October 25, 2022 photo deletion

edit

@Elcobbola: I didn't see a link for the deletion discussion of the photo, could you please link to that? The photo seems to originate from here where it says "Click on the thumbnail to view the full size photo. Photos on the Senate PhotoWire are intended for media and public use and may be freely reproduced." That the photo is being used on other sites on the web seems in line with the granted permission and does not seem to be a reason to delete it from commons. Hello @BBQboffin: I'm not the person you pinged, but I wanted to let you know about a resource on Wikipedia. There is this page, Wikipedia:Media copyright questions, which deals directly with inquiries like this and would be visible to many more people who could respond to you. I recommend taking this issue there, in addition to this thread here. RoundSquare (talk) 03:56, 25 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
There was no reference to that site--the uploader falsely claimed self authorship and a bogus cc license. However, even if that site had been referenced, the cited statement would not be adequate as it violates the licensing policy in numerous ways; for example: a) we require a specific license (that statement is not a license); b) we require use for all purposes (that statement is limited to "media and public use"); c) we require explicit allowance of derivatives (that statement is silent); and d) we require licenses to be explicitly perpetual and irrevocable (that statement is silent). Verily, this is why it is a copyright violation--a violation of policy(ies) related to copyright--and was speedy deleted as such. Such files are deleted on sight and no discussion is necessary. If the image's author wishes to freely license the image, they may send permission using the process at c:COM:VRT. Note that copyright initially vests with the author (photographer), not the mere subject (Tom Barrett), so purports from the subject or entities controlled by the subject (senatortombarrett.com) will need to offer evidence of a transfer of copyright. Office lottery

edit

The Congresman elect requested to be given one of the offices his great grandfather had occupied. He was not in the lottery as it was agreed to let him have the room. 108.53.141.251 (talk) 05:18, 22 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

Thank you; I corrected this per the NYT source which says he circulated a letter requesting his fellow lawmakers to consider leaving the office space vacant. He did have a lottery number, though. BBQboffingrill me 18:11, 22 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
