Nomination of Climate Action Plan for deletion
editA discussion is taking place as to whether the article Climate Action Plan is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.
The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Climate Action Plan until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.

Notability in Knight's Cross Holder articles
editHi, since you participated in an AfD discussion that involved this topic, I'm letting you know that I started a discussion at Wikipedia talk:Notability (people)#Notability in Knight's Cross Holder Articles -- to see if the issue can be dealt on a systemic basis, rather than one off AfDs.
One of the suggestions I got was to see if an RfC may need to be formulated, so I'm seeking input into this potential RfC or other possible ways to address the notability concern in similar articles. K.e.coffman (talk) 04:42, 19 July 2016 (UTC)
New Challenge for Oceania and Australia
editHi, Wikipedia:WikiProject Oceania/The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Australia/The 5000 Challenge are up and running based on Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge which has currently produced over 2300 article improvements and creations. The Australia challenge would feed into the wider region one and potentially New Zealand could have a smaller challenge too. The main goal is content improvement, tackling stale old stubs and important content and improving sourcing/making more consistent but new articles are also welcome if sourced. I understand that this is a big goal for regular editors, especially being summertime where you are, but if you'd like to see large scale quality improvements happening for Oceania and Australia like The Africa Destubathon, which has produced over 1700 articles in 5 weeks, sign up on the page. The idea will be an ongoing national editathon/challenge for the region but fuelled by a series of contests to really get articles on every province and subject mass improved. The Africa contest scaled worldwide would naturally provide great benefits to Oceania countries, particularly Australia and attract new editors. I would like some support from existing editors here to get the Challenges off to a start with some articles to make doing a Destubathon worthwhile and potentially bring about hundreds of improvements in a few weeks through a contest! Cheers.♦ --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 02:12, 24 November 2016 (UTC)

Hello and thank you for your balanced responses to the AfDs that are currently targeting bios that I have created. Your understanding of the era influencing the notability of Deuchar Gordon suggests that you might appreciate my opinion on the notability of Aubrey Murphey. I hope that this doesn't constitute canvassing as you have already addressed the issue. In the 1950s, pre-Sydney Opera House you could drive over the Sydney Harbour Bridge but otherwise the Blue Mountaisn and The Three Sister etc were the state's major tourist attraction. Katoomba is not a rural town and with train access from Sydney it bore the burden of enormous tourism. The citation for MBE says that he received that honour as Mayor of The Blue Mountains. That is quite specific and marks it as a notable honour because I doubt very many people would be in the same position. With Australia in the thrall of Bob Menzies (and I did but see her passing by ...) the visit of the Queen put the area in the news with photos of the mayor beamed around the nation accompanied by ALP politicians. With a divisive background in politics he seems to have become a more accepted figure in the NSW landscape. Media coverage appears limited but in fact isn't local but from Sydney and Lithgow. We don't have a record of radio and revision of the time. I'm rambling ... maybe just looking for counselling rather than canvassing. Any advice or assistance would be appreciated. Castlemate (talk) 01:32, 8 December 2017 (UTC)
- Sad but sometimes when wikipedians get the smell of blood... I think you have to pick your battles. You may not want to read this but some of the articles' subjects were just not notable on any measure that I am aware of, and you did yourself no favour by trying to defend all of them. I think this gave people cause to doubt anything you wrote. I would suggest you spend a lot more time digging through TROVE, and sometimes too you might have to go to an old fashioned library. See for example my work on Oscar Werner Tiegs during a previous wiki life. For Aubrey Murphy (mayor), which I see has now been deleted, you simply have to find some more, and more in-depth, independent reliable sources of information. I have just had another look in TROVE and I cannot find any. TROVE is usually pretty good, that is if any one is any body, given that just about everything was reported in newspapers at that time, one can find something relatively quickly, so this does not look good for an article for Murphy. If you are sure there is notability then certainly keep looking for the material. You may well be able to do better targeted searches than I can, based on better knowledge of the subject. The underlying criticism from others was the distinct lack of notability on some article subjects. On the positive side I think some one did write that your articles were by and large well written and well constructed. If you want me to offer some advice on specific articles please let me know and I will try to. And thank you - yes I did try to call each article as I saw it, each on its own merits, with the resources I could access. Regards. Aoziwe (talk) 12:04, 8 December 2017 (UTC)
- PS re but I was not about to spend the time working through all the struggled OCRing - if you look at TROVE you will see what I meant - often the OCRing leaves a lot to be desired and it takes a lot of effort to read each blurry article to see if it was a search hit or not. 12:12, 8 December 2017 (UTC)
Thank you. Castlemate (talk) 20:51, 8 December 2017 (UTC)
Hi. I wonder if you think the current incarnation of this bio passes muster? Castlemate (talk) 23:39, 9 December 2017 (UTC)
- Sorry but not what you want to read I think. See my comments at User:Aoziwe/sandbox/warren pearson. You may wish to consider this instead of trying to defend the article. Sorry but I believe you really need to find more independent reliable sources with in-depth information about Pearson. Regards. Aoziwe (talk) 11:41, 10 December 2017 (UTC)
- Thank you but I am clearly in the wrong place. This is increasingly a community I don't wish to belong to. Castlemate (talk) 19:49, 13 December 2017 (UTC)

Invitation to WikiProject Portals
editThe Portals WikiProject has been rebooted.
You are invited to join, and participate in the effort to revitalize and improve the Portal system and all the portals in it.
There are sections on the WikiProject page dedicated to tasks (including WikiGnome tasks too), and areas on the talk page for discussing the improvement and automation of the various features of portals.
Many complaints have been lodged in the RfC to delete all portals, pointing out their various problems. They say that many portals are not maintained, or have fallen out of date, are useless, etc. Many of the !votes indicate that the editors who posted them simply don't believe in the potential of portals anymore.
It's time to change all that. Let's give them reasons to believe in portals, by revitalizing them.
The best response to a deletion nomination is to fix the page that was nominated. The further underway the effort is to improve portals by the time the RfC has run its course, the more of the reasons against portals will no longer apply. RfCs typically run 30 days. There are 19 days left in this one. Let's see how many portals we can update and improve before the RfC is closed, and beyond.
A healthy WikiProject dedicated to supporting and maintaining portals may be the strongest argument of all not to delete.
We may even surprise ourselves and exceed all expectations. Who knows what we will be able to accomplish in what may become the biggest Wikicollaboration in years.
Let's do this.
See ya at the WikiProject!
Sincerely, — The Transhumanist 10:18, 21 April 2018 (UTC)
The article Chinese restaurant, Australia has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
Appears to be WP:OR
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. reddogsix (talk) 17:36, 30 April 2018 (UTC)
- Declined. Definitely not OR. All statements are referenced back to, and either direct extracts or directly derived from, high quality reliable secondary and tertiary sources, news and academia. Aoziwe (talk) 12:39, 1 May 2018 (UTC)
Hello, please don't remove that category from articles ... as it says on the top of the category page, it needs to be there along with other general categories for Australian novelists (i.e. the 20th-century Australian novelists cat, the general one). This category scheme was inspired by a New York Times article about a similar situation with the category on American women novelists. Graham87 15:47, 11 May 2018 (UTC)
Graham. I did not remove Category:Australian women novelists from any articles. I did remove Category:Australian novelists from a few because it is redundant. I think you are perhaps not up to date? The American newspaper article does not apply to the Australian context. There are two fully populated categories for Australian novelists, one for male and one for women. (Should be male and female or men and women but that is another matter.) I have re-removed the only two novelists, regardless of gender identity, from the Australian novelists category, as per the instruction in that category lead. Regards. Aoziwe (talk) 06:37, 12 May 2018 (UTC)
- Oops, I meant to say not to remove the general category at Category:Australian novelists, but at the time I didn't know about the instructions on the category page. I've replied more fully at Category talk:Australian women novelists#Contradiction. Graham87 07:45, 12 May 2018 (UTC)
- Thanks - I think we are all good then. Aoziwe (talk) 07:50, 12 May 2018 (UTC)

Thank you very much
editThe RfC discussion to eliminate portals was closed May 12, with the statement "There exists a strong consensus against deleting or even deprecating portals at this time." This was made possible because you and others came to the rescue. Thank you for speaking up.
By the way, the current issue of the Signpost features an article with interviews about the RfC and the Portals WikiProject.
I'd also like to let you know that the Portals WikiProject is working hard to make sure your support of portals was not in vain. Toward that end, we have been working diligently to innovate portals, while building, updating, upgrading, and maintaining them. The project has grown to 80 members so far, and has become a beehive of activity.
Our two main goals at this time are to automate portals (in terms of refreshing, rotating, and selecting content), and to develop a one-page model in order to make obsolete and eliminate most of the 150,000 subpages from the portal namespace by migrating their functions to the portal base pages, using technologies such as selective transclusion. Please feel free to join in on any of the many threads of development at the WikiProject's talk page, or just stop by to see how we are doing. If you have any questions about portals or portal development, that is the best place to ask them.
If you would like to keep abreast of developments on portals, keep in mind that the project's members receive updates on their talk pages. The updates are also posted here, for your convenience.
Again, we can't thank you enough for your support of portals, and we hope to make you proud of your decision. Sincerely, — The Transhumanist 10:17, 25 May 2018 (UTC)
P.S.: if you reply to this message, please {{ping}} me. Thank you. -TT
Hi Can you give Murders of Margaret and Seana Tapp a proof-read/grammar check, please? Paul Benjamin Austin (talk) 12:34, 14 September 2018 (UTC)
- Paul Benjamin Austin. I am not sure that the section title of Biography is a good one at all in this type of article. May I suggest some sections and titles along the lines of Assault and Murder, Investigation, Prosecution, Outcome might be better ? See, only for example, Karmein Chan. Personally I do not like semicolons (there is one in the current lead). The article is very short and I would probably move some of the lead into the suggested sections. But it does appear to be a "solid" stub with appropriate referencing. I have not listened to the sky news audio/video but do they actually say the name is mispronounced ? If they are mispronouncing it then unless you have another reference to that effect it would appear to be WP:OR. Hope I have helped. Aoziwe (talk) 14:20, 14 September 2018 (UTC)
- Thank you. Yeah in the Sky News segment the presenter mispronounces Seana's name but the person she's interviewing pronounces it correctly. Paul Benjamin Austin (talk) 03:56, 15 September 2018 (UTC)
Pipe bands
editHi! If you have any interest at all in pipe bands then the articles on Western Australia Police Pipe Band and Victoria Police Pipe Band could do with some love. The Victoria Police band article is one that I'd eventually like to get to GA - it's the story of a band from Down Under that raised the bar in Grade 1 to new levels, won the Worlds, and then at the height of their powers had their funding withdrawn due to politics. best, Ostrichyearning3 (talk) 22:53, 13 November 2018 (UTC)
- Thanks Ostrichyearning3 for the invitation, but very sorry I will have to decline at this time. I would be lucky to know which end of bag pipe to blow into! I dabble in AfD and do try to research my comments but that is about it in this context. If you want a second opinion from an outsider at any time though, I would be happy to assist if I can. Aoziwe (talk) 22:59, 13 November 2018 (UTC)
If you are keen on that sort of thing, then you will love this site which has an (admittedly incomplete) collection of historical maps for counties, parishes, etc for Qld. The links take you to CSV files which contain links to the zillions of maps. And all of it (CSVs and PDFs) are CC-BY so can be uploaded to Commons. I link (rather than upload) their town map series when I am writing an article about a Qld town (I don't upload because they are useless at thumbnail resolution). Hours of viewing pleasure to be had there! Kerry (talk) 01:04, 27 November 2018 (UTC)

List of Fellows of the Australian Institute of Company Directors moved to draftspace
editAn article you recently created, List of Fellows of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:
" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Once independent, reliable source (no home page, official web site, user generated site, etc) sources are included then please submit the draft page for review. Thank you. iconic and horrible sweet
editAn impressive piece of research in an AfD I looked at and gave up. I got some of the way to establishing notability, the best I could do was show the well known authors who use 'choo choo bar' for its nostalgic associations. It is was a near certainty that notability could be established, the query by someone reading a Robert Drewe novel 'what is a Choo Choo Bar?' has a factual answer. A good result I think, regards, cygnis insignis 14:29, 6 April 2019 (UTC)

WikiProjects
editJust as a comment - I wouldn't set up WikiProject 2019–20 Australian bushfire season in that form. I'd suggest you're better off creating it as a taskforce of WP Australia - and I'd make it a general "bushfire" taskforce rather than tie it to a specific season. General is almost always better with WPs and their taskforces - not least because they're a significant amount of work to set up, and not tying it to a year means that you can reuse it next time.Le Deluge (talk) 14:05, 5 January 2020 (UTC)

Bushfire season lead
editI am posting this here becasuse I do not want to "distract" people at this time if it can be avoided.
I personally do not have a problem with the "name" of the article being bolded. This is indeed fairly standard practice. I also agree with others that the opening wording in 2019-20 was redundant and awkward and clumsy.
But my view is that the current wording in all the articles is rather slapdash. A "good" or "feature" article will properly define what the 2019-20 bushfire season is. For example, the lead for 2019-20 should start something (roughly) like:
The 2019-20 bushfire season nominally commenced in NSW on 1 October 2019 and will close on 31 March 2020[2]. In NSW it was opened on 1 September 2019 in many LGAs due to exceptional local conditions[3], and ... and commenced in VIC on ... WA ... The first serious[alerts/warnings issued] fires ignited on ...
I suggest when the dust(ash) settles a bit we come back and fix them.
In the mean time there is plenty of other content to worry about.

Rangasyd. As you might have seen I think I have come with a compromise for the time being. See the discussion at Talk:2019–20 Australian bushfire season#The introduction doesn't convey article information efficiently and clearly. Regards. Aoziwe (talk) 09:03, 21 January 2020 (UTC)
- It may end up being bolded after all !? Aoziwe (talk) 11:14, 21 January 2020 (UTC)
- Actually, I tend to disagree with the compromise. I think we're trying to jam WP:NOTNEWS content into an article that has a much broader focus. In my view the article needs to cover the entire season, whatever that period is as defined in the lead, in a very abridged format to the existing article. And then we create a seperate article that covers 2019-2020 Australian summer bushfires (or replace summer with an appropriate term). This latter article would be something like the 2013 New South Wales bushfires, Black Saturday bushfires, etc. I mean, are the fires in Western Australia linked to those in NSW/Victoria? Are those in Queensland linked to those in Tasmania? And are those in South Australia linked to those in the Northern Territory? If they are, we need evidence to say so. Rangasyd (talk) 11:22, 21 January 2020 (UTC)
- Actually you have a very valid point. Can I ask you to "mainstream" the above and raise it at Wikipedia:Australian Wikipedians' notice board#Fires, redux. In the mean time would you be okay with my restructure as a stop gap? Aoziwe (talk) 11:31, 21 January 2020 (UTC)

- It was not clear to me that two companies were in fact separate. But as you have since explained, they shared components under previous structures, so this part of their mutual histories needs to be rewritten to properly explain such. Aoziwe (talk) 12:10, 30 January 2020 (UTC)

- Scott Davis. No problem at all. I am not convinced that it is notable in its own right, but always felt it was a likely search term hence my intention to redirect it to more content in BAE systems, etc. However, I will not be taking it to AfD either. I am all for keeping content if it is half reasonably encyclopedic ... Aoziwe (talk) 11:11, 12 February 2020 (UTC)

indenting to clarify who is responding to what...
editYou probably know it is important to indent as per our long standing conventions, if later third parties are going to have a fair chance to understand the positions of both sides. And you probably usually follow those conventions. I refactored one of my comments, and your reply, where you didn't follow those conventions.
I've tried to read discussions where someone interspersed comments in the middle of an earlier comment, and no one restored the normal indenting before additional comments were added, following up on the interspersed comments.
Wow, were those discussions a mess. I ended up paging through some of those discussion, one revision at a time. And, every single time I did so, it turned out that the commenter whose comment got fragmented always made a lot more sense when you read their comment as they had written it.
In discussions were multiple contributors start following up to comments like yours, that broke up an earlier guys comment, it makes that original guy look incoherent - because the later fragments don't make sense without the first portion of their comment.
It makes the original guy look like he or she doesn't even know how to sign their incoherent fragmentary comments. Of course they did sign their comment, at the end, where they were supposed to sign it.
In this particular case, your interspersing your followup comment in the middle of my comment makes it look like I don't even know that my comments are supposed to be indented. Geo Swan (talk) 04:51, 14 April 2020 (UTC)
- Yep sorry. Note that your use of "<p>"s instead of ":"s did not help. But, point taken. Aoziwe (talk) 15:59, 14 April 2020 (UTC)
Law enforcement agency infobox
editHello Aoziwe, I am going through the Template:Infobox law enforcement agency code and the parameters. I am trying to understand the 'General nature' combinations data29. (3) If |local=
and |police=
are both yes. It displays "Local civilian police" and "Local civilian agency" . If only |police=
is yes it displays "Civilian police". If only |local=
is yes it displays "Local civilian agency". The IF function should be |local=
and |police=
both yes display "Local civilian police"?
What exactly is a "Local civilian agency" - when would this description display in General nature? The infobox documentation description for |local=
is "local or territorial agency for the type of services provided" and wikilinks to local at the law enforcement agency article. The article has "A LEA which has a wide range of powers but whose ability is restricted geographically, typically to an area which is only part of a country, is typically referred to as local police or territorial police." List of law enforcement agencies in the United Kingdom defines "Territorial police forces ... policing.... cover a police area (a particular region)". Which seems to me to be describing a "Local civilian police".
|local=
is also used at (4) {{{{#if:{{{military|}}}{{{provost|}}}{{{gendarmerie|}}}||{{#if:{{{local|}}}|Local civilian agency}}}}.
Rehman rewrote the code in 2018 incorporating the main into the LEA infobox code deleting Infobox law enforcement agency/main. There is the old 2009 User:Pee Tern/Sandbox/Template/Infobox Law enforcement agency/main. In the main, for General nature there was a |agencyclass=
parameter with SWITCH function options of corrections, probation, regulation and intelligence. The infobox code had |agencyclass=
= enforcement. |agencyclass=
could be removed from the current code? as corrections ... intelligence were never used in the LEA infobox. I think you were considering creating a specific infobox for corrections and probation but this is the first I time I have seen regulation or intelligence. Regards, --Melbguy05 (talk) 12:00, 7 May 2020 (UTC)
- Melbguy05:
- That was 10+ year ago! But I think I can remember what is was supposed to do at the time. I have not kept up with what has happened to the template since then. (And it was a different wikilife.) If memory serves me correctly, local is meant to be exactly what on face value it means, ie, some level of constrained jurisdiction as compared to multi-regional / nation wide / international. The other(?) part of your question: Some LEAs do not call themselves "police", and they are "civilian" as distinct from "military", so as to their general nature, they a "local civilian agency", as distinct from a local military agency, or local [town] police, or military police, etc. Has this helped? Aoziwe (talk) 11:49, 11 May 2020 (UTC)
- Your question at the teahouse. Sad that you got no replies there or in a some other places you also tried. It has been a while, but if you have questions, and if I am able to help, I would be happy to try to. Aoziwe (talk) 11:49, 11 May 2020 (UTC)
- re "agency class". Apart from wanting to also cover the other classes of agency, sorry, but I cannot remember what I had intended. Aoziwe (talk) 11:52, 11 May 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks for getting back to me Aoziwe. Yes, it was a while ago when you wrote it. I've never seen the term "local civilian agency" (LCA) used before to describe a LEA in any published source that I can remember. Did you have a reference for LCA? What is an example of a LCA? If there is a "local civilian agency" is there a separate "civilian agency"? Do you mean a law enforcement agency comprised of unsworn officers (may not carry a firearm/baton/spray/handcuffs, may not have powers of arrest, no academy they had to graduate to enter, etc.. more akin to public service/civil service than police force which are a descendant from the military) for example tax, customs, fisheries.
|police=
displays "Civilian police".|provost=
displays "Military provost".|gendarmerie=
displays "Gendarmerie".|military=
displays "Military police".|local=
displays "Local civilian agency". Selecting|police=
and|local=
displays "Local civilian police" and "Local civilian agency". Is there a need to include 'Civilian' for|police=
with "Civilian police" as it not going to be confused with provost, gendarmerie or military police if it only displays police. If that was changed and|police=
and|local=
was selected it could "Local police".thanks--Melbguy05 (talk) 18:15, 20 June 2020 (UTC)- Melbguy05. Sorry. have had very little wiki time for some time. "LCA" is not a specific term. It is just descriptive language to distinguish them for other types of agency. As to your other questions, sorry, but over to you. Please feel wikily free to revise and edit as you see fit. Regards. Aoziwe (talk) 12:07, 21 October 2020 (UTC)
Thanks for the reply regarding "LCA". I have another question regarding the parameter |international=
. Not sure how you intended the code would be used. If you look at Interpol there is a label for 'International agency' which is blank and a separate label 'Countries' which describes the number of countries. In the template code, label17 could use data18 instead and data17 and label18 be removed. That way there would only be a label 'International agency' and it will list countries.
Similar question for |multinational=
. If you look at International Monitoring Team there is a label 'Multinational agency' with a country and a separate label 'Nationalities of personnel' that lists the countries. In the template code, label37 could use data38 instead and data37 and label38 be removed. That way there would only be a label 'Multinational agency' and it will countries.--Melbguy05 (talk) 10:20, 11 December 2020 (UTC)
