hmmm... well, it depends in the meaning of the word hostage. As far as it concerns the Israeli media, Shalit was kidnapped and he is not a hostage since it happened not during a military action. in short, they refer to Shalit as the "kidnapped soldier" and not as the "captive/captured soldier". I must emphasize, however, that what I have said refers to the mainstream of the media and not to the extreme people from both sides of the political map. In order to prove my point, google shows that to to the phrase " the captive/captured soldier Gilad Shalit" there are only 892 results, while to the phrase "the kidnapped soldier soldier Gilad Shalit" there are about 13,000 results. תחי מדינת ישראל (talk) 16:20, 3 February 2008 (UTC)

Spiteful Semitransgenic

Please see current spiteful dispute I am having with Semitransgenic at Tellus Audio Cassette Magazine and at the Noise music page. The issue is this: after a month of work I greatly improved the noise music page - providing wiki with an outstanding noise music page with extensive footnotes, some lacking only page # which I can provide in the near future (as previously explained a # of times), free of WP:OR & WP:SYN that stood for weeks. Semitransgenic then imposed a WP:OR deadline on my providing those page #s and when I challenged that arbitrary deadline Semitransgenic falsely accused me of sock-puppetry with the creator of the Tellus Audio Cassette Magazine - an outstanding wiki page started by Tellus archivist who has entered his resistance to Semitransgenic's dictates. (See talk page at Noise music) I strongly condemn Semitransgenic's tactics as he is doing it again at Tellus Audio Cassette Magazine in spite.

More evidence of Semitransgenic abuse: he has seen the results of the investigation into his charges of sock/meat puppetry against me here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Requests_for_checkuser/Case/Tellus_archivist) and knows (see his contrib page) me to be innocent of them -- yet he repeats them and has not apologized to me as he promised he would. As you can see, the result of his harassment was: "Clerk note: I've indefblocked Taxisfolder as an abandoned account but there is no overlap in activity or block evasion, so Valueyou is left alone. —Wknight94 (talk) 15:43, 11 October 2008 (UTC)

I ask here for a Consensus that disciplinary measures be taken against Semitransgenic as he is a bully and self-declared nazi (see the top of my talk page – that is how he introduced himself to me). I may or may not be of the Jewish faith, but either way I find this kind of macho posturing repugnant. He also addressed me as “dude” later on in my talk page and as I am not of the male sex, I find that sort of address sexist. So, I am seeking a Consensus to out Semitransgenic from the music section of wiki as clearly he has no love of music or the artists who make it. I don't see any constructive contributions by Semitransgenic other posting ugly flag signs where talk on the discussion page would be better because these signs drive away users of wikipedia by making it look half-ass. And I see that you haven't been online since, so perhaps you missed my response? If so, I wanted to invite you to reply. Specifically, it seems to me that some response is called for at least with respect to,

The diffs do speak for themselves, but only if you'll actually read them, and compare them to the sources they cite. For example, Tariqabjotu was defending Israel from a racist attack in the second revert: How can you possibly object to that? He's earned your thanks for that one, at least, not your scorn.

I think I understand your frustration in that ANI thread. I felt frustrated, too, in that you appeared not to have carefully examined the diffs you posted, and I used a tone that communicated my frustration, e.g. the "it wouldn't hurt you to spend half that long" comment I made. That comment was unnecessarily condescending, and I apologize for it. That said, I do think it would demonstrate good faith on your part to more carefully examine the diffs you posted and to address your apparent error, at least with respect to the second of the three you posted. Thank you. I didn't feel offended or hurt in any way, though, so no need to apologize to me at all. I just thought that you might have been behaving just a mote below what ideal perfection would require in the area of fairness with respect to Tariqabjoto. Oh, I know you thought he had been unfair, too, and you may well be right in what you say: Perhaps "uninvolved administrator" should mean no previous edits of any kind in the area of conflict. I don't know the policy about that well-enough to venture an opinion, but it certainly would seem preferable.

Still, I think it always reflects well on one's reputation and credibility to admit any substantive mistake in a contentious situation, even if it's just a small mistake. Doing so acts to de-escalate the intensity of a conflict, perhaps because it's hard to continue to see someone who's willing to admit a mistake as just an oponent; it's humanizing, in other words. Too, it decreases the other party's defensiveness and that makes it much easier for the other party to admit it when he's wrong, too. The thing becomes less of a contest and more of a dialogue aimed at understanding the legitimate aspects of the other's position. But you know these things, too, of course, so excuse me for preaching. Perhaps I was a Rabbi in a previous life. ;-)

I'm not a frequent follower of I/P articles or issues, but to the extent that I do participate, I'm afraid we're probably going to find ourselves on opposite sides of many issues. That doesn't mean that I don't respect and admire your love for your country, though, or that I don't understand why you'd feel a need to champion your cause on Wikipedia. But I would like to be able to discuss issues rationally with you and your friends, i.e. in an atmosphere of respect rather than otherwise. I suppose what I'm getting at is that it's not only being able to admit when you're wrong that promotes such an atmosphere, but also being able to admit when your interlocuter is right.

That "when your interlocuter is right" part is why I offered to help restore what could be restored in that first edit. I'm not sure there's much that can be done with the third one that Tariqabjoto reverted, but it did seem to me that the French news report in that first one was a pertinent and reliable source that merited inclusion in some way. And perhaps the documentation of rocket attacks could find an appropriate "home" in another article, too; someone went to a lot of work to write and source that. Anyway, just some suggestions. Re: History of the Israel National Football Team

Hi Broccoli! I have started copy-editing what you asked. As someone who doesn't take an interest in football, I might miss on some of the technical terms, for example, the following: "it suffered a 2–11 defeat in the two games against Egypt." is completely inexplicable to me. What kind of defeat happened exactly? In any case, I noticed that your translations were extremely literal and would encourage you to think of the text in English, not as a translation of the Hebrew version.

Please note that my copy-editing isn't final and after each section is completed, it is best to look at it and simply reorganize everything for better flow and readability. It will simply make more sense. Finally, I appreciate your time to write a serious Israel-related article in the English Wikipedia. This article has the potential to become a good article, but please keep in mind that sources for every statement (except the lead section) are essential for that.

Check out the Talk: Mein Kampf in the Arabic language where you will find many of us are very doubtful about the veracity of reports that Mein Kampf was a best seller in the PA. In my opinion, featuring such doubtful "facts" in Wiki's prominent "did you know?" section reflects very badly on the encyclopedia. Prunesqualor billets_doux 17:43, 5 August 2011 (UTC)

There's not "many" editors there who are doubtful - there's just you, attempting to discredit well sourced info, from reliable sources (AFP), because you don't like it. TNX for the notice. From the history of the article I see that Anomalocaris decided to hide the image because it is of the Hebrew edition of the book. I can't see any justification for this, and cancelled it. Broccolo (talk) 07:27, 9 April 2012 (UTC)

You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
