William Henry Harrison Seeley
editUnder the B-class criteria, the article needs two more citations at the end of "The straits separated the islands of Honshū and Kyūshū, providing a passage between the Seto Inland Sea and the Sea of Japan" and "Despite retaliatory actions from the treaty partners, another attack occurred in July 1864, when rebels fired upon the US steamer Monitor." I will wait rather than immediately assess the article as C-class. I realize that the first sentence is probably verified in the articles but the criteria require a citation at the end of each paragraph for facts stated after the previous citation. If you can provide citations for the two sentences, I will assess the article as B-class. Good work. Thanks. Donner60 (talk) 05:28, 15 January 2024 (UTC)
I have put a brief message on the request for assessment page. If someone thinks this is a completed assessment and deletes it, please relist it if you add the two citations or ping me and I will assess it as B class. If you wish to leave it as is, let me know and I will rate it C. Thanks. Donner60 (talk) 07:38, 15 January 2024 (UTC)
- @Donner60 I've now clarified where I mentioned the retaliatory attacks, they were the retaliatory attacks performed by the US and French for the attacks on their shipping - that was my mistake, I misinterpreted the source. As for the SS Monitor, I was quite lucky to find a source for it from a newspaper of the time which went into far more detail. Hopefully this'll sort the need for citations. CommissarDoggoTalk? 10:27, 15 January 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks. Good work. Now rated B class. Donner60 (talk) 23:33, 15 January 2024 (UTC)
- Hello,
- can you explain to me what you mean by "poor source citations" because I chose the correct citations, you can read that on the citations I post.
- Thanks. Jikaj214na (talk) 19:55, 2 June 2024 (UTC)

- I second this! I was astonished to see how much you expanded that article over the past 24 hours. Of course, I expected some expansion but I never thought of a huge expansion! It's definitely one of the quickest and biggest expansions I've seen. I appreciate your time to expand this article; I'm impressed and grateful you've completed this article in Vami's honor. Thanks, ~ Tails Wx (🐾, me!) 21:24, 19 February 2024 (UTC)
- I'm honestly pretty surprised at how much I expanded it as well, especially in just 24 hours. I'm also really glad to have had @Epicgenius helping, everyone else helping out with Americanising everything and yourself for archiving everything and reviewing the page so quickly. Thanks @Queen of Hearts as well for doing the honours of moving it to mainspace, couldn't think of anyone else that I'd rather to do it.
- It's been a long 24 hours, but more than well worth it for Vami. With those archives it'll hopefully live on forever in their memory. CommissarDoggoTalk? 21:34, 19 February 2024 (UTC)
Willy's Chocolate Experience
editThanks for all your work on the article! The new Connell interview is a great insight into what went down, but I do think it's better used to flesh out the timeline of events, than to run as a duplicated sidebar to it. The other stuff he was saying was colourful but I'm not sure it added that much to the article, the basic wonderland/warehouse disjunct is already very vivid, I think, without Connell repeating his perspective on it.
Let me know if you think I'm pushing back too much on this! Belbury (talk) 19:27, 2 March 2024 (UTC)
- Oh god no, you're fine. I mainly whacked the whole quote in there because I was afraid of getting edit-conflicted if I were to try and link it into the article, which happened either twice or three times earlier today. It looks a lot better without such a long box. CommissarDoggoTalk? 19:31, 2 March 2024 (UTC)
Rube Goldberg page
editHi.
In regard to my minor edits that you reverted, I left what you did in place, but:
The first comma you re-introduced is unnecessary. It separates an independent clause prior to the comma and a dangling phrase after the comma. If the piece after the comma started with "and he took" instead of just "and took", then the comma would be fine.
The second comma you re-introduced is also unnecessary and interrupts the flow of the text. It's after a single two-word prepositional phrase ("In 1911") and is not needed.
In the clause "each of his sons was|were heading off to college", the subject is "each" (singular), not "sons" (plural). So the verb should be "was". The word "sons" is the object of a preposition, and that can never be a subject.
And I changed "antisemitic" to "anti-Semitic" on the recommendation of the Wikipedia editor itself. The word "antisemitic" was underlined in red (as it is now as I'm typing this) with "anti-Semitic" being the recommended change. Venango (talk) 14:19, 4 March 2024 (UTC)
- I actually had to go back quickly and check what I did, as this was around 5 months ago. Looking back on the reversion, it seems rather hasty, I doubt I would've made the same reversion nowadays and have made some changes based on that. Feel free to check them.
- As for the last bit, while it does get underlined by spellcheck, looking at the article for antisemitism, antisemitic is widely used across the page without a hyphen; when "anti-Semitic" is used, it's either in quotes or as part of a citation. CommissarDoggoTalk? 14:34, 4 March 2024 (UTC)

Video games and electronic lit
editHi, Thank you for your help in the Tearoom. I see you are interested in videogames, and I wondered if you might extend that interest to electronic literature. Some of our works are based on or told through video games, so it is a "next door" field. We have a new project page at Wikipedia:WikiProject Electronic literature. I confess, I failed at retirement and have two fullish time gigs now so I have not devoted myself as much as I could to learning how Wikipedia works...

- Are you looking for someone to look through it or to improve it? CommissarDoggoTalk? 08:13, 23 April 2024 (UTC)

Help
editHey! Thanks for helping me! Just one more question for you haha. To join CVU is it just free to join by changing your name? I read about trainings but I dont understand. Also like on your profile, can we just add medals and about us? GamrrOverDue (talk) 19:46, 28 April 2024 (UTC)
- @GamrrOverDue To your first question, you have two entries to the Counter-Vandalism Unit.
- One way is to go through the Counter-Vandalism Academy, which will teach you how to perform counter-vandalism work in a structured and supported manner. You'll be assisted by a mentor to learn the various processes relating to counter-vandalism, common tools, common essays/policies and common actions you may have to take.
- The other way is the hard way which I personally did, learning it all by yourself, getting stuck in and eventually deciding "well I already know all or most of what I need to, I guess I'm in". To my knowledge, there is no need to go through the Academy to join the CVU.
- As for your second question, yes you can. See WP:USERPAGE, WP:UPDG, WP:USERBOX, WP:AWARDS and WP:SERVICEAWARDS. CommissarDoggoTalk? 19:53, 28 April 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you so so so soo so much!!!!! You are a wonderful help, have a great day! Did you just join CVU however, like just opted in without saying anything or did you need to apply? GamrrOverDue (talk) 20:01, 28 April 2024 (UTC)

- I just put the userbox onto my userpage, you can find it a bit further down the Counter-Vandalism Unit page. CommissarDoggoTalk? 20:06, 28 April 2024 (UTC)

editHey, CD, I know you're trying to be helpful, but please don't give advice at Teahouse unless you understand the policy in question. This advice is not only incorrect, it misinforms new editors in a way that might make them afraid to keep reverting BLP violations until an admin shows up. Removing the addition of BLP violations is one of the few things we do want people to edit-war over, and we'd much rather they overcorrected than undercorrected.
Good advice would have been to tell Mmccaea to next time go to wp:blpn and ask for admin help when faced with this situation, but it's absolutely not correct that they shouldn't continue to revert something they honestly believe is a BLP violation until that help shows up. - No worries - I was sad too, it looks like you guys have a great draft/article taking shape. I wish I could help but I also don't speak Swedish. I hope you feel up to completing it on your own, it's a very interesting topic! StartGrammarTime (talk) 04:24, 10 July 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks, I'm glad they brought it up on the Teahouse actually. It was really interesting to research and the whole landslide thing is definitely out of my editing comfort zone.
- I'm more than happy to finish it on my own, I'm just hoping more information comes out at some point regarding the investigation. It'd be nice to see where the story goes as it's still very much ongoing. CommissarDoggoTalk? 10:10, 10 July 2024 (UTC)

Quick note on the Teahouse
editHey! Just in my opinion, the Teahouse might not be the best venue to interrogate or discuss user conduct issues in the future. That kind of discussion is probably better suited for the user's talk page or (if really necessary) WP:ANI. Not to say I don't agree with your concern, but I just don't think similar discussions should happen in the future at the Teahouse. Thanks for all you do, and happy editing! Bsoyka (t • c • g) 16:59, 1 August 2024 (UTC)
- @Bsoyka Nah, you're right, that's on me. I'm not a fan of seeing people try to pull the wool as it were, but I definitely should've taken it to their userpage to discuss that conduct. CommissarDoggoTalk? 17:26, 1 August 2024 (UTC)
- Totally agree with you on the concerns, and thanks for understanding! Bsoyka (t • c • g) 17:51, 1 August 2024 (UTC)

- Hi, what is this about? CommissarDoggoTalk? 17:07, 3 September 2024 (UTC)
- Ok, having looked through your own editing interactions with them, I would advise against jumping to calling people a vandal or telling people to "Get lost". It's at best uncivil and at worse can push people away if they're trying to be constructive. Please try to assume good faith.
- Although I'm glad that you mentioned them out of concern, when it comes to Hamish socks, they have fairly obvious tells and I'm not seeing any of them with this user. Thank you. CommissarDoggoTalk? 17:31, 3 September 2024 (UTC)

I think you requested deletion the same time I turned it into redirect
editoops 4.39.220.106 (talk) 16:28, 17 September 2024 (UTC)
- Definitely did, yeah, no worries. Redirect is the better thing to do in those cases. CommissarDoggoTalk? 16:29, 17 September 2024 (UTC)

Hi there, I see you're not a new page patroller, but please stick to the NPP guidelines when you're looking at recent edits and only tag for deletion once you've given the original editor an hour or so to work on the page. Please also consider if draftification might be appropriate instead of tagging for deletion. -- asilvering (talk) 18:38, 7 November 2024 (UTC)
Smoot-Hawley Tariff Edits
editI recently performed an edit on the Smoot-Hawley Tariffs Act article, removing several paragraphs. But, the edits were restored due to insufficient explanation.
The paragraphs were added on Nov 7 in the wake of the initial effects of the current proposed tariffs and were lengthy and heavily biased in favor of tariffs and contrary to the consensus opinion of the effects of the Smooth-Hawley Act. The nature of the edits suggested that they were added to provide political bias rather than informative content.
Additionally, they were posted by a one-time editor with no username and no other edits in their history. This methodology is suggestive of the bots and agents that have been used to provide misinformatuon in the recent past. 2600:1702:2930:6D10:E95D:D2C8:9C19:48FD (talk) 14:21, 8 November 2024 (UTC)
- The large majority of that section was apparently written on 1 November 2022, with the only additions made on 7 November this year being a couple of words here and there; the entire section is seemingly well cited at first glance, hence my instant concern with the entire section being removed. I will have a closer look at what their specific edit added in terms of difference though.
- As for your third paragraph, I don't mean anything by this at all but I do feel the sudden and inescapable need to point out the irony of you editing through an anonymous IP (with only one edit other than to my talk page) while stating that this is a common attribute of bots and agents of misinformation; I can't disagree, I just thought it was quite funny is all. CommissarDoggoTalk? 14:32, 8 November 2024 (UTC)
- As I'm sure you can see, I've since reverted to the version before the IP editor re-added the content based off of the arguments used by Volunteer Marek in their edits on 3 October this year. CommissarDoggoTalk? 14:41, 8 November 2024 (UTC)
- My apologies, and I do appreciate the irony. I'm obviously new to the whole process and didn't realize that I wasn't logged in. Thank you for your assistance. Reece Aaron (talk) 19:43, 8 November 2024 (UTC)
