Knox was convicted of possession of child pornography for owning videotapes of clothed girls (in leotards and swimsuits) not engaged in sexual acts or even simulated acts. The Solicitor General, in a confession of error, joined in Knox's plea for certiorari, arguing for a vacation of the conviction. (There was a change of administration from Bush to Clinton in between the original appeal and the SC appeal.) SC vacated and remanded the case, but the circuit court upheld the conviction! Knox appealed again to the SC, and this time the Clinton AG (Reno) supported the conviction! See [1], [2]
