Team's Schedules
editHey there. Could you help me with this this schedule? I cant get it to look like this one ~Richmond96 t • c 03:14, 2 December 2008 (UTC)
Infobox years
editSince when to we add a link to the year(s) a player was with a team? Especially when he was with multiple teams in the same season (see you last edit to Marc Magro)? Crash Underride 17:26, 6 December 2008 (UTC)
- It was a compromise with User:2008Olympian.►Chris NelsonHolla! 21:14, 6 December 2008 (UTC)
- Then shouldn't it have been told to everyone in the NFL project? Crash Underride 20:37, 7 December 2008 (UTC)
- Well there was a consensus for the retired infobox already, and I'm one of the only ones that really makes such edits.►Chris NelsonHolla! 01:22, 8 December 2008 (UTC)
MLB 2K9
editYour source for MLB 2K9 being released in March is NOT RELIABLE, NOR CONFIRMED. 2K sports HAS NOT said when it will be released rather than "early 2009".
This source is estimating March purely on the basis of past releases. This is unreliable because it is not based on any facts and due to problems with production the game could easily (as has in the past) be pushed back or even pushed forward into feb. Jwjkp (talk) 18:31, 6 December 2008 (UTC)
I did verify, with 2Ksports site. No release date other than early 2009 has been announced. Any other claim is PURE speculation. Jwjkp (talk) 21:32, 6 December 2008 (UTC)
- Sorry, that's not the way the encyclopedia works. It can be verified by a source, it doesn't have to come from 2K.►Chris NelsonHolla! 21:33, 6 December 2008 (UTC)
- Note to Chris: March 1, 2009 is a Sunday. Let me know how many games are being released on a Sunday. March 1 is the beginning of the Q1 2009 on the fiscal calender. JAF1970 (talk) 19:07, 9 December 2008 (UTC)
- Oh, by the way, it now says March 2009. JAF1970 (talk) 19:12, 9 December 2008 (UTC)

Regarding reversions[1] made on December 6 2008 to Major League Baseball 2K9
editHey what source do you have saying that he's still on the Chiefs roster because www.kcchiefs.com doesn't list him on the roster and I doubt that their wrong.--Iamawesome800 23:14, 6 December 2008 (UTC)
- Nevermind got my source from Pats1.--Iamawesome800 00:51, 7 December 2008 (UTC)
Truce!
editDuring my own lockout, I've thinking of a way we could settle this once and for all. As you know, Pats1 is the exclusive editor of the New England Patriots articles, while Doctorindy is pretty much the head captain of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers articles. How about you become the exclusive person who types the game summaries for your Miami Dolphins. I'll just stay away from those articles.
-PLEASE accept this truce, Alakazam
Parmele, Aromashodu etc.
editWhere did you see these guys were signed to active rosters and where did you see that guys such as Alex Lewis were placed on IR?--Iamawesome800 00:24, 9 December 2008 (UTC)
- Lewis and Aromashodu I saw on Rotoworld (the Lions website has the Lewis/Bing news and the Washington Post had the Aromashodu news) and actually, the Parmele news I got from him directly. Doesn't technically pass WP:VERIFY but oh well haha.►Chris NelsonHolla! 00:32, 9 December 2008 (UTC)
- Okay thanks!--Iamawesome800 00:50, 9 December 2008 (UTC)
Injury settlements
editWell, I guess it depends on the case. If a player is injured and a team releases him, then they are prone to a grievance filing by the NFLPA. Therefore teams will put players on IR when they really would like to just release him (Jason Webster is a good example). At some point, the team and the player will reach an injury settlement, which in some cases will pay the player what he would have made if he had stayed on IR until his injury was healed, or other times, they will set the player free once he is healthy; whether the latter is technically considered an injury settlement, I am not sure. Keep in mind there are also split contracts, where a player will only earn part of his salary if he goes on IR. Pats1 T/C 20:47, 11 December 2008 (UTC)
- Well PFW changes their style all the time; they did placed on waivers for PS deletions for a few weeks earlier this season, and they've started to use the waived/injured format for their IR deletions now. You just have to follow the general idea. Pats1 T/C 21:03, 11 December 2008 (UTC)
Replyin'!
editJust so I don't get blocked again from editing. I read the comments that both U and User:Pats1 left. Alright, the football positions abbreviations will be gone. From now on, it'll be "quarterback", "running back", "tight end", etc. Also, don't be hatin' on me man. I know that my writing OFFENDS you and everything, but at least THIS time, I looked at my comments page. If you could tell our Patriot fan that I read his comments along with yours, then I'll know that he understand.

Category:African American blah blah blah
editI'm confused, didn;t you also think it was racist-based? From the looks of your comments on that category's discussion page, you use to. Has something changed? I still feel it is just as ludicrious as a Category:Caucasian sportspeople. Jwalte04 (talk) 19:42, 13 December 2008 (UTC)
- And I did look up racism. "Racism, by its simplest definition, is the belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits". Isn't that what is going on with that category? Jwalte04 (talk) 19:44, 13 December 2008 (UTC)
- No, I just think it's kind of pointless. Racism is a belief in an inherent superiority in one race over another. There is nothing about a race-based category existing that means anyone thinks one race is superior to another. It seems you need to read the definition again until it sinks in.►Chris NelsonHolla! 19:58, 13 December 2008 (UTC)

Template:CollegePrimaryColor
editCould you add TCU's colors (hex codes 660099 and FFFFFF) to Template:CollegePrimaryColor and Template:CollegeSecondaryColor, respectively? I tried to do this myself but it didn't turn out right. I would like to add the infobox you created to the Jerry Hughes article. Thanks in advance. BlueAg09 (Talk) 05:22, 16 December 2008 (UTC)
- Should work now. Just make sure the team is written TCU Horned Frogs.►Chris NelsonHolla! 06:35, 16 December 2008 (UTC)
Proposed deletion of Malik Jackson
editA proposed deletion template has been added to the article Malik Jackson, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:
- Non-notable per WP:ATHLETE. Second team all-conference is not sufficient for college awards. He did not make the Raiders roster or appear in a regular season game, so he does not meet the professional requirements.
All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Zach Thomas
editWhat would you think of using a cropped version of this as the main image for the Zach Thomas article? →Wordbuilder (talk) 16:06, 21 December 2008 (UTC)
- No need, I have another Zach Thomas one by himself. That one is good because it's with his agent.►Chris NelsonHolla! 16:10, 21 December 2008 (UTC)
- Beautiful. Those really enhance the article. Thanks! →Wordbuilder (talk) 01:32, 22 December 2008 (UTC)
Dolphins at Chiefs
editI think you might enjoy some of these. I took them today and damn near froze my ass off. I have more, but the sun really ruined most of them. Good luck in the playoffs if they make it, we're fortunate here in KC to get a new GM soon and hopefully we'll have a turnaround like the Phins soon. conman33 (. . .talk) 23:50, 21 December 2008 (UTC)
- Those are pretty sweet. It was a tough game today, you could tell the cold weather hurt the defenses' ability to pursue, tackle, wrap-up, etc.►Chris NelsonHolla! 00:53, 22 December 2008 (UTC)
Notability of Javier Arenas (American football)
editA tag has been placed on Javier Arenas (American football) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article, which appears to be about a real person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable. If this is the first page that you have created, then you should read the guide to writing your first article.
If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.
For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Iamawesome800 20:48, 22 December 2008 (UTC)
- I removed the tag. Arenas is a notable college athlete, as he's already a two-time All-SEC selection through his sophomore year and is one of the top returners in the nation. It has nothing to do with being Gilbert Arenas' cousin.►Chris NelsonHolla! 21:21, 22 December 2008 (UTC)
Colors to infobox
editWhats up Chris, can you put the Liberty Flames colors to the College player infobox, I have no idea how to.--Yankees10 00:32, 24 December 2008 (UTC)
- No problem.►Chris NelsonHolla! 00:33, 24 December 2008 (UTC)
- Okay done. I wasn't able to use their red color for the text because it's really hard on the eyes with the blue background (same problem that arises with the Texans) so I had to go with the white. Is that alright?►Chris NelsonHolla! 00:37, 24 December 2008 (UTC)

editHey I noticed you were editing a new page I created, and I was wondering if I did a better job at creating than I did the last time and if you have any tips for me on how to make the pages related to sports that I create better, let me know. Thanks.--Iamawesome800 18:01, 24 December 2008 (UTC)
- It looked fine to me. Really, just look at the diffs of my edits after you've edited a player in a recent transaction (like this to see what I'm changing. If we can both do everything the same way we can save the other some time.►Chris NelsonHolla! 18:05, 24 December 2008 (UTC)
- Yeah sure I can definetely start doing all of that. And I don't know if you noticed but I made the changes like this: 2008, to all of the players on the Giants roster, so I started doing that, but with the edits you showed above I must of forgotten to make those changes. But I'll make sure I'll make them from now on.--Iamawesome800 18:16, 24 December 2008 (UTC)

Albert Johnson III
editHi Chris, hope you're enjoying a nice Christmas. I wish that you would put in an explanation in the move summary. What was your thinking in http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Albert_Johnson_(gridiron_football)&diff=260109409&oldid=236540201 ? I see that there is an Albert Johnson soccer player and that Albert Johnson III is notable for both CFL and NFL so gridiron makes some sense. He was always referred to as Albert Johnson III though in Canada. Was that different when he played in the States? Thanks, DoubleBlue (talk) 06:42, 26 December 2008 (UTC)
- P.S. You may want to check out and add your ideas on WP:Naming conventions (sportspeople), where a proposal is being drafted to clarify and explicate the general biography naming conventions with regards to sportspeople. DoubleBlue (talk) 06:45, 26 December 2008 (UTC)
- Sorry I didn't know the usage of III with him was widespread in Canada. In the NFL, as far as I can tell, it was just Albert Johnson. That's why I ditched the III (because I didn't think it was his common name) and added (gridiron football) since he played in multiple leagues.►Chris NelsonHolla! 11:23, 26 December 2008 (UTC)
- No problem. Yes, I don't think he was ever called simply Albert Johnson (http://news.google.ca/archivesearch?q=%22Albert+Johnson+III%22 ) but if he is in the States, then I don't have a problem with moving him, though, of course, I prefer (gridiron player). Cheers! DoubleBlue (talk) 16:53, 26 December 2008 (UTC)
- Actually, I may change my mind. He only played in five NFL games? He's not really that notable then in US football is he? And he does appear to still use III. DoubleBlue (talk) 17:11, 26 December 2008 (UTC)

More colors
editCan you add Arizona Wildcats colors to the college infobox--Yankees10 18:53, 26 December 2008 (UTC)
- Will do. That'll be another one where the blue is too dark to go with the red though, so it'll have to be navy and white.►Chris NelsonHolla! 19:31, 26 December 2008 (UTC)
What did I say?
editAnd they did two games better! Congrats...but what's this with Parcells skipping town already? Pats1 T/C 02:10, 29 December 2008 (UTC)

Playoff Finish and seeding, 2008 Dolphins Season
editThe "Playoff Finish" heading in the infobox indicates how far the team finished in the playoffs. Playoff Seeding is NOT an indicator of a team's Playoff Finish. Look at the other 2008 NFL playoff teams pages and you can see that seeding position is NOT present in the "Playoff Finish" area. Richiekim (talk) 19:37, 29 December 2008 (UTC)
- No harm in adding the most recent info as long as it still says TBD. Calm down.►Chris NelsonHolla! 19:43, 29 December 2008 (UTC)
Reply
editYeah I can definetely try and do all of those suggestions, and if I forget one just let me know. Thanks.--Iamawesome800 20:24, 29 December 2008 (UTC)
- And there's a page that I created earlier this month, that as of now only I have edited (which surprises me) and I've implemented all your suggestions into it, so could you tell me how I did on it.--Iamawesome800 20:58, 29 December 2008 (UTC)
- Looks solid. My comments:
- I tend to avoid using specifics when it comes to Safety or Linebacker. I prefer to do just Safety or Linebacker rather than go into the whole free/strong or inside/outside thing. Same goes for intro paragraphs.
- Take out the world currently (I only used it when a guy is a free agent, though I think I'm gonna ditch it completely)
- I also try to keep recent events out of intros (the sentence about being re-signed on Dec. 24 and stuff). If you want to add stuff like that, you should just create a Professional career section and Arizona Cardinals subsection.
- Add "Arizona" to link name
- Per the style of Wiki, Only the first word in a section title is capitalized (External links, not External Links)
- I don't know if there is a standard on this, but I keep stub templates at the very bottom to keep them out of the way of the article.
I did some other stuff, you can see my full edit and all the changes I made in this diff.►Chris NelsonHolla! 21:15, 29 December 2008 (UTC)
- Hey, all non-practice squad contracts expire the day after the Super Bowl right?--GiantsRule 00:15, 30 December 2008 (UTC)
- Do any of the players have the lifetime templates, cause it feels like I have to add it to every single one of the pages.--GiantsRule 21:42, 30 December 2008 (UTC)
- No, most do not. Most articles still have the DEFAULTSORT template and therefore need the birth year and living people categories written out manually.►Chris NelsonHolla! 21:45, 30 December 2008 (UTC)
- Hey where do you find the info on who's a URFA, RFA or ERFA?--GiantsRule 02:55, 31 December 2008 (UTC)
- Pats1 just looks at who has expiring contracts this season. He can tell who is a UFA, RFA or ERFA based on how many accrued season each guy has. ERFAs are guys with 0-2 accrued seasons. RFAs have 3, UFAs have 4 or more. Pats1 can tell you more.►Chris NelsonHolla! 03:24, 31 December 2008 (UTC)
- Yep, that's pretty much it. I compare NFLPA.org's Active Player search for 2009 with the roster, and pick out the discrepancies. Then I sort them by how many accrued seasons (6 games on a 53-man roster, IR, PUP, etc. but not NFI, Susp., DNR, etc. = 1 accrued season) they have - UFAs are 4+, RFAs are 3, and ERFAs are 0-2 - but I won't go into the details of each right now. I determine how many accrued seasons they have by checking their NFL.com profiles (the experience number they have there is usually, but not always accurate), specifically their "G" column, which is games on the active roster. Then I check their game logs to verify any cases where it's not immediately apparent. Then I might check a website bio or KFFL to make sure I'm right with the accrued seasons number. But I can tell you that my free agents lists won't be 100% accurate (they are more accurate than last year because I'm not relying on NFL.com experience numbers anymore) because players will have voidable years that won't show up in NFLPA's database. Once those players (i.e. Dallas Clark last year) void their contracts - which could happen sometime in February - they become free agents. Pats1 T/C 03:37, 31 December 2008 (UTC)
- G isn't games on the active roster, it's games in which they appeared. Any player that was on an active roster will have a team/year row on their NFL.com profile. Any player that does not was not on an active roster. For example, Brian De La Puente had an active roster stint with KC this year, hence the 2008 Kansas City Chiefs row, but did not appear in a game, hence the 0 for G. Meanwhile, Edwin Harrison had no active roster stint this year and thus has no 2008 Kansas City Chiefs row in his profile.►Chris NelsonHolla! 03:52, 31 December 2008 (UTC)
- Right, I know that. I don't know why I said that, and I don't use it that way. The only way to determine games on active roster is by looking at the game log; if there is a 1 for the G column, that means the player was active, if there was a 0, that means he was inactive. That's what I meant. The G column in his career stats is games he was active for. Pats1 T/C 04:04, 31 December 2008 (UTC)
Congrats
editHey man, congrats on the Dolphins winning the AFC East. Only thing better is the fact that they kept the Patriots out. Must've been tough with what happened last season. Believe me, as a Los Angeles Kings season-ticket holder, I know what it's like to be a fan of a team that... well, utterly sucks.
I'm pulling for the Giants to win the Super Bowl, but good luck in the playoffs. Ksy92003 (talk) 22:30, 29 December 2008 (UTC)
