Meetup in Athens

edit

Hello! I'd like to turn the first meetup of Wikipedians in Athens, Greece to your attention. We're a group of students involving three German Wikipedia admins and have set up this meetup for March 31st, 6:00 PM (18:00). The location is (to be exspected) the Ama Lachi. We'd very much like seeing as many Wikipedians from Greece as possible. We'd also like some help with the setup of the meeting; we need a contactsman in Athens. It looks like you've made a mistake in your articles on Georgios Chrisafidis and Nikolaos Goumas. I don't know anything about this subject, but you've said that they were both the tenth president. One obviously was, but as I don't know if the other was ninth or eleventh, I can't help out. Just thought I'd better point that out. Cheers!

Speedy deletion of Georgios Toubalidis

edit

A tag has been placed on Georgios Toubalidis requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. ukexpat (talk) 16:04, 19 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Notability of AEK presidents

edit

I think there is an issue with your stub articles on the AEK presidents. In my opinion they do not meet WP's notability guidelines, WP:N. That's why I nominated Georgios Toubalidis for speedy deletion. If it survives speedy, I will take the issue to AfD.  – ukexpat (talk) 16:17, 19 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

I think the issue is wider than references. I don't think that merely being president of AEK makes the subject notable. – ukexpat (talk) 16:22, 19 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
In my opinion yes, those pages should be deleted if their only claim to notability is presidency of their clubs. Also note that other stuff exists is not an argument that another article should survive a deletion nomination. – ukexpat (talk) 16:30, 19 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
Well I am afraid that's not the way Wikipedia works. Notability is one of the pillars of WP: if the subject is not notable, it does not belong in WP. – ukexpat (talk) 16:51, 19 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
I will AfD those other articles if the consensus is that presidency of a football club per se is not notable. – ukexpat (talk) 17:02, 19 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for uploading Image:Haidari FC logo.gif. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Digiweb-logo.gif)

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Digiweb-logo.gif. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 13:23, 3 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Greek footballer articles

edit

Hello. I noticed you have created many articles about Greek footballers, and I appreciate your efforts to improve Wikipedia's coverage of Greek football. However, in order to make sure these articles are not deleted, please add the following to the articles: (1) date of birth; (2) categories (such as Category:Greek footballers); and (3) a source (Guardian's Stats Centre has an excellent section on the Greek Super League here: [1]). It also helps to add an infobox with the player's career information if you have sources for it. I have cleaned up a few of the articles you started (see Ioannis Kanotidis for some ideas on how to add sources, categories and infobox), but please try to improve the articles when you have a chance. Best regards. Jogurney (talk) 18:14, 9 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

  • Hello again Alexandros. You are still creating new articles about footballers with no sources (e.g., Nikos Vasiliou). Please make sure to add at least one source to the articles you create. It saves other editors time, and makes it less likely the article will be deleted. Please let me know if you have questions or need help. Jogurney (talk) 20:27, 5 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

About Scocco's passport

Tough question. Scocco and Pelletieri both have italian passports but whether they are valid is questionable due to a scandal in argentina concerning massive fake italian passports.   Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you recently tried to give Panathinaikos FC a different title by copying its content and pasting it into another page with a different name. This is known as a "cut and paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history which is needed for attribution and various other purposes. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.

In most cases, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page. This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other articles that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Cut and paste move repair holding pen. Thank you. Milan Loukats???

edit

Hi Alexandros! First, I want to thank you for trying to make a Serbian player article, but your effort, unfortunatelly, came in to a problem because of a language barrier, I supose. When doing a non-Greek articles, you should really try to see how the names of people, places, clubs, etc. are written in their language, or at least in English. By the way, it was very funny to see how you wrote the name of the club FK Čukarički in Greek version, Tsoukaritski, or something ... :) . I moved your Milan Loukats page to a redirect of it´s wright place Milan Lukač, since already existed. Well, hoping you don´t get me wrong by letting you now this, I am offering you all help you may need about enything, since I also adore making articles and editing about football here. Wishing you all the best, I send you regards. PS:I hope we both (Serbia and Greece) go far at WC! FkpCascais (talk) 10:13, 11 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

Deletion discussion about Satellite Flight: Journey to Mother Moon

edit

Hello, Alexandros,

I wanted to let you know that there's a discussion about whether Satellite Flight: Journey to Mother Moon should be deleted. Your comments are welcome at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Satellite Flight: Journey to Mother Moon .

If you're new to the process, articles for deletion is a group discussion (not a vote!) that usually lasts seven days. If you need it, there is a guide on how to contribute. Last but not least, you are highly encouraged to continue improving the article; just be sure not to remove the tag about the deletion nomination from the top.

Thanks, ColonelHenry (talk) 03:42, 28 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Man on the Moon III, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Complex. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Invite to the African Destubathon

edit

Hi. You may be interested in participating in the African Destubathon which starts on October 15. Africa currently has over 37,000 stubs and badly needs a quality improvement editathon/contest to flesh out basic stubs. There are proposed substantial prizes to give to editors who do the most articles, and planned smaller prizes for doing to most destubs for each of the 53 African countries, so should be enjoyable! So it would be a good chance to win something for improving stubs on African sportspeople, including footballers, athletes, Olympians and Paralympians etc, particularly female ones, but also male. Even if contests aren't your thing we would be grateful if you could consider destubbing a few African articles during the drive to help the cause and help reduce the massive 37,000 + stub count, of which many are rated high importance (think Regions of countries etc). If you're interested in competing or just loosely contributing a few expanded articles on African Paralympians, Olympians and committees etc, please add your name to the Contestants/participants section. Diversity of work from a lot of people will make this that bit more special. Thanks. --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 21:13, 6 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

Europe 10,000 Challenge invite

edit

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Europe/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Germany, Italy, the Benelux countries, Iberian Peninsula, Romania, Slovenia etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. If you would like to see masses of articles being improved for Europe and your specialist country like Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon, sign up today and once the challenge starts a contest can be organized. This is a way we can target every country of Europe, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant and also sign under any country sub challenge on the page that you might contribute to! Thank you. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 02:03, 6 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
