In 1980-3 I was selling a database/AI RAD system known as SAVVY. It was first produced as a peripheral card for the APPLE ][+ be later was offered as software only for the IBM PC. It was written in PolyForth and its application editor exhibited FORTH-like features. The "natural language" front end could take an ordinary request like "List all my customers in Denver who have purchased WidgetX in the last 5 years, their total purchases, and sort them by address" and a report would be generated. SAVVY was invented by James ??? III, the grandson of Belle Starr, the outlaw woman. He was suspicious of patents and partners and shared his ideas with only one other person. They were the total development team. Needless to say, the move to networking and multi-users was too big for them to handle and the market moved on. The IBM version of SAVVY could run only on an HD 10MB or smaller. However, it was a system where the end user, with NO computer training, could define and use tasks which would make managing their business process effortless. - GreyGeek

Variants

As a customer, we were always told that MAPPER stood for "Maintaining, Preparing and Producing Executive Reports", though in more light-hearted moments, enthusiasts would give the alternate rendering of "Most Amazing Programming Product Ever Released". Chickpea57 (talk) 16:35, 27 August 2008 (UTC)

I knew many of the top people behind the scenes, such as John Thalhuber and Mike Stroeing, and people like Lou Crammer (2nd Historical MAPPER Coordinator) and they used to say this phrase. They where not biased. When the former CEO of IBM, initially took over UNISYS a few years ago, he asked why it was not more prevalent, "stating you guys kick our ass in comparison!" What does "current" mean?

Besides the weirdness of using phrases like "current" on wikipedia, it seems bizarre that any computer language can be described as "current", when its main citation is a nostalgia website (99 bottles of beer on the wall, written in different languages). Wouldn't there be better citations if it was a living language? As a reader, I was interested in what was known about MAPPER, so I don't want this article to go away.
