It's cool. The megabeat is definitely a Detroit-regional term that is used within the punk scene. You got it, I'll be glad to help. I'll give your activities a once over to get an idea of what you do at the moment. If you want to tell me anything about your wiki-life you can leave me a message. Or you can email it to me. Got to run now, lectures beckon. Regards, SGGH speak! 09:30, 29 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

About me:

I have been an admin since March 2007, and have had a fair taste of conflict, vandalism fighting, username work, notice board, revert wars, BLP, dispute resolution and so on, as well as the grunt work of gnoming, copy editing, tagging, speedy deletion, image copyright work and so on. I also have over 8,000 article edits (over 15,000 total edits) and 4 (soon to be [hopefully] 5 or 6) Featured Articles to my name, and I am the lead coordinator of The Law Enforcement WikiProject as well as a regular writer for The Military History Wikiproject where 3 of my FAs have a home (the fourth being a collective work for the cricket wikiproject.

--SGGH speak! 09:32, 29 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

What I'll do in the mean time is create a subpage of my user page where I'll list things I've noticed that we can talk about. Things I feel you are doing very well, things that you might want to do in the future, things you might need to change, and so on. You can find it at User:SGGH/Administrator Coaching SGGH speak! 12:37, 29 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
Big bunch of ideas there for you. Message me with your thoughts and we can discuss, theres instant messaging open to us aswell if you prefer a more rapid method of communication. SGGH speak! 13:12, 29 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
I've replied to your comments in bold again. Two things strike me straight away, 1) you are very mature able handling constructive advice, that's very good. 2) Don't just focus on the (I'm not going to say negative, more un-positive) comments, remember to take on board the things I said you were doing well too, otherwise you might think it's all bad :) SGGH speak! 10:20, 30 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Deletion of Hybrid Rudiments article

Fine by me. I just created this article to get the hybrid stuff out of the "rudiments" article anyway. IMHO most of what is in there is total crap. BTW, while you are in the process of deleting worthless articles, check out on the ones on Moeller Method, Snare technique, and Open, closed, open. Also, I haven't forgotten our discussion on diddles/drags, I just got back from vaction. Will respond to those soon. Thanks. Brad Halls (talk) 03:24, 17 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Yeah, it's definitely an acquired taste. If you want to play again, try checking out the beginner's spoilers here. For the record, a spoiler in nethack terms normally just gives away strategy and whatnot: there's really no storyline to give away. It's doubtful that anyone has ever beaten the game without some spoiler. --Evan ¤ Seeds 23:25, 17 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Rudiments

edit

I was thinking that it might make more sense to merge all the rudiment stubs into the single rudiment article and try for a featured list than it would to deal with all of them. What do you think? Kakofonous (talk) 21:21, 19 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

That sounds reasonable, but I'd say drum roll should still definitely maintain its own article. You might want to talk about Brad Halls about this, since he's really into Rudimental percussion and all that. --Evan ¤ Seeds 21:49, 19 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Writing for the Signpost

edit

Hello. You expressed interest in writing for the Wikipedia Sign?post (sorry for the delay in responding). I'm sending this message to everyone who commented, so if you have any questions I haven't answered, please feel free to ask me, and I'll try to respond to specific questions.

Essentially, what I'm looking for is writers who can step in and write on subjects that are newsworthy from week-to-week. The content of the stories obviously varies each week depending on what's happening; this is discussed below.

There are three major parts to writing an article:

  1. Choosing a topic
  2. Writing the article
  3. Submitting the article

Part 1: Choosing a topic

edit

As said above, topics will vary from week-to-week. For this week, these particular issues may be newsworthy:

  • Bureaucratship candidacies — There are a lot of bureaucratship candidacies this week, for the first time in about six or seven months. I'm personally covering this one for next week, but this is a good example of what might be newsworthy.
  • Encyclopedia of Life — This encyclopedia of species has been getting some press, and relates somewhat to Wikimedia project Wikispecies.
  • Hidden categories — For those technically inclined, this is a new feature that has some interesting implications.

For more ideas, and for ideas in the future, check the tip-line -- there are usually some good ideas there.

Once you've decided on a topic, make sure to sign up for it in the newsroom, under "Special stories", so that users aren't duplicating each others' work (though multiple writers are certainly free to work together on a story).

Part 2: Writing the article

edit

Now, you've decided on a topic and signed up for it. To write it, create a subpage in your userspace. For my story this week on the bureaucratship candidacies, for example, I'll create it at User:Ral315/Bureaucratship candidacies. The name isn't a big deal, of course -- I'll change it if necessary.

Formatting the story isn't important; for your first article, you should mainly focus on writing a good story, and I'll take care of the formatting when we publish. Try to write it in a newspaper-like tone, avoiding personal comments and opinions in favor of straight-forward facts. The size of an article varies based on what the story is, but a good minimum goal for most stories is two-to-three good paragraphs. Longer articles are even better, so long as they're well-written.

Part 3: Submitting the article

edit

Now, all you have to do is post a link to the article in the newsroom, where you signed up for it earlier. That's it! You're done!

Again, if you have any questions at all, please contact me, and I'll try to respond as soon as possible.

Thanks for your interest in writing for the Signpost. Ral315 (talk) 03:08, 29 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Maynard James Keenan discography

edit

I've worked this back into the article, as it is very redundant of the main discographies, which I should have considered before creating it. WP:Wikiproject Tool update

edit

A few updates in events:

  • Maynard James Keenan has been listed for copy-edit at the WP:LoCE, however, the backlog is quite long. Therefore, if anyone has copy-editing skills, please go over the article. I would do it myself, but I've done quite a bit of work on the article and I am incapable of copy-editing my own work.
  • Maynard James Keenan discography has been worked back into the bio and has been determined to be redundant of the main discographies. It will most likely be deleted this week.
  • Devo Keenan has been created. I think this is a good opportunity for the project to get together and create a DYK entry. The article needs to be expanded and referenced. Hopefully this is possible. I've not yet looked to see how much information is available. Please take time to help with this, if you can. We have four days!!

Thanks to everyone who has helped thus far. The project is still very new, but good progress is being made! LaraLove 04:00, 18 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

How are things going, especially your article writing work? SGGH speak! 21:05, 28 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Uh....not too great, unfortunately. As I believe I told you, I recently started WikiProject Percussion, but it seems to be stagnating. The only fairly active member (and co-founder) is User:Kakofonous, who's actually on wikibreak now. I did get a lot of work done on Rudiment, though. Also, I've been busy this month (getting my Eagle scout!), and my edit count seriously reflects this: only 150 edits compared to 500+ in both jan. and feb. Oh well, life comes before wikipedia. --Evan ¤ Seeds 05:03, 31 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Tap Tap Revenge 2

edit

I notice that you tagged the page Tap Tap Revenge 2 for speedy deletion with the reason "{{db-a7}}". While that's a valid reason for speedy deletion in general, this page does not qualify for speedy deletion under that criterion because software is explicitly not allowed under A7. If you still want the page to be deleted, please consider tagging it with a speedy deletion template which does apply, redirecting it to another page, or using the WP:AFD process. Thanks! (Note that I've already redirected it to Tap Tap Revenge) Dori (TalkContribs) 02:20, 4 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

And as Phil Bridger (talk) Commented :
"Has anyone checked out the Persian language references and links in the article? Or looked for any other Persian sources? If not then we can't claim that this lacks sources.(14:06, 8 March 2009)" (UTC)
Please find someone who knows farsi to check out the Persian language references and links and any other Persian sources.
And some other interesting things:
-Gets <300 Google hits . Is google hits one of the most parameters to delete?may be yes and may be no (-;
-This article is top heavy on self-promotion, see[1].If this is a problem so i can delete the picture (-;
Anyway , thanks your efforts for great wikipedia

Google Hits Question

Hello EvanSeeds,

You added a comment in my deletion page. This article we were discussing was National Ballot Access (now deteled). In our discussion, you mentioned that is had 1,390 Google hits and 0 Google news hits. My question is how would one go about checking google hits? Is it a free service or do you have to pay for it?

Google Hits

edit

Thanks! I didn't know that.

1 more question though:

It says in the upper right corner: Results 1 - 10 of about 372,000 for john doe. (0.32 seconds)

I searched this today. Does this mean john doe got 372,000 google hits for the month of March? Or so far this month? Or how does that work? And what does the "(0.32 seconds)" mean?

Thanks for teaching me --Johnwynnejr (talk) 16:52, 23 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

AfD nomination of Illini Drumline

edit

Mr. Seeds,

I find your position very confusing. It appears you are a wikipedia expert. You deleted the content at Illini Drumline and welcomed me to edit the article. But I cannot edit the article because it's deleted. Catch 22. Yet now you cannot access the content and send me off elsewhere? Are you not an administrator of some sort?

I think it's presumptious to delete an article in an area where you have limited experience without first contacting the main author(s). A note on the discussion page is hardly enough. I don't login to wikipedia but once every 6 months or so, if that.

So could you please send me the article content so I can edit it to meet your standards? And an explanation of your personal standards for notability would be helpful. I'd prefer to handle this by email -- I don't quite follow the wiki discussion and talk board mechanics.

Thanks,

Dale —Preceding unsigned comment added by Hallerbergd (talkcontribs)

No administrator response to undelete request

edit

It appears that the administrator who deleted Illini Drumline on your recommendation was "Aitias". I wrote them a note but I have not gotten any response. Do you have a recommendation for another administrator who might be able to help find the content which was deleted?

I would like to follow your suggestion to edit the article, so that it will meet your standards for notability. Of course, it is difficult to edit it since you deleted it. In the future, you should suggest that an article be edited before deleting it. As you can see, it would save a lot of wasted effort. Hallerbergd (talk) 18:48, 1 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Can you please help me with the undeletion of IlliniDrumline?

edit

Wikipedia guidelines suggest that we all write with patience and professionalism. However, I'm having a tough time with that since you are providing exactly zero help solving a problem that you created. You proposed deleting the content, then recommended I edit it, which is impossible, then sent me searching for an administrator, who doesn't respond, then you say Go find another administrator who cares.

How about you take ownership of your actions and help find the content which you deleted so I can do the editing which you suggested in order to meet your standards for notability?

I guess I would also feel better about this if you were an expert in marching percussion or college drumlines. Are you? Hallerbergd (talk) 01:00, 4 May 2009 (UTC)Reply
