Seaweed

edit

[Are seaweed grown as a mariculture process? I am no expert in this topic. Someone please correct any error. Japanese eat substantial amounts of seaweed of many species.] tu7

In indonesia seaweed and seagrass are sea agriculture or marine agriculture.Daimond 12:10, 27 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
It's grown as both aquaculture and mariculture processes and (although far less in amount) collected from the wild as well. Unfortunately I have no hard source on this information, although I have witnessed with my own eyes part of the mariculture process in Mie Prefecture in Japan. It is also a major food source in several other countries throughout Southeast Asia and other parts of the world. This should be included under "Kelp".

History of Mariculture Lacking

edit

I think we should add a section on the history of mariculture, such as with the Ancient Hawaiians, the Ancient Egyptians or the Romans. Jamutaq (talk) 23:57, 27 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
