Sign convention

I don't mind whether the (+---) or (-+++) convention is used, but wouldn't it be pleasant if it would at least be the same one as in Nambu-Goto action? 15:13, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

Equations of Motion

There's a bit of sleight of hand in your discussion of the equations of motion: the target spacetime metric magically becomes Minkowski! We only get nice free field theories for the bosons X^mu when the target is flat. In general the EOMs are not massless wave equations. Some improvements

Leonard Susskind - Inventor?

I know that Leonard Susskind made an offhand comment that he "invented" these in his lecture, but I don't know how literally that should be taken. Is there any other evidence (journal papers, books, etc.) that he should be acknowledged in the lead paragraph as the "inventor"?
