The Nomis website is run by the University of Durham on behalf of the Office for National Statistics (ONS), providing a database of UK labour market statistics. This template is used to provide a link to the Nomis database local area reports, based on the key statistics from the 2011 United Kingdom census. It can be used to replace citations linked to content at the ONS Local statistics site which is no longer available.
Usage
Required parameter
- id: the record identifier on the Nomis website. This a Government Statistical Service (GSS) code.
To obtain the value for this parameter:
- Search for and open the required report on the Nomis site, for example "Silverdale", at the
Nomis Local Area Report search page - The code is included in the body of the report and also in the URL. In this example the URL for Silverdale parish is:
https://www.nomisweb.co.uk/sources/census_2011_ks/report?compare=E04005204
- Copy the code (in this case
E04005204
) and add it to the template.
Optional parameters
Additional information for the title:
- title: additional text description such as the name of the place, it is recommended to copy the title of the Nomis report. eg "Silverdale Parish".
- author: defaults to UK Census, but can be changed to another name if desired.
- author-link: defaults to 2011 United Kingdom census, but is not set by default if author is set to something other than UK Census.
- date: the date provided by Office for National Statistics; can be a full or partial date.
- orig-year: the date information was first provided by Office for National Statistics; only appears if
|date=
is also used. - accessdate: the date a Wikipedia editor retrieved information from the Nomis database.
- mode: defaults to
|mode=cs1
; set to|mode=cs2
to provide consistency with citation style 2, as produced by{{citation}}
. - postscript: controls the closing punctuation for the citation; defaults to a period (
.
); for no terminating punctuation, set to|postscript=none
, however using|mode=cs2
does this automatically. - fewer-links: use
|fewer-links=yes
to remove repeated wikilinks where the template is used more than once in an article. - ref: defaults to author (Census 2011) and the id, but can be reset to any value.
- short: use
|short=yes
with|id=
to produce an external link with just the list number shown;|short=yes
suppresses the display of other parameters.
Examples
{{NOMIS2011|id=1170215054}}
displays as:
- UK Census (2011). "Local Area Report – (1170215054)". Nomis. Office for National Statistics.
{{NOMIS2011|id=1170215054|short=yes}}
displays as:
{{NOMIS2011|id=1170215054|title=Silverdale Parish}}
displays as:
- UK Census (2011). "Local Area Report – Silverdale Parish (1170215054)". Nomis. Office for National Statistics.
{{NOMIS2011|id=1170215054|title=Silverdale Parish|accessdate=25 November 2024}}
displays as:
- UK Census (2011). "Local Area Report – Silverdale Parish (1170215054)". Nomis. Office for National Statistics. Retrieved 25 November 2024.
{{NOMIS2011|id=1170215054|title=Silverdale Parish|ref=none|accessdate=25 November 2024|mode=cs2}}
displays as:
- UK Census (2011), "Local Area Report – Silverdale Parish (1170215054)", Nomis, Office for National Statistics, retrieved 25 November 2024
If a short citation is required (not to be confused with |short=
) and one of the {{harv}} templates or {{sfn}} is used then {{harv|Census 2011|record id}}
will link the short reference to the long one. For example, {{harv|Census 2011|1170215054}}
produces (Census 2011 & 1170215054) that links to the 'Silverdate Parish' example above. This is different from the standard use of the {{harv}} that links using the parameters 'author' and 'date' or 'year'.
Some articles have multiple entries. |fewer-links=yes
can be used to remove the repeated internal wikilinks from any additional and subsequent instances of the template:
{{NOMIS2011|id=1170215054|title=Silverdale Parish|ref=none}}
{{NOMIS2011|id=1170215054|title=Silverdale Parish|ref=none|accessdate=|fewer-links=yes}}
displays as:
- UK Census (2011). "Local Area Report – Silverdale Parish (1170215054)". Nomis. Office for National Statistics.
- UK Census (2011). "Local Area Report – Silverdale Parish (1170215054)". Nomis. Office for National Statistics.
