The image processing paragraph is too wordy and unclear, many people will glance at it and get the impression that the poor quality image on the right is Don Mitchell's. Further, the links to Don Mitchell all point to a blank page, his biography was deleted by some teenager a while ago and never restored. As of 06/13/2009, Don Mitchell's site "mentallandscape" was reported as an attack site hosting several scripting exploits and other malicious software.

FYI, my website is not hosting malicious software. That was a brief problem last year, when my hosting company was hacked. DonPMitchell (talk) 00:35, 21 March 2010 (UTC)Reply
With regard to the images I processed, from Venera 9,10,13 and 14, I retain copyright, but I have given permission for their use in wikipedia. DonPMitchell (talk) 00:35, 21 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:Venera 9 panorama.gif

edit

Image:Venera 9 panorama.gif is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Pictures needed

edit

The article obviously needs the pictures returned from the surface of the planet. I see that unfortunately a bot deleted a panorama picture because of the lack of a fair use rationale — the 'historic, unique image' criterion obviously applies, allowing us to have the images here under fair use. I'll write up the rationale on the image page if anyone could be so kind as to locate the image(s) and upload them and notify me they'd like any help. Never mind, I found the panorama and included it in the article. Comet Tuttle (talk) 01:05, 19 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

Launch time

edit

There is some confusion about the launch time of Venera-9 and 10. Some Russian sources give it at 04:12:00 (the journal Kosm. Issl. 1976) and another (an article in Novosti Kosmonavtiki 1998) gives it as 02:38:00. I do not know which is correct, although I tend to believe the 1976 article, written by one of the men who calculated the spacecraft trajectory (S.K. Abramovich). OK, 02:38:00 is the correct launch time. The other time was the time of injection into interplanetary transfer orbit, but was mistranslated as launch time by some later papers. DonPMitchell (talk) 03:14, 21 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hello! I've added a image with free license that I've found in this site. I've think that the article about the probe that made the first photo of the surface of a planet must have that photo. By the way, my english sucks, so feel free to re-write the caption. Bye! --Tzibernetic (talk) 18:43, 25 August 2019 (UTC)Reply
