Political Position?

edit

I have no familiarity with this party but it sounds like their political position might be Libertarian/Syncretic politics rather than "center-right to right-wing". Would someone with adequate knowledge of this party please consider this thought? I've read the wikipedia article regarding "political-positions" but I'm still not sure what the conventions are for forcing parties that are outside the traditional left-right spectrum into it. This seems to be a massive problem and debate throughout wikipedia that I'm not wishing to engage in. Thanks. --CriticalThinking26 (talk) 05:54, 17 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

This party has had incidents of supporting fascism, and it has shown a strong right-wing populism, so I hope to change its political stance change into right-wing to far-right.The three articles I give examples below, the titles are also (Nippon Ishin no Kai extreme right...)and related discussions.[1][2][3]--MELT1917 (talk) 13:58, 2 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

@MELT1917: Is there anything in English? Because I'm sorry, but your nickname doesn't invoke any credence... --95.24.71.132 (talk) 10:48, 5 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

No one has any objections, I will add it.--MELT1917 (talk) 0:00, 4 November 2021 (UTC)

Japanese Restoration Party

edit

The English Name should be the Japanese Restoration Party.Paul Lincoln (talk) 09:50, 5 July 2018 (UTC)Reply

Name

edit

While this party does have an official English name (Innovation), it is almost never actually referred to by English media sources. It is pretty much always referred to as merely "Ishin" or "Ishin no Kai". It makes me wonder if the article and related pages should be edited to replace references to the English name. Recent Political position

edit

Recently, this party has been increasingly defined by Japanese voters as centrist. [1][2][3] At the least, it is the partial view of the Korean media that has it as far right. So,I think that the expression right-wing should be replaced by the description center-right to right wing. エーリッヒ・レヴェンスキー・フォン・マンシュタイン (talk) 13:39, 6 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

right-wing populist?

edit

Nah.... thats a left-wing smear term, try "libertarian".

Any party has to be populist/popular just to get elected. And why is this smear term so often associated with the political right but hardly with the left? A political demand for expensive welfare programs or slogans such as"tax the rich" are pure left-wing populism driven by jealousy. 80.131.61.141 (talk) 22:37, 13 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

I agree with adding libertarian to the ideology section.
As to whether JIP is a right-wing populist or not, it cannot be said that it is unjustifiable to label it as right-wing populism on Wikipedia, as some media outlets have claimed that it is. On the other hand, right-wing populism is generally regarded as an ideology with a hard-line anti-immigration stance and racist tendencies, but since the party has not shown any such tendencies, such as its support for anti-hate speech laws, I propose that it is simply a populist party. Some people still cite Hashimoto's past statements, but he is already a private citizen and his statements are irrelevant to the party, as they were made during the time of JIP's predecessor, Japan Restoration Party. KS230204 (talk) 04:55, 3 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
Opposition. This party can find quite a few sources that it describes as a right-wing populist directly by Google search. Mureungdowon (talk) 06:48, 4 April 2023 (UTC) - This user have been blocked indefinitely from editing for abusing multiple accounts.Reply
It is true that the expression right-wing populist is seen in no small numbers, so Keep the status quo. So what about the expression libertarian? I think ideology should reflect a liberal-centrrism stance in cultural policy, such as the legalisation of same-sex marriage, and indeed there is a reputation for being libertarian. Alternatively, to emphasise that it is a right-leaning party, one option is to describe it as right-libertarian, like the ACT Party in New Zealand, which tends to be closer to Ishin. KS230204 (talk) 08:01, 5 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
Support. I agree to change the phrase 'Economic liberalism' in the infobox of this article to 'Libertarianism'. Mureungdowon (talk) 11:16, 5 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
Should I leave out the reference to economic liberalism? Although it may be covered in meaning with libertarianism, it does not seem as if the two are strictly different. KS230204 (talk) 13:53, 5 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
@KS230204: "Economic liberalism" should be kept. "Libertarianism" is incomprehensible. --95.24.71.132 (talk) 10:18, 5 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

Conservative? Right-wing?

edit

If some sources concentrate on economics and call this party "conservative", "right-wing", we should not take it for granted and insert it here. This is just a freedom party, maybe "libertarian" can be used, with even some very serious left-wing anti-freedom stances by Japanese standards (anti-"hate speech", universal basic income, reform of the social medical insurance system from age-based subsidy rates to income-based cost subsidies, universal access to free education from preschool to university, free access to childbirth services through a comibation of insurance and voucher system). --95.24.71.132 (talk) 11:27, 4 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

Left-wing populist

edit

instances of “right-wing populism” in the article were replaced with “left-wing populism.” Is this vandalism? 2600:1700:4190:1540:5011:79BB:E4ED:181A (talk) 04:25, 20 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

Renaming to Japan Innovation Party

Legally, it is this and Nippon Ishin (Japan Innovation Party). What are your opinions on moving the page? ValenciaThunderbolt (talk) 16:35, 29 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

Support, since this name is officially used by the party on its English-language resources. Since this party has become much more durable and successful than the 2014-2016 one, I don't think it's necessary to make a pagename like Japan Innovation Party (2015)  PLATEL  (talk) 16:40, 29 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
@PLATEL: I think just naming it Japan Innovation Party would be fine, as the other was shortlived. ValenciaThunderbolt (talk) 16:44, 29 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

Its a mess apparently: Nippon Ishin no Kai is the name of the current Japan Innovation Party and the Japan Restoration Party while there are two Japan Innovation Parties (this one and Japan Innovation Party (2014–2016)) Braganza (talk) 16:41, 29 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

Comment: RMTR does not handle primary topic grabs because they are not unambiguously uncontroversial, so that's why this had to go to full RM. Both pages have to be notified, too. I'm not commenting on the move, just explaining why an RM had to be opened. Sennecaster (Chat) 03:26, 14 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
Why does a redirect have to be notified? ValenciaThunderbolt (talk) 15:28, 14 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
Not the redirect, but the target of a named redirect as noted in the current hat note at Japan Innovation Party (2014–2016) that this redirect is pointing there, so changing it, will affect that article. That in turn triggered the proper notification at Talk:Japan Innovation Party (2014–2016)#Move discussion in progress by our move assist bot to ensure that people that may only be watching the potentially affected other article are informed of this move. Raladic (talk) 17:00, 15 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
Which template will I have to apply to the 2014-2016 party? ValenciaThunderbolt (talk) 17:20, 15 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
The Template:redirect at the top of Japan Innovation Party (2014–2016) that indicates that the article has this incoming redirect link is already on it, which is why it automatically triggered the correct notification of Talk:Japan Innovation Party (2014–2016)#Move discussion in progress.
So at this point, no further notifications have to be made, but basically, that notification having not been made in the prior discussion and it being a potentially contentious primary topic (or WP:PRIMARYREDIRECT to be more precise) change is why we have the formal requested move process to ensure that such moves are properly publicized on noticeboards and related articles, so just something to keep in mind for the future.
Assuming that this now formal RM completes as proposed, the closer or another editor will put a Template:Distinguish or Template:For hat note at the top of this article to point to the other article that had previously had this primary redirect.
Hope this helps explain, Feel free to ping me on my talk page if you have any more questions. Happy editing :) Raladic (talk) 00:33, 16 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
