Peter McDowall Mitchell (30 November 1879 - 2 May 1950) was a Scottish painter.[1][2]

His father was Thomas Mitchell (born c. 1855), a weaver from Alloa, who then became a picture framer.
His mother was Agnes Cowburgh (born c. 1844) from Selkirk, the eldest daughter of William Cowburgh. Thomas and Agnes married at 3 Thorn Street, Earlston on 24 September 1878.[6]
Peter McDowall Mitchell was born on 30 November 1879 at 50 Queen Street, Galashiels.[7][8]
He married Agnes Dobson Mitchell, a confectioner. She was the daughter of George Mitchell, a woolsorter foreman. They married on 4 July 1906 in Galashiels.

editHe died on 2 May 1950 at Victoria Infirmary in Cathcart, Glasgow. The death certificate states he died of a perforated duodenal ulcer, bronchopneumonia and cardiac failure. His usual address was 84 Mossgiel Road, Glasgow.
