MTV UK
editRename article MTV UK instead of MTV ONE which is the a single channel branding not the network branding
MTV Ireland - Merger Proposal
editWhy has this article been renamed to MTV UK & Ireland? This therefore means that MTV Ireland should be deleted.
- I don't think it should be deleted, but it could be merged. The MTV Ireland external link on that page just redirects to MTV UK now anyway. --tgheretford (talk) 07:31, 21 July 2006 (UTC)
- Not much to merge - MTV seemed to be thinking of a more major Irish opt-out, gave away the 'chance to present on mtv ireland' on something (might have been Ballygowan water bottles if my memory serves me]] in 2002 or so, etc. But in reality, its a seperate satellite stream with Irish adverts. Nothing else. E4, Paramount, a number of the Sky channels, etc have this too. Definately doesn't need its own article, and if MTV -do- introduce Irish regional content, it can be recreated. --Kiand 07:36, 21 July 2006 (UTC)
Article Clean-up
editThis article does not describe MTV UK. It goes into a tangent on TMF. It is suggested that this be revised by someone more familiar with MTV UK, as I am not from the United Kingdom, and could not accurately change this mistake. D2001dstanley 23:37, 3 February 2006 (UTC)
- OK - Have got rid of all the TMF UK stuff. I would be grateful if someone with knowledge about the history and beginnings MTV UK could update the article, just to 'get things going.' After a bit of info is added about the history, then I could add more about it's position and shows today. Fair use rationale for Image:MTVUKJuly07.gif
editImage:MTVUKJuly07.gif is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.
Off-air
editThere was a section in this article about a day that this channel was off-air for a few hours. There are a couple of issues with this, one being that this non-event is simply not encyclopedic. There's no need to even note it, unless it was a regular problem. Otherwise it is trivial and therefore unwanted.
The second, and most important, is that it was unsourced. The burden of proof lies with the person wanting to include material. Before blindly undoing my removal, please find a reliable, third party source for the incident and cite it. If you cannot, don't put it back in. Forums and blogs are not reliable sources. Thanks. ➨ ❝ЯEDVERS❞ is repressed but remarkably dressed 08:42, 22 September 2008 (UTC)
- Some other MTV articles like MTV R have Off-air section so it needs to be removed. HMR 16:45, 24 September 2008 (UTC)
Move article page from 'MTV One' to 'MTV (UK & Ireland)'
editEarlier today (Wednesday 1st July 2009), Viacom rebranded the MTV One channel, back to its original name of 'MTV'. So, that means this page also needs moving, from MTV One to MTV (UK & Ireland). However some block is on it, which prevents me for doing so.
I assume someone in admin need to perform this task (note to other users, please don't just cut and paste content from page-to-page as this is incorrect!)
Why is it stated that MTV is British ?
editThe opening line of the lead states that MTV is a British music and general entertainment channel. On the actual MTV wiki page the opening sentence of the lead states MTV is an American network based in New York City... To me this is conflicting and it should be made clearer on either page as to the 'nationality' of MTV. Dylan (talk) 15:57, 1 September 2010 (UTC)
MTV +1 Start Date is incorrect
editThis states 'Launched on 1 February 2008 at midday'. This cannot be right. I have access to BARB data + AGB Nielsen's BARB Appendix 04 which gives details on Start/Ending and Rebranding of channels. MTV +1 started 16th December 2003. A query on our database confirms this. – Per this discussion, for consistency with Comedy Central (British TV channel), Drama (British TV channel), Eden (British TV channel), Gold (British TV channel), W (British TV channel), Bravo (British TV channel), and List of programmes broadcast by Comedy Central (British TV channel), among others. 100.7.44.80 (talk) 12:24, 10 April 2023 (UTC)
- Oppose all The channels are also carried in Ireland and outside of timeshifting, all carry the same content. There's no cause to remove an entire country out of a channel title based on a few exceptions that don't air in Ireland, and has been established for over a decade. Also I should note the linked discussion resulted in no moving at all, so this attempt with many more articles seems as equally as Sisyphean. Nate • (chatter) 20:25, 11 April 2023 (UTC)
- Just because a few articles were not moved does not by itself mean this RM is invalid, because context matters here. I believe all UK TV channels with designations like this should be named equally without exception - either they all should be named (Britsh TV channel) or (Britsh and Irish TV channel), and there should be no outliers period. 100.7.44.80 (talk) 22:17, 11 April 2023 (UTC)
- The channels listed are carried in both the UK and Ireland, while the others in the opposed move discussion are UK-only. Not every channel fits into one peg, and there is no point in not only forcing a square peg into a round hole, but by removing an entire country which does receive the channel and not their distinct version designed only for that country. We can all live with typing eleven extra characters, and moving something just for the sake of some 'uniformity' drive doesn't work if the uniform has already been created and put into use, and the new one fits somebody completely wrong. Nate • (chatter) 22:28, 11 April 2023 (UTC)
- 1) Comedy Central is not UK-only. The article says, and I quote, "This channel is specific to audiences within the United Kingdom and Ireland." 2) No, a uniform was never created. I seriously have no idea where you even got that from. 100.7.44.80 (talk) 22:35, 11 April 2023 (UTC)
- I should mention that I'm taking what the Comedy Central article said at face value. Being an American, I have no idea if what I was quoting is actually true. 100.7.44.80 (talk) 23:21, 11 April 2023 (UTC)

- Comment I don't think having around 30-40 page move request would be sensible as it seems more likely or not there will be split opinion among certain users here. It would appear that the first set of pages listed here are available for broadcast in both UK and Ireland (per explanation above) but seeing WP:NCTVUK, it does say
Only one country should be used
. I would suggest nominating them in smaller groups rather than this large group of pages, per the first sentence of mine. Iggy (Swan) (Contribs) 20:30, 11 April 2023 (UTC)
- Comment That's applicable to TV series, not really channels. Nate • (chatter) 21:45, 11 April 2023 (UTC)
